  • Think about the message in this song. Think about where we are in this country, and all the political lies we hear day after day (from all sides, not just the Rs or Ds). There are more of us, and, as Mr. McDonald so well states--we are all brothers and sisters.

Government is not the answer. Honest government is. It is up to each of us to get together, clean house on all the liars who "tell[] [us] the things they're gonna do for [us]". Only then will we enjoy liberty and justice for all.

  • You don't know me but I'm your brother

I was raised here in this living hell

You don't know my kind in your world

Fairly soon the time will tell

You...telling me the things you're gonna do for me

    I ain't blind and I don't like what I think I see

  • Damn! I knew he could sing and write, but I am completely blown away by the whole performance, especially the solo. Cheers!

  • Wow - that piano solo is great. :-)

  • MIchael is a class, act the real doobie brother !

  • CLASSIC BAAABBYYY !!!

  • Wow. Television used to feature music with actual artistry and creative musicians. What happened to us!?!?!?

  • bongos electrics & musicians

  • If they weren't really brothers i don't think they would have sound any better if they were :P

  • I am a very proud Atheist and this is the year of the Atheists

  • @TheGreatestStorms you are a very proud idot

  • @TheGreatestStorms

I judge nobody! Good luck with that....

  • This is the ows (or owls I say ) anthem .We all need to be takin it to the streets! Doobies got it right 30 yrs ago !

  • @matthewjparvin You are truly stupid. Don't you understand why they are doing that? Do you understand what's at stake?? Where do you get your news? How are the OWS CAUSING TROUBLE FOR WORKING PEOPLE!!!???? answer any of those questions before making moronic comments about politics, since you have no clue what of what you are talking about!!!!

  • For the OWS crowd it's "WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES"! ya think!

  • I was listening to the Dobbie Brothers with my boss and he said "I don't think there was a Doobie in the group." I just laughed and said "I'm sure there were a few floatin around"

  • @CheetoSantana no doubt.

  • Listening to this song as I drove up Riverview Road at 113 MPH with tears in my eyes. That Trans Am screamed as loud as I did, as I looked for some beautiful woman to end my lonliness. Janet had left, Michele had yet to arrive, and then I missed Jan, because I loved family life with Michele. Sad fool.

  • Theyre watchin you ReRun!!!

  • @edddievanalien got to go, pure pavement.Hot!

  • nimmakabob

  • Mike is STILL one of the finest white boys in the industry. He can most definitely get it!

  • I could eat him with a spoon!

  • @blueyedcookie2 oh no he's mine lol.....he is so adorable

  • I didn't see P Diddy. He must have been hiding in the audience.

    Oh.

  • skunk off in the cut, the drummer looks rather sporting

  • Truth #1:

The government has no right to physically terrorize or forcefully coerce, to any extent, the OWS.

    Truth #2:

The OWS is misguided and aiming its animosity at the wrong target, thereby making them stupid people.

  • to the occupiers, you are not occupying Wall Street you are just causing trouble for hard working tax paying americans, you suck

  • AMEN! OWS is a movement of the people! We are the 99% and we're taking it to the streets! Our government is criticizing Egypt for violence against protestors who want democracy? We supposedly HAVE democracy here and the police are brutalizing unarmed peaceful protestors across the country.Take it to the streets and count me in! ANd by the way - I'm 64 years old. I've seen it before. REMEMBER KENT STATE!

  • This is just beautiful music. I remember being 6/7 & running around my neighborhood saying, I love the Doobie Bros. LOL. I had good taste!

  • rerun and his bootleg recorder!

  • I wish there was a proper recording for the piano solos McDonald used to play on this track live.

  • There's no joking about it. 5 people have horrible taste for music.

  • Mr. McDonald wrote these lyrics at a time of serious concern for America. Government was on a runaway of overregulation, hyper taxation, and promises of the moon. Nobody seems to have considered the gravity of the message in this song. Its easy to get caught up in the sound; let's listen and heed the message. "We the People" are self governing. Time to move responsibly.

  • Luv these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Funny how this song rings true, still, 30+ years later... The more things change ,the more they stay the same.

  • kenny rice and bas rutten brought me here!

  • i wasn't born until 1989, and this song is still relevant. good music has no color and no time

  • @LottoLogista You sure right about that!

  • @LottoLogista i was born in 2008 and I love this song too!!!

  • @Beyoncefan1000 2008? really bro?

  • @LottoLogista hahaha hell no!! and Im not a bro. im a sis lol

  • For the occupiers of Wall St and All who are takin it to the streets, I salute you, I march with you~

  • @catgivens what has that got to do with the doobie brothers

  • @ruffdymond The lyrics to the song. They are about people oppressed disbelieving the voices of power, banding together for change in the streets. THAT, my friend, is what that has got to do with this song from The Doobie Brothers.

  • Stuff you!, racists, hes not from the middle east, he just looks

    like he is!

  • GO SKUNK GO!!!!

  • This is an a American Song about people in America. it's got nothing to do with your middle east hell holes

  • This song is a prayer ~

    Peace,

    V

  • These guys are so talented until it's ridiculous! I Love it!

  • Love Michael McDonald's voice...such a great talent

  • @VoyageOfExcellence as long as humans exist, so will religion. I however look forward to the time that it becomes irrelevant, though. That it doesn't matter.

  • Wow! Jeff Baxter was really cooking!

  • I think Michael McDonald called Rerun the N word for bootlegging this song. But it was edited out of that episode.

  • he is playing the hell out of that piano...and dude killed that get-ta-ra and put it down and got down with a mean 2 step and beat the hell out of that tambourine...lol...wow...music for the soul!

  • the "Piano Diddy" is actually the intro to Sweet Maxine, which is on youtube, as well...

  • I wanna be him 3:28 when I grow up. ♫

  • One if not the best vocalists in music history! At least one of my favorite songs of all time. Awesome!!!

  • Absolutely amazing. I regret every day that I was born In 1986 instead of 1956.

  • The DOOBIES jammmm this song really grooves!!!

  • Oh my God, they are BURNIN' on this version!!

Skunk and Michael are simply bananas here.

  • Oh hell yes!

  • skunk baxter is wearing headphones! LOL!!!!

  • absolutely frickin' amazing! that's the kind of music that i miss so much today. thanks ever so much for posting this! ;-D

  • 3 people don't deserve eardrums

  • @rlpoloplaya67 : YUP....6 now. W T F ? ; )

  • This gets it done.(if you know what I mean.)

  • No flash. Just pure artists. The best!

  • Skunk Baxter, baby....

AND Michael McDonald is a BAD ASS!!

  • Skunk Baxter, baby....

  • To those people who say this song is not about politics have their heads in the sand. It was written with the Civil Rights and Vietnam War protests in mind. Enjoy! Take your grievances to the street and let them be known. :)

  • Patrick Simmons always looks like he is having so much fun ! I love watching people do what they love, He always looks like it's the first time on a big stage,Even though he has been doing it for YEARS, Very cool ! He puts the Doobie in Brothers & contributes a lot to this band.

  • Skunk's solo is almost-almost as great as the late Cornelius Bumpus's sax solo

  • Some comments here are disturbing to me, so let me share my love of this song without a bleeding heart or self-consumed attitude... Poor until working age, when I started having success. Then hit by a drunk driver, and disabled. Back to poor again, and for the rest of my life. This song gives me hope, strength and makes me feel good in the midst of struggle and suffering. Relax everyone, and do try to remember that we all depend on one another in some way.

  • @queentokingslevel3 Quite a story - wish you well. May the Doobs be of support to you. They are to me.

  • Forget the stinking muslims, forget the stinking union-hugging leftists, enbrace the T.E.A. Party.

  • @POPACHELLI I respect your opinion because I respect what this piece of dirt we live on is all about. So, I hope you can respect mine - you're an idiot.

  • yeah...Michael killed it with that solo :) two thumbs up from me!

  • Michael McDonald got that voice get your panties wet quick

  • ok mike

  • 3 people need to be taken to the streets... and beaten.

  • i remember the tea party - original and new one - telling idiots (that would be liberals/leftists/democrats) to stop wasting our money and taxing us to death; as far as the middle east...i'm sure they mean Israel's struggle for freedom being surrounded by so many death-loving countries ;) --- then again, Bukuinc has the better idea

  • Fuck collective bargaining rights and fuck the middle east! I'll just listen to the music

  • Comment removed

  • @BUKUINC I'm with you brother. Keep your politics, your religion and your personal agendas out of my fucking music. True/powerful music is born from emotions like pain and love. It sends its own message~like the writer/composer intended. You leeches don't need to attach your own little meaning/message or use a song as your personal catalyst.

  • oh, just enjoy the music.

  • this man is amazing..i luv him for all the soundtracks that played with the chapters in my life....

  • For the brothers in the Middle East.

  • He never cut his beard :-). I love his pericing baby blues, although you cant see them on here :-(.

  • Is the whole concert on DVD?

  • Michael McDonald is so underrated. The man has a marvelous voice to this day. Brilliant performance!

  • I think we may have 2 take it 2 the streets b4 long this county is on its way down.........

  • amazing song

  • When you listen to this, remember when musicians we're artists, new what instruments were, how to use them & knew how to play live in concert.

  • @muzzmatrix Amen--how I miss those days!

  • @muzzmatrix You are an ignorant fool!

  • @muzzmatrix no shit? a musician can play an instrument, i had no fucking idea.

  • @muzzmatrix Not only that but also a big part was how to make the audience feel comfortable with down home southern hospitality. ;)

  • That there is indeed Skunk

  • Is that Jeff "the skunk" Baxter?

  • @gretschdrummer22 Oh yea! Skunk is tearin it up!!

  • Piano Diddy = Bathroom break

  • Remember when bands didn't need autotune or backing tracks to sound great live? Here you go.

  • This song is too violent for me.

  • I saw Michael McDonald in concert last Friday (May 27th)...he is even more incredible live.

  • One of the best few real bands ever......So natural

  • I didn't realize how good a keyboard player Michael was.

  • rerun bootleg recording!

  • Definetely the best version available to view on YouTube, thankfully with no awful sax solo, just Jeff Baxter in the groove BIG STYLE on his seat.....!!!

I could easily just watch & watch this many times, it's so tight & even dramatic as a performance.......amazing stuff.

  • @Ben4810 Couldn't agree more

  • Totally utterly stunning. Priceless

  • Now thats a show~!

  • Classic Doobies! What a band!!

  • Damm Jeff is so freaking good!!!!!

  • I listen to technical death metal, but I love this band. OMG. hahahaha

  • He's soooo fine! I love the sound of his voice. So much soul.

  • skunk keeps fiddling with his buttons, it's so annoying.

  • @leeharveyosmosis He was always hyper on stage-swinging his seat,moving around.With Steely Dan,too!

  • what microphone is on Michael's vocals?

  • @TheAmazingestJay sennheiser 409, primarily used for guitar cabinets, some drum mic-ing, the vocal stage mic of choice for pink floyd and the doobie brothers!

  • ditty*, not diddy...but ya, nitpicking aside, awesome song

  • Mike was/is even still( the ol silver bear) fookin handsome as hell

  • now THIS is real music.

  • Skunk!

  • 0:24 hat win

  • Skunk Baxter in top form!

  • I wish music of today could be this good. No electronic enhancements just raw talent. I miss real music.

  • Mr. McDonald was a very elegant man!

  • To the people of the Middle East that are engaged in a struggle for freedom.

  • @fluffydanny Who the fuck are you? Get off tis frequency. And the 8 that Thumed Up..you're dead

  • @HUTINAK Is that a threat? The eight that thumed up are my brothers,if you get my drift. I will play it again,Sam.

  • @fluffydanny The people in the Middle East? Don't forget about those of us in the US who are struggling to fight the good fight against a coming Plutocracy!

  • @fluffydanny ...and guess who wants the oilfields in eastern Libya...

  • @galacticapoon Uh, Canada?

  • @fluffydanny fuck your middle east....id nuke you tommoro in the blink of an eye!!!!

  • @PinewoodStudio1 Arab spring, American winter. Bring it on.

  • Man Mike is a beast on the keys lol

  • Remember our Veterans and those who are serving, whether you agree with past or present administrations!

They and this country need us to stand up.

  • I knew it. I TOLD my dad, that McDonald sang this. Not Tyrone or whatever.

  • Back then, music had soul.

  • whats the name of that clicking instrument

  • the 70's, a great time for music, a horrible time for fashion

  • @MegaPoone Haha! Yes, I don't know whether to laugh or cray at the stuff I wore then!

  • @MegaPoone Hey, the fashion was GREAT for the times.

  • Love this song

  • I didn't know the "Leprachun" from all of those movies was in the Doobie Brothers. Multi-talented is he. And he knows where the pot of gold is too.

  • Michael McDonald changed the sound of the Doobie Brothers since he joined the group

  • No more Black guys for the White guys to imitate.

That said, defense consultant and Congressional Advisory Board on missile defense chairs Skunk Baxter played a mean solo on this ditty.

  • MIchael MCdonald has the smoothest black guy voice,

  • I loveeeee Michael McDonald's voice!!

  • Great band with Micheal McDonald's sultry deep voice...excellent!!

  • THIS is MUSIC!!!!!!

  • Wow - I knew he was a great singer/piano player, but I didn't know McD was THAT good on the piano. Wow.

  • the Doobies were always better with Michael in the ranks. Beat male vocalist ever bar none

  • Listen to Jeff's solo, and listen to the "go out stuff" on Michael Mc Donalds piano, and then listen to the overall arrangement, how "unabrtusive it is" and I think you'll start to see how good these guys really are as musicians. Marc Trainor.

  • All right, I need to talk about these guys and I'm definitly on my soap box, but I think I know what I'm about to say needs to be said by someone. There's a reason these guys are so popular and have had such longevity. They're just that darn good. I've never seen a group who could change personell as many times as the Doobies and still maintain such a high level of quality. Keep in mind this was recorded in 1977. Some of you may not have even been alive back then. Marc.

  • Black Irish soul, mutha fl*cka...and that Baxter;s been doin those black beauties again I see

  • i never noticed the doobies selling out in the eighties.

  • I think MM brought a tad more jazzy pop into the southern mix, not that it's a bad thing, just sayin'

  • Anybody remember the 1800COLLECT commercial with Richard Dean Anderson. This was playing in the background.

  • The music in this song is out of this world! I could listen to this all day. These guys are brilliant!!

  • When you listen to this, remember the people protesting for collective bargaining rights to remain in Wisconsin, and the rest of the country!

  • You got that right I was there yesterday and came home and youTubed this song right away

  • @dstol62 You got that right I was there yesterday and came home and YouTubed this song right away

  • @dstol62 DAMN RIGHT!!!

  • @dstol62 I remember the people protesting. They have that right. But they will be defeated. Real Americans do not wish to stand by while they and their kind bankrupt this country.

  • @sholomyaakov oh i see, and who says you and your kind are any more real Americans than anyone else? You are too arrogant.

  • @dstol62

    damn right man

  • @dstol62 When you listen to this, remember to...Just "Listen To The Music" and leave the politics OUT OF IT!

  • @exposurejd Leave the politics out of it? Did you bother to listen to the lyrics? This is ABOUT politics and social justice, my friend.

  • @auroradawn23 Yes, I did bother to listen to the lyrics. Sorry, I'm a musician and so I pay much more attention to the music and not to someones subjective view of politics or "social justice"...My friend.

  • @dstol62 You go !!!! from a long time union member (ex) nlol! "Ronald Reagan is a Union Busting S.O.B."

  • When people actually "worked" for their supper!

    Fabulously talented group!

  • I think you mean "ditty," as in little song.

  • We did this song in choir in fifth grade! Every lyric is coming back to me!

  • Lots of people taking it to the streets! People are not blind, and they're fed up with the disgusting level corruption has reached into the fabric of so many lives struggling to get by. For the women in Italy and the men too! People being real about their passions. Love to them...

  • nobody does like jeff
