Bret wouldn't have been shit in WCW and he really wasn't. There was way too much talent for an older Bret to be the face. He wasn't as big as Hogan or Sting (in terms of popularity) and he wasn't hotter than Goldberg who was the biggest name in pro wrestling from 98-00 (with the exception of Austin and Rock). Bret really put himself in a fucked up situation by joining WCW in the 1st place. He could have been bigger in the WWF feuding with Austin, Shawn and a rising Rock.
@Kingjd87 Backstage politics and stupid scripting ruined Bret's chance to be one of the top guys in WCW, simple as that. If you took Hogan, Bischoff and Nash out of the equation when it came to storylines and who had the spotlight kept on them, it would've been a totally different story for Bret. The nWo angle was stale by the end of 1998 and just hogging up air time.
If you took Hogan, Nash and Bishoff out of the equation especially in '98 WCW would have been in the shitter. That's like saying, take Austin, Rock and Vince out of WWF and HHH would have shined. LMAO
@Kingjd87 Way to completely miss the point. When i said 'take them out of the equation' i was referring to the booking power and creative control, not removing them from the company ffs. If you took at least half of the spotlight-time that they wrote themselves into and gave it to the other talents the product wouldn't have been so boring with the continuous nWo crap, and guys like Bret Hart would've had way more opportunity to get into some proper WHC feuds.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH that was MAD funny!! "Lets cut to a commercial break brother. Show'em something they should be buying!" LOL LOL LOL LMBO!
Hogan done a lot more damage to WCW than he did good. Fair enough he turned heel and joined the NWO which got the monday night wars kick started but after that got stale no one gave a fuck. He created backstage politics, refused to put Sting over clean at Starrcade '97 after months of build up, we wanted to see Sting take the NWO down but it was just fucking ruined because of him. He pretty much ran the company because of his creative control and being friends with bischoff.
diluting the NWO was stupid. it was desperate attempt to battle the WWF in the ratings. let's face it, they were running out of ideas and the whole NWO thing was a one trick pony that they rode for three years until it finally died. Time Warner wanted nothing to with the wrasslin business, that was a Ted Turner thing. Ted knew that wrestling had a core audience and they built TNT around it.
I read that the real problem was that they simply didn't know how to end the story line.... so they just let it ride until the end. Yes, the nWo storyline was the best, but people eventually grew tired of it. The mistake they made was what's called the "Fingerpoke of Doom" where they reunite the nWo and brought things back to how they used to be... and made this whole wolfpack story meaningless.
I remember watching this back when it was live, it was so great to see the Wolfpac get humiliated. I didn't care much for them because they acted like too good shoes, nwo was suppose to be bad, but then this wolfpac comes along being a good version of the nwo.
this was the beginning of the end of WCW. The sub franchising of the NWO idea into two factions was diluting the storyline. Combined with the fact that they would be putting the title on David Arquette in a few monthes from then, they were desperate for ratings. When you add the factor of AOL/Time warner basically getting out of the wrestling business...and Hogan's interview is not making sense...lol
@neverwuz01 i liked the two factions and the david aruette was atleast a year away. That happened when russo was there maybe 2 years later. Wcw at this stage was kicking wwf ass for ratings
@neverwuz01 It wasn't just that, it was the people they chose for the wolfpack. Luger? Konan? Sting? Savage? Odd choices. If they'd made the NWO black the old school legends (say Hogan, Warrior, Savage, Sting) and the NWO red the young up and coming talent (Hall, Nash, Booker T, Jericho etc) then they might have been onto something.
Way back when Iw as a kid, I really do think that Bret doesn't mesh well with the nWo. He should have stayed solo and face against the nWo instead of joining them.
I see the Hogan debate going on but ask yourself this. Would WCW have gotten where it did if Hogan hadn't betrayed ALL of his fans by going nWo? That one little match against Nash Changed EVERYTHING forWCW. They had a hit on their hands! I've been a Hogan fan since a kid. I hate seeing the Hogan hate. Give the man credit for helping to make wrestling what it is.
@pookiewood exactly bro!! and don't yo0u hate the lil programable fans who cheer for who they are 'told' to cheer for and 'boo/hate' who they are told are bad guys and encourged to hate. I mean wrestling is 'fake' ( predetermined ) its ENTERTAINMENT how can ANY fan truly be 'let down/disappointed or DEF not upset' when they fave CHARACTER turns 'heel'?? Look If I'm a Nash/Hall/nWo fan (which I happen to be) then guess what? I'm a Outsider/nWo fan if they are "good" if they are "bad" whatever!
@Kingjd87 you're a fucking moron, bret shits on hogan because of this exact reason you idiot. hogan hogged all the light from everyone else. good god, if you enjoy watching a 60 year old bald geezer punch kick and leg drop for 15 minutes...you suck at life.

It's the truth, sorry that it hurts your feelings. lmao I barley wanted to see Bret in the WWF. I loved to watch him wrestle but his mic skills and promos were snore fests. Thank God Austin came along and made that rivalry (Austin vs Bret) interesting!
@Kingjd87 If everybody wanted to see sting, hogan, nash and goldberg why were those the 4 top guys in wcw when WWE bought them out in 2001? oh right, because Nobody actually wanted to see them except idiot marks like you. HA AHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAH
Hogan was the top guy when he came back in 2001. Remember a little match billed Hogan vs Rock WM 19???Remember when "the heel" Hogan got more cheers than the top baby face (Rock) who got booed out of the building?? Remember?? U clown....Hell even Hall and Nash had solid runs, Goldberg was World Champ in WWE and he beat both HHH and Rock.
@Kingjd87 that was 2002 and wrestlemania 18. and toronto fans are idiots and rock put those fucking morons in place when he became a heel in 2003. those fans cheered hogan for nostalgic reasons only. kind of like how fans were cheering for bret hart as a HUGE face against mcmahon at wrestlemania 26 in a terrible match. if doink the clown came back, he'd get a huge pop too...buy a clue nimrod
Regardless of the specific dates the fact still remains the same. They cheered Hogan only for nostalgic reasons against Rock??? Where you watching wrestling in the early 2ks??? HOGAN HAD A LEGIT world title run. He was champ getting HUUGGGEEE pops every night like it was the 80s all over. And comparing Hogan getting cheered like Doink the Clown coming back = utter failure! Clearly you're an idiot.
@Kingjd87 who the fuck is Bert Hart? Wherever he goes, the company turns to SHIT and sinks! hhahaahha LMAOOOO
@InternetAesHole actuallly they were the top guys and let me break it down for you hogan wasnt with wcw since bash at the beach 2000 goldberg was out injured the last 2 months of wcw and sting never wanted to join wwe and since wcw guys had gaurented contracts goldberg hogan and nash sat at home till it ran out
you talking a lot of trash to the king for someone who doesnt have his facts straight
@hbk2hhh what the fuck are you talking about? wcw was going down the toilet since 98' and was continuing their downward spiral until they finally got bought out. HOGAN was prominent during this terrible stretch...they turned him face, turned him heel, face again...nothing worked because hogan couldn't draw worth shit. now look at his old ass in tna, remember when his return there went head to head with brets? who had the HUGE rating increase? Yah Brets return on RAW destroyed Hogan on TNA. fag
@InternetAesHole well you completely switched subject but what ever. They only turned hogan face once and he stayed face untill he left the company in july 2000, and wcw was good and had strong ratings untill mid 99. As for the returns obviously wwe had higher ratings they always do and tna is always in the 1's but neither show jump huge in the ratings because of either return. by the way what are you 10 calling people fags over wrestling convo lol
@InternetAesHole you do not know a thing about the ratings from well beyond 1998 that had WCW on top of WWE for a long stretch and it was all because of the NwO and what they did with Hogan. You need to watch the fall of WCW, its here on youtube, get your facts straight, and understand what RATINGS MEAN. Hogan turning heel was on of the most brilliant ideas of the time even Vince McMahon said it
@arsenal904 Agreed, the great thing about your statement is that there is fact behind it. WWE didn't get big until the slow decline of WCW started. It wasn't until late 1999, 2000, that WWE took off and knocked WCW off its perch and ran with it without stopping. It was the competition between the two that made both organizations great. Now since WWE doesn't have a legitimate opponent, they can do whatever they want and chose the demographic they want. TNA can't hold a candle to that.
@crimsonram69 Actually the WWF started winning the ratings battle in mid 1998. WCW stayed competitive but WCW wasn't going to dominate the ratings like they did anymore because the WWE was a much better product in 1998 then 1996. WCW could have stayed competitve in the ratings during 1999 and beyond but they were clueless and kept going back to the old fuckers and the NWO. It seems like Bischoff had no idea what to do with WCW after the NWO was defeated. Warrior showing up didn't help either.
Ya'll should never compare TNA to WCW. They are two totally different companies and WCW was on a level TNA will never get to. TNA is garbage when it comes to wrestling and entertainment.
@crimsonram69 So true man. WCW was a SuperHypernova thrill in the bones. I give credit to tNa they try to do there best but it's just not like back in the 90's.
@VillaFanFTW Can wrestle how? By half way killing themselves and the other guys in the ring. And Entertain what? A room with 50 people in it that keeps the lights low so you can't tell if there is a full house or not. So check yourself before you call someone an idiot fool. WCW still kills TNA.
very short. He was there with rude for a very short time. In a matter of weeks it was clear he was there to do a swerve and betray them. In this case. Konnan
the problem i had with this story line was how long and boring it was, then hogan and nash get together as nwo elite making this whole story line pointless, lastly this should had been hogan vs nash and the semi destruction of Nwo, like the HHH and Michaels fued between 2002-2004 with the semi destruction of DX
Thats what killed WCW, the NWO, it was all about them. they should've just made it a semi-main storyline and had a feud between 3 factions of 5 members.
NWO B&W: Hogan(Leader), Giant, Piper, Scott Stiener, Buff Bagwell.
NWO WP:Savage(leader),Nash, Hall, Konnan, Luger.
WCW:Sting, Goldberg, Hennig, Benoit, Jericho.
I hope WWE brings back WCW, as a brand atleast, i miss the theme, they could put Bobby Heenan and Shivone/JR as commentators.
@imheretoraisehell316 piper joining the nwo woulda never happened; he hated hogan. luger shoulda stayed in wcw too. i like ur ideas, but i think wwe would just totally screw over wcw the way they did the ecw and nwo brands cuz vince hates and therefore kills everything that was successful, which he didn't personally think up, out of spite.

What I do not get, is why McMahon does not compliment the PG WWE of today, with non-PG material on the other brands.
Why not have a true extreme ECW, which is not PG, and keep it totally separate from WWE.
And they could have WCW branded as a kind of attitude era style.
And keep WWE PG.
Why not have the best of all worlds?

Hennig was in the Wolfpac?

Salute.

Agree with pretty much everything you just said. Unfortunately Heenan is no longer in any kind of capcity to be a commentatory anymore.

Yes the good ole days when wrestling wasn't watered down.

ah, the old days. just before wcw took a nose dive. so much potential with this, wasted.

The Wolfpack should've stayed more like tweeners, and Sting should've never been a part of it.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
You know, I wish people would voice their disagreements instead of always just giving a thumbs down.
