This is brilliant. I've been playing in bands for years but I know exactly where this is coming from. Too many dickhead bands who think they are The Beatles, and too many dickhead promoters who feel entitled to push people around. Welcome to rock and roll, people.
really nothing to fight about.. there are horrible bands and promoters..but the worst is the venues.. they control "venue rental", advertising for there venue and who promotes there.. if anything the bands and promoters should be mad at the venues... remember.. the club has more to lose than anyone at a show...
How does the club have anything to lose? If you pay a rental and no-one shows up, they make just the rental price. If a ton of people show up, they make an average of $15-25 per person in bar and food sales.
That whole scenario is messed, they should be PAYING the bands a set amount to play, they should promote their own clubs and hiring bands who keep people in their seats, not expecting bands to promote. They are entertainment. You need people in your club, PROMOTE IT!
Most of you stupid ass, untalented, can't tune your guitars, don't know scales, sing out of register or way off key, spend 20 minutes warming up because " i gotta get my sound, man" original bands suck so bad these days, your dumbass girlfriends don't even show up at your gigs. THAT'S the problem. All the gear, and no clue.
The whole scenario is screwed. You shouldn't have mutliple bands playing on one show anyways. Bands shouldn't be the promoters, Promoters should be promoting.
The real problem is nobody really wants to hear terrible "original" music. Most bands starting out are awful and should spend more time practicing, instead these "promoters" offer them a chance to get on stage with only 5 songs semi- learned.
Unless you can play 40 songs and do perform 3 sets (IE do an entire gig) don't play out.
@DavidCavanFraser ._. If every band wrote 3 or 4 albums before they played their first show, there would be no local scene. Also, nobody wants to go see 1 band. That's like 40 minutes out of their night instead of 2 or 3 hours with multiple bands.
My argument is there IS no local scene, not like there was 25 years ago (probably before both you and I were born)
LOTS of people come to see one band, IE me. They stay for 3 or 4 hours, because that's a REAL gig, not this 30 minute 5 bands on a bill that make $15 each garbage.
Bands don't need to write 3 or 4 albums before their first show, I wasn't saying that at all, what I'm saying is learn to put on a SHOW 35-40 songs, a mix of covers and originals is best.
Ass-hole promoters that pay the sound and poster people but expect the bands to play on spec, are killing the live music industry. Paying a real band is a cost of doing business, just like the sound and posters. Otherwise bill it as a talent show.....
Don't deal with amateur bands if you are so worried about them drawing.
@auavox524 shit...took the words right from my mouth. i was going to say something along the lines of, "most bands aren't that dickish. ALL promoters ARE that dickish. most bands just don't know how to support one another. ie: leaving the venue after they play while other bands are still playing."
Bands should get paid for their work. Promoters don't do shit. Fuck it.

seriously...
there are other voices you can use,
it might make the story easier to follow
or at least a little more enjoyable
since you can hardly tell who is saying what to who

True ,alot of promoters are shitty, but sadly i see these scenerios quite often.
I do promotions in Ontario, Canada, and work as hard promoting my shows (& bands) ,as the bands do playing- respect is the key!
KronikNoise Promotions- making things right, one show at a time, haha

AHAHAHAHAHAHA this is like a 1/10 chance situation though.
The promoter being an asshole is a 9/10.
Sinkman 1 year ago
@Sinkman: In our experience, it's usually both. 3/4 of the bands are this way and 9/10 of the promoters are also this way.
