Bret wouldn't have been shit in WCW and he really wasn't. There was way too much talent for an older Bret to be the face. He wasn't as big as Hogan or Sting (in terms of popularity) and he wasn't hotter than Goldberg who was the biggest name in pro wrestling from 98-00 (with the exception of Austin and Rock). Bret really put himself in a fucked up situation by joining WCW in the 1st place. He could have been bigger in the WWF feuding with Austin, Shawn and a rising Rock.

If you took Hogan, Bischoff and Nash out of the equation when it came to storylines and who had the spotlight kept on them, it would've been a totally different story for Bret. The nWo angle was stale by the end of 1998 and just hogging up air time.

Hogan done a lot more damage to WCW than he did good. Fair enough he turned heel and joined the NWO which got the monday night wars kick started but after that got stale no one gave a fuck. He created backstage politics, refused to put Sting over clean at Starrcade '97 after months of build up, we wanted to see Sting take the NWO down but it was just fucking ruined because of him. He pretty much ran the company because of his creative control and being friends with bischoff.

I read that the real problem was that they simply didn't know how to end the story line.... so they just let it ride until the end. Yes, the nWo storyline was the best, but people eventually grew tired of it. The mistake they made was what's called the "Fingerpoke of Doom" where they reunite the nWo and brought things back to how they used to be... and made this whole wolfpack story meaningless.

What I do not get, is why McMahon does not compliment the PG WWE of today, with non-PG material on the other brands.

Why not have a true extreme ECW, which is not PG, and keep it totally separate from WWE.

Combined with the fact that they would be putting the title on David Arquette in a few monthes from then, they were desperate for ratings. @arsenal904 Agreed, the great thing about your statement is that there is fact behind it. WWE didn't get big until the slow decline of WCW started. It wasn't until late 1999, 2000, that WWE took off and knocked WCW off its perch and ran with it without stopping. It was the competition between the two that made both organizations great. Now since WWE doesn't have a legitimate opponent, they can do whatever they want and chose the demographic they want. TNA can't hold a candle to that.

WCW stayed competitive but WCW wasn't going to dominate the ratings like they did anymore because the WWE was a much better product in 1998 then 1996. WCW could have stayed competitve in the ratings during 1999 and beyond but they were clueless and kept going back to the old fuckers and the NWO. It seems like Bischoff had no idea what to do with WCW after the NWO was defeated. Warrior showing up didn't help either.
