  • One of the nicest on the lakes. Very unique boat.

  • I like her bow. Very much! She really has a very nice profile!

  • It is a beauty for sure. On of my favorites. Thanks for looking. Jack...

  • awesome

  • J.A.W Iglehart Retired, He is the flag ship, always will be. The Alpena sucks! long live J.A.W.S! Signed Jimbo Sinnett

  • Is it a Duluth???

  • She is in Superior, WI, being used as a cement silo, just like her nearby sister, J.B. Ford.

  • We happen to be at Duluth and caught her coming in on her final voyage. We where wondering why they backed her into the berth. The several days later we where leaving, and the stack was covered, and they where pumping water out. Little did we know that was her last trip. Sad, real sad, but at least we got it. Thanks for looking. Jack...

  • We saw her on her last voyage too. We were returning from a trip to the MN point beach when we were bridged. This ol' beaut was going through the Duluth Ship Canal, saluted the bridge one last time, and then I saw it move to her berth, and I have not seen it move since. Then I went to boatnerd to see why. No wonder! She is a cement silo!

  • Too bad she's being used as a cement silo... Even the E. M. Ford already met her fate. :(

    About the J. B. Ford...

...She will never sail under own power again, she even has no pilothouse on!...

  • What? The J.B. Ford has a pilot house! (I think) It is just really tiny, because the J.B. Ford is so old.

  • I took a better look at the J. B. Ford and actually you're right. It's just because I've confused her with the William H. Donner. This one really got the pilothouse removed. J. B. Ford's pilothouse is still there, but once she isn't needed as a storage barge, she goes directly to the scrapyard. And other ships of her size and a bit larger will meet the same fate, including the J. A. W. Iglehart.

  • Before her, the S. T. Crapo was also long term laid up, and next to the Iglehart was the Paul H. Townsend. I don't think S. T. Crapo will sail again, but the others may have some luck. :)

  • @SobmiJ Nothing wrong with the Alpena!

  • Cool ship
