From what I know, the student came into the room, asked Houdini if his statement about being able to take any punch above the waist was true, and Houdini said yes. The student then proceeded to punch him 3 times in the stomach before Houdini had the chance to tighten his stomach muscles and prepare himself. The student managed to punch him several more times before he began to show pain.

as far as i rembmer few years back i see a ghost of houdini or was it a dream telling me he died  doing a stunt that went so wrong he died in a eleteric chair stunt on hallowheen october 31 can't rembmer what year doing more research it was never proven that kid punched houdini in the stomche ? to me it does not mater how he died it all about magic/illisons and fun person that he was

@Bboybobo The movie is fictional...he never had an affair with any woman named Mary McGarvie! He used to pay his wife bess $5 everytime he had to kiss another woman for his acts!! He died from a burst appendix after being in Montreal and not being able to prepare for the hit-that is true but the 90% love affair is not true that the film is centred around. Although it is a good film. x

I read that Houdini disappeared. He did a stunt/trick where he was lowered into a bay or similar body of water. When they raised the safe or box or what ever he was in during the stunt he was no where to be found and was never seen again. Neither was his girlfriend. That's what I read happened.

houdini died when a college student called whitehead . during conversation with the harry and two friends who were visiting houdini at the time he asked to give houdini a few punches in the stomach as he had heard that harry had the strenght to take any punch to his abs. as houdini was starting to get up when whitehead swung the blows. houdini died of a ruptured appendix on halloween night. also ,he was married to a woman called bess so he didn't have a girlfriend

im doing a report on harry houdini and he died because a colledge kid asked if he could punch harry and he said yes because he let people do it all the time but he didnt get a chance to get ready and broke something in his stomche and died sad i know but does anyone know WHERE his grave is like is it in wisconsin appleton or somethin?

Many people believes that it was caused by a punch at the stomach a college gave him during an inteview for their student's newspaper, but this is uncertain because appendicitis is caused by an infection.

A lot of people seem to think the blow to the stomach caused the appendix to rupture. That can't be right: appendicitis is, as you say, caused by bacterial infection, and a punch causing a ruptured appendix just never happens. The appendix burst because it could no longer expand to contain the infection. The spread of the bacterial infection (staphylococcus peritonitis) is what really killed him anyway, NOT the punch itself. The punch could have aggravated things, though.

Houdini's grave is in Machpelah Cemetery, Queens, NYC. You can recognize it by it's monumentally-sized exedra with the bust on top and a "pieta" (weeping girl) on the bench in front. Plus it has HOUDINI carved in huge letters on the back and front. You can't miss it. ;)

You're right. One of the latest version talk about he was really a spy, and used his fame and skills as escape performer to obtain secret information from other countries he was touring (WW1 years). So, to protect himself, he faked his death, and died many years later we were told.

It would be so much his style. Besides, he played a spy: "Haldane of the Secret Service", on his own movies.

But with figures like him is hard to define where the man ends and starts the myth.

No, he didn't. There are other people who have died trying it (and you can look for those videos at youtube), but Houdini only rehearsed the Buried Alive escape and never performed it in public.

Some believe he died performing the Chinese Water Torture Cell, but it isn't true; the idea came from the final scene of the Houdini movie with Tony Curtis, where that is suggested.
