The celebrity player on screen left is Patty Duke Astin (a formidable actress in her day... As a child, Oscar winner for Miracle Worker 1962 and her own show about identical cousins) but she's also the mother of actors Sean Astin (Rudy, LordOfTheRingsTrilogy) and Mackenzie Astin (Iron Will). She was once married to late actor John Astin (the original Gomez from TheAddamsFamily tv show).
NO CLUE who the celebrity player screen right is? Maybe on a tv show at the time?
RIP Bert you were one of the best Game Show Hosts. Even though by my count 3 times you gave away the puzzle you were still fun to watch. We will all miss you very much.
They didn't have a good track record with the "oyster" puzzle on this show. There was another time they used it, and the board operator goofed and gave it away.
Oh the number of times Bert has done this! They are so funny, he was trying to help them out only to give it away accidentally. LOL at him putting the tape with his name over his mouth!
These were always my favorite parts of Super Password, it got to be such a problem at times that the "tape" for his mouth became a sort of running "gag".
Bert Convy may have been a good host but I would not trust him with a format like this. If anyone out there wants to be a game show host; Bert Convy is a prime example of all the don'ts. Giving away the puzzle in the many times he did it (not just these occasions) but he did many times more, is just wrong and funny. Bert is just too genial for a guessing game; he should've stuck to Tattletales. I give him 2 stars as a host but 4 stars for his ultimate blooper.
I guess he was the best available Mark Goodson could find. "Password Plus" host Tom Kennedy was already busy with "Body Language" on CBS, so what choice did he have?
It also just came to me that "Tattletales" was cancelled only a few months before "Super Password" premiered, so I guess Mr. Goodson wanted Bert to keep working for him.
most game show hosts have screwed up like that even jack barry did that at least once with the british singer catgorey

The best part is that Bert is reading off the clues to Mr. Potatohead as it slowly realizes that he just said the answer.

Quick question, who are the two celebrity guests?

Bert has such a great attitude. Even when he blows the puzzle and the audience heckles him for it he's still smiling!

SHUT UP BERT! YOU'LL GIVE AWAY THE PUZZLE!

This is actually why Bert was such a memorable host, there's a reason Goodson didn't fire him for constantly doing this.

Male celebrity: Nathan Cook from "Hotel", who seemed to make a second living being on these game shows during the 80s.

Bert wasn't the first, however. Tom Kennedy messed up several times in Password Plus.

I am not sure how, but at least both were good.

this was back when game shows were fun and unpredictable. Even when a screw-up like this happens, it's still fun to watch the comedy that ensues.
