The voter turn out has so far been unprecedented, youth voters are turning out in droves, white folks are freely voting for a black candidate. Iowa voted for a black candidate for the first time EVER.
When was the last time Americans were this engaged in politics? The civil rights movement, Vietnam? Do the math and Michelle's comment is right on point.

But forcing people to stand and salute the flag and proclaim America is #1 or suffer ridicule and abuse is the reason America needs change. "First time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country". What a megalomaniac!! Just because the country appears to be falling for her husband, it is now worthy of her pride? I hope this stops his supporters in their tracks, and makes them think about who they are supporting.

I agree, or at least his post presidency isn't something to be proud of. The Jesse Jackson remarks were pathetic. Its sad to because had gained a lot of respect to for the guy during the tsunami and Katrina. That all went away real fast though in the last few months.
What about the Tsunami? Was aiding those countries not something to be proud of?

It's not plagiarism. Deval Patrick has been working on the Obama campaign as a speechwriter. He and Obama are close friends and he dismissed the copycat charges as bogus. Obama should have began the speech by saying where it came from, but I would hardly call it plagiarism.
And as an Illinoisan, be assured that Obama has much more substance than you probably know. Certainly much more than Hillary, who is basically just a painted shell.

Point taken on Deval, and I agree he should have credited him. My problem is that for a canidate running on his ability to use rhetoric and oratory skills a slip up like tha is a major negative. And as a Mass guy I can tell you in Devals case he turned out to be just words. I've met him and he's a nice guy but he is not a good governor. Not that Romney was grea either.
Agreed on Hillary. But he voted present in Illinos? Present- not yes or no, on whether a porn shop should go near a school.

You see, that's just another Clinton smear. Obama voted "present" 100 times out of 4,400 total votes here in Illinois. And it was part of a coordinated strategy by Planned Parenthood to prevent anti-abortion legislation from passing without jeopardizing pro-choice candidates in vulnerable districts.
Planned Parenthood, btw, gives Obama a 100% rating.
And I consider the Deval thing to be a non-issue. If the guy who wrote the speech says it's not plagiarism, it's not plagiarism.

We all know that Obama is the MOST Liberal US Senator. What can you expect of his wife.
I dislike her comments since all Americans should be proud of our country. Of course, America is not perfect but compared to any other country, America is best there is.
It is possible, her comments could have be misinterpreted. If so, she should be more careful in her wording.
We all should not be suprised at her words since her husband loves to use words to incite.

Exactly. Apparently, however, this isn't the first time she has said it (according to CNN, they didn't play any clip though).
What matters though is where her husband stands. He has been none to not wear an American flag pin because he feels it is "false-patriotism". Apparently they are on the same page.

And he probably coppied Deval Patrick on that one. None of the major canidates have made the statements he did about it. Not wearing it is fine, citing the reason he did isn't.
Plus, there are plenty of Flags at McCain rallies. All I see at Obama rallies is CHANGE in bold print and a bunch of teenage girls who think they are at a concert.

So are you proud of America? Of the Clinton years? Of Jimmy Carter? Of Tip O'Neil. Plus, as an adult being proud of your country doesn't mean the time your in, but the history as whole.
Also, what about pride in where President Bush is right now? His trip to Africa where they love him for the billions of aid we have poured into that country. No pride in saving those kids? No pride in her husbands senate election? No pride in Clarence Thomas or Ruth Ginsburg making the court? None in Condi?

Eski502, 50 years ago, the United States had the highest standard of living in the world. Now, that title belongs to Norway and we're something like #47.
So no, overall, I haven't been proud of my country lately. When your lawn is not mowed, you should not be proud of it. When your appearance is a mess, you should not be proud of it. And when your country is going in the wrong direction, you should not be proud of it either. I'll be proud of America again when Obama is President.

Why? Agree with you we have problems but he isn't going to change things. Look at all the promises he's making- there is no way. All Obama does is talk good. What makes people think that will translate? Barack Obama being President would be a proud moment in a historic sense but why else?
