  • I am a lighting designer, i am going to do the lighting for this pieces of music.

  • No existen palabras aun para podes describir esto... es increible.

  • The Cor Anglais-set against the backdrop of tremolo strings-really does bring this piece to life in the minds eye. Amazing scoring by Sibelius IMHO!

  • Beautiful! It's bit creepy but still so warm... Too bad that they didn't use this in final version!

  • This is so beautiful

  • Meraviglioso, grazie !

  • I thought the Swan of Tuonela was black. Maybe the artists felt a white swan would provide a better contrast against the black river. No matter, it's still beautiful and I'd much rather watch these hand-drawn creations (even roughs) over the formulaic computer algorithms that pass for animation today. I would like to have seen Lemminkainen featured here, though. He as sent to kill the swan, but could not...because the swan's sad song overwhelmed him. One of Sibelius' best pieces. Very moving.

  • @bgarri57 Yes, you're right! The swan in the original finnish legend is black!

  • Take this exactly as it is, no need actually complete it, and run it instead of the live action crap they play on Cartoon Network. That stuff ain't even in the same league as this work of art.

  • More than forty years ago I was on holiday staying with my mother. Crept in one night and went straight to be with my little radio. This piece came on and at the end I listened carefully for the name. Wrote it down and on my return to London, researched it. Found it. Bought the LP and now also have it at the touch of a button on 'thank you' YOUTUBE. It has been with me ever since. Beautiful graphics on this version. Thank you.

  • It is important that we not confuse the original Walt Disney, a true man, with the Walt Disney Corporation, which exists by actual company law to make money, just as oil companies do.

  • This is amazingly beautiful. I had the opportunity to see it on a big screen with a live orchestra at the Hollywood bowl, and the entire audience shut up. Just gorgeous. I wish they'd found a way to animate it, because then it would have been lovely.

  • Is it from Fantasia 2000? or the original one?

  • @Thecarbolicsmokeball

    Sorry for my poor english

It's a deleted idea from the original Fantasia (1940)

  • Wow, this video is amazing... I'm stunned by this beauty. I'm a teacher of Finnish and Literature and I think I'm gonna show this video to my pupils, when I'll teach Kalevala to them. So thank you very, very much! :)

  • ever since I first saw this I'm awed and speechless

  • ♥ mysteriously, marvelously, solitary BEAUTIFUL!! Both of the music and the video are so touching and stunning!! Thank you so much for posting & sharing.♥

  • The concept art combined with the music is so impressive. The part 5:36 - 5:47 , especially, would have been amazing to see animated. This moves me to tears... a masterpiece.

  • Do not pronounce words "Disney" and "Sibelius" in same sentence! :D Sibelius was a great man, sort of finnish national hero, at least one of them. He transformed finnish soul into his music, Disney just wanted to make a quick buck. So no, don't mix 'em!

  • @OnlyLifeMatters Disney did NOT want to just make a quick buck. He was an artisan. Fantasia was rooted in the concept of ART FOR ART'S SAKE!

  • @Robeykr Maybe I went to the extremes there, but I just was trying to make my point: Sibelius means that much to us Finns

  • @OnlyLifeMatters There was no intention to compare Disney and Sibelius at all, unless you're avant-garde and prefer your Sibelius without even the hint of commercialism to taint it. If this sequence had been fully animated and released, the effect would have been so profound...I know it was with me, and I'd visualized sequences like this in my imagination DECADES before seeing these sketches on the DVD. Sibelius would have become the pre-eminent living composer world-wide, and rightly so.

  • Very beautiful!

  • i listened the firebirrd and i must say that this is much much more beautiful, and this have much more feeling

  • Reminds me of "the firebird" a little in fantasia 2000 nd the LOTRE towards the end... so ahead of its time in fantasy...

  • It's unfinished . . .

  • This is, quite simply, INCREDIBLE. What I wouldn't do to have seen this fully animated. The art is gorgeous and fits Sibelius's icy score wonderfully.

  • I can't believe I'm the first American to make a comment on this attempt of Disney to put Sibelius' gorgeous tone poem to image. The first time I saw this on DVD, I think my body temp. and heart rate dropped at least 10 degrees/bpms. I'm a lonely American for loving this since I was a boy. Sublime!

  • nah, you're not alone.

  • bon sang mais pourquoi ne l'ont-ils pas fait en dessin animé? C'est tellement beau!

  • Eine wundervolle Musik.

Das Video gefällt mir dazu sehr gut.

    Klasse gemacht.
