Wow...granted, i sometimes get mad when i cant find certain types of Japanese food here, but going to japan and not being able to find a jar of peanut butter (with nothing but ground up peanuts with no additives or hydrogenation) would be extremely frustrating.
I have eaten both american peanut butter and japanese peanut cream. For me , american peanut butter is tasteless ( not sweet ), so I prefer japanese peanut cream . What you said " vaselline " is like grape jelly in the U.S.
WHAT?!?! Dude, I actually love that stuff you called names. I have eaten it about 3 times in the last 4 years , but each time it never fails my tastebuds. I personally like it very much.. but hey, still liked your video =) nice work. I found you through Tofugu ^.^ see you around the tube.
I've had the pre-made sandwich before and I have to say, I loved it. I'm not a big fan of PB but when I had it it was delicious. It tastes great when you finish it with one of those 3.2% strength chu-hai.
Maybe the Peanut Cream was a bad brand because I had it in Japan and it didn't taste waxy at all. I honestly prefered it over American peanut butter because it was lighter and not so sticky. It was definitely more suited to my breakfast toast.
Peanut butter is actually like my biggest fear when it comes to moving to japan. If I can't find it... or can't afford it.. eep! It's like my staple food.
Noooo!!!, I loved those sealed, crustless peanut butter sammiches when I went to Tokyo!, I don't like beef so when we went to the shabushabu place,I had that sammich :D
I've had Uncrustables here in the US and think they are pretty good. They are so convenient when you're working long hours and don't have time to make a sandwich to take to work.
KYAA! now i am craving peanut butter :) haha my mom bought me those crustless peanut butter sandwiches once and i just threw them out they were so disgusting XD I like the stuff imported from America best <3
Oh man, your video makes me want to whip up a peanut butter sandwich right now. .. I actually want to try peanut cream too, just out of curiosity haha.
Great review! Have you seen all-natural peanut butter over there? Ingredients should read "peanuts and salt (maybe)" no sugar or oil added. I'd be shocked if you have.
Oh and talking to a crust-less sandwich.... priceless!! :)
I've only seen it in import shops at ridiculously high prices. (But I'll be honest - I like mine with oil and sugar...ha ha ha. Don't get me wrong - but by the time the natural stuff gets over here it's not so roasty-toasty good anymore. You know?)
Aaahhh yes, I can imagine! I'm assuming there are no peanuts grown in Japan (where are peanuts grown anyway?!) but why can't they import the peanuts then grind them into the deliciousness we all grew up with????
I actually kind of like the peanut butter sandwich thingy..... obviously its not as good as the peanut butter we can get back in North America but its cheap and decent.
Actually peanut butter doesn't have that much sugar in it. Normal brands like Jiff only have about 3g sugar per serving.
I am sure the peanut cream and the stuff inside that sandwich have a bit more sugar, but normal peanut butter is not high in sugar. It is kind of misleading because it does have somewhat of a sweet taste, I think it's just something about peanuts. One thing is for sure though, peanut butter is very addictive. It's got the whole salty and sweet thing going on.
Wow, I didn't know peanut butter was eaten in Japan. From what I had been told and read, I always thought peanut butter was just something eaten in the States. =0
1.) Those PB sandwiches are DELICIOUS. Magically delicious.
2.) Ohhh peanut cream is not THAT bad!! Even I often compare foods to non-edible items to be as accurate in my description as possible, but I used to eat that stuff because it's like caramel. Caramel!! Not Vasoline. I claim that false advertising ;P
You are so funny! I really enjoyed watching this. =] That peanut cream is the nastiest looking peanut butter I have ever seen. It really does look like petroleum jelly. Poor guy...having to eat that for us. Haha
Yeah - mobile peanut products are all the rage. (Or something?) Ha ha. Thanks for the props - the peanut cream is really...just as bad as it looks. I was too harsh on the prepacked sandwich - but not harsh enough on the peanut cream. That stuff is gag-tastic. Ha ha.
I ate most of it. Not the cream. though. Just couldn't do it. I've never seen sesame cream before. I've seen black sesame spread that looks similar to Vegemite, but not a regular sesame cream. And I am addicted to sesame - it's easily my favorite salad dressing, ramen condiment, etc. I'll have to look into that.
The best peanut butter I ever had was in Australia... It was also very sweet, and I only ever had it out of those single serve containers like you find at a diner. I lived off that stuff, since all the other food I got was crap.
Hmm, never would've imagined that Japanese brand peanut butter was sweeter than American brand, especially after tasting a lot of different Japanese cakes.
Peanut cream is the worst type of peanut spread ever made. It's like they took 20 parts sugar, added one part peanut butter and five parts oil....yeah. That's peanut cream.
I just hate how much it costs me to buy PB. I love having PB&J for breakfast with my coffee.
Nice review. I pretty much agree with everything...although I commend you for swallowing the peanut cream...I spat it out after it touched my tongue! @_@
Ha ha ha - but it IS like spreading vaseline. After I made this video, I chucked that stuff. I kept all the rest, and will eventually use it all. But not the cream. No way, no how.
I pretty much knew that the American peanut butter would taste better. The Japanese peanut butter was interesting to look at *and tasting for you* although that Snoopy peanut butter looks like baby poo-poo. X((((
I enjoyed this. I miss natural peanut butter you could get back in the states, even though the oil and "butter" would separate, it lacked all those unnecessary "hydrogenated oils" and things your body doesn't really need.
Japanese white bread has always bothered me... The slices are thick, dense... oddly sweet... but mostly just thick. I swear, every loaf, no matter the number of slices, has the same mass.
The bread on my island is in rotation all the time. I might end up with wonder-style white bread (which I agree with you about), the kind with rice flour, the kind with whole grains (mmm), the English-style (awesome toast), or the butter bread from Hokkaido (sweeeet). I wish I had greater control over these things.
It's true..I have come under extreme criticism for being too harsh to the conbini peanut butter sandwich. This might just be a case of a 「許すべからざる意見」? Ha ha ha.
Thanks! You can stick with any peanut butter you fancy, really. (I just prefer the American-style.)
You know, I used to watch that show on old VHS tapes that were losing their magnetic images. So nostalgic. Ha ha. Skippy, Skippy, Skippy the Bush Kangaroo....Skippy, Skippy, Skippy a friend ever true...
