Puppy, they do not make the type of dust that some birds make. They need to eat fresh foods, NOT pellets. Pellets cause a neurological problem, toe tapping and wing flipping, in some eclectus. They eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, small amounts of grains and seeds.
I had the joy of filming in this location as well on Cape York. They are one of 50 species of Australian parrots I had the opportunity to film in 2008. You can take a look at the trailer by typing in the words discovering the world of parrots hee on youtube.
@Diehl2229 No, Solomons are smaller, the blue on the female is more of a royal blue and there is a clear seperation between the red and blue. The Solomon female also has a blue ring around the eyes. The Solomon and New Guinea (or Red-sided) females look the same, but the New Guinea is slightly larger. My guess is that these are Australian Eclectus.
My ekkie, Woody when he looks at another eclectus on the computer his eye turns yellow and he gets all tall xDDD Watch my mom's video. Ekkie cam, or Grumpy bird you will see him. Thanks!
@XxPuppyTheCaninexX Just wondering if u can help. Being an owner of an eclectus, I'm sure u can offer me some info. I was thinking of getting an eclectus but am not sure about how much it costs to keep them ie food etc. Also, I'm curious as to how much dander they shed as I am prone to the odd runny nose due to pet dust! Have just recently bought a cockatiel and would like to buy a eclectus parrot, too. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
i'm pretty sure this was a "Nature" episode on PBS. The full length video is amazing. Not all about eclectus but many parrots and their lives in the wild. I love how the female is like, "Feed me you idiot!"

Thank you for showing us how complex these creatures are. Handfeeding cannot successfully replace the avian parental care!
