  • why must we get into a religious debate....... the point is: this has to be the most beautiful sound i have ever heard.

    Words cannot even describe.

  • Now I believe in angels!

  • The first soprano is Steven Mockel. Who truly knows who the second soprano is? Because this recording is included with a CD of Max Emanuel Cencic, some claim that this is he. The face, hair, and glasses do not look like Cencic, and the voice does not sound the same. So, who knows who this singer is?

  • Ave verum corpus, natum de Maria Virgine,[2] vere passum, immolatum in cruce pro homine, cuius latus perforatum fluxit aqua et sanguine:[3] esto nobis praegustatum in mortis examine.[4]

  • Sub tuum praesidium confugimus, confugimus Sancta Dei Genitrix. Sancta Dei Genitrix. Nostras deprecationes ne despicias in necessitatibus nostris, sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper, Virgo gloriosa et benedicta Sub tuum praesidium confugimus, confugimus Sancta Dei Genitrix Sancta Dei Genitrix.

  • Logically speaking and I know that there is not necessarily logic where faith is concerned, a child would not make that assumption unless it is pointed out to him. Pointing out something is "teaching" whether that thing is factual or not. One can be taught facts. One can be taught fancies. Whether thechild beieves what he is told depends on a number of factors such as age, intelligence, the culture and of course the chief anong these when older is the readiness to accept superstition as fact.

  • This is stunningly beautiful and as an ex chorister I know how much work goes into such perfection. However I am not a Roman Caholic and I really do not understand all this stuff about the host being exposed etc. After Mary (Bloody Mary to some for the depredations the committed against non RCs she committed) the rites of the church were simplified and there was more emphasis on Christ's teachings and less on ritualistic & superstitious aspect of worship.Much was lost but much was gained too.

  • As a lifelong atheist I have not the slightest idea what a 'Host' is, but in no way does that detract from my enjoyment of this sublime performance.

  • Exactly. I think it's the wafer that Roman Catholics are taught to believe that it turns into the flesh of Christ; but I am not absolutely sure. Music is one of the good side effects of religion. Lots of bad side effects too though.

  • Taught to believe? lol. No. It IS the Body of Christ. Literally. No teaching required. You either believe it or you don't.

  • @ Zantorc. Agreed. I think music has been the most significant and most beautiful contribution religion has ever made.

  • Do we know for sure that the host is consecrated? On the other hand, if it is the Real Presence of Jesus in the monstrance, true worship of God should be beautiful -- and this is beautiful.

  • No unconsecrated bread should be in the monstrance whatsoever. It is Eucharistic Adoration, the adoration of the True Flesh of Christ, which, without consecration, is impossible.

  • I could do without the German pronunciation of the Latin, but it is nicely done. Too bad they decided to have a concert in front of the Most Blessed Sacrament, however. When the Host is exposed, it should be a liturgical action, not a concert.

  • I aggre.

  • Magnificent performance of WSK thank you

  • ¡Extraordinario, simplemente perfecto!

  • Wunderbar!

  • Vienner Boys Choir !!!

  • AVE VERUM '' Ave verum Corpus natum de María Vírgine: Vere passum, immolátum in Cruce pro hómine. Cujus latus perforátum fluxit aqua et sánguine: Esto nobis praegustátum mortis in exámine.'' Amen.

  • Sub tuum praesídium confúgimus, Sancta Dei Génetrix.Nostras deprecatiónes ne despícias in necessitátibus, sed a perículis cunctis libera nos semper, Virgo gloriósa et benedícta.Amen

  • Wonderfully and respectfully done. It never ceases to amaze that the "holier than the Pope" Ultramontane right-winger crowd within Catholicism always show up to bitch and complain about something--see some of their comments, infra.

It is music praising what you guys believe in--can't you just enjoy it. There is NO profanation of the sacrament or Jesus. He's not that fragile.

  • brassspitoon....you are so delightfully articulate in your description of the "liturgy police". Thank you!!!

  • Very well said. If they went to Mass at a 1st century church, they'd complain about that too.

What they need to do is visit some churches of other demoninations, & they will see that God shows up on Sunday at all of them. If they can not discern the His Presence, they don't know him & they're just Pharisees. He likes all kinds of music, praise, & worship.

  • Eccellente

  • O menino solista da direita do vídeo tem o sol na voz. Nunca ouvi nada igual. Impressionante.

    Marco Aurélio Xavier - Brasil

  • Oh yes, wonderful. I have this dvd 'Mozart', again and again I see this great piece. Thank you for this moment.

  • The WSK says " cannot tell you why Sub tuum was synched. It is possible that it might have been cheaper to use an existing recording rather than make a new one, and the Möckel / Cencic recording is perfectly good, so there was no need to try and improve on that. It is very likely that Möckel and Cencic weren't around when the film was made, as they were in other choirs. The choir in the recording is Haydnchor, Möckel and Cencic were in Mozart- and Brucknerchor respectively."

  • OK, guys! For all those who've asked who is (or is not) singing "Sub tuum praesidum", here it is, straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. The boys in the video have asked not to be identified. No use asking! The voices are those of Steven Möckel (1st soprano) and Max Emanuel Cencic (2nd soprano).

  • Particularly, this music is perfect for God. Both, "Ave Verum Corpus" and "Sub tuum praesidium" should be listened and singed for all Catholics, and why not? This is music for all people of the earth, because no matter what you believe, this is truly beautiful.

Is there anyone (a Priest or a theologian) that could say something about it?

  • The Vienna boys' Choir are not mucking or laughing or doing anything wrong. They are Catholic and sing every Sunday at the royal chapel in Vienna, so I don't think that in case that it is forbidden to show the host in the TV (internet, movie or video) they had broken their own beliefs.

  • actually, the boys themselves are of all sorts of religions - the Vienna boys choir was one of the first (I think the first) that was NOT founded in relation to a religious institution.

They just sing the services in the royal chapel, but aren't required to follow the beliefs.

That being said, I don't think that the host was used disrespectfully.

  • Ok, this is not the first time that someone posts a comment like this. Just think, in so many movies we all have seen a host, and we don't care about if the host was consecrated or not.

Personally I don't think that it matter, but, if the host is used disrespectfully, it is an offence to the catholic people.

  • Sub tuum praesidium confugimus, Sancta Dei Genitrix. Nostras deprecationes ne despicias in necessitatibus nostris, sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper, Virgo gloriosa et benedicta. Domina nostra Mediatrix nostra, Advocata nostra, Tuo filio Nos reconcilia Nos recommenda Nos repraesenta
  • I am shocked. The Most Holy Sacrament is exposed in the monstrance right behind them, in a concert! Isn't that a horrible abuse? I don't even think it's legal. Could someone enlighten me?

  • The piece is a sacred motet. The place is a church. Is there a law I do not know of that forbids the Host being present when God is being praised? Some people will find "abuse" in almost anything these days! Listen to the music and don't latch on to the inconsequential.

  • No surprise here. The Austrian hierarchy is almost apostate, with music, art, horrible new churches and rampant liturgical abuse. Most Holy Sacrament?? What is that??? It is just a piece of bread, you know...SAD, SAD, SAD...

  • Excuse me, Sir, What are you referring to?

Your sentence "The Austrian hierarchy is almost apostate, with music, art, horrible new churches and rampant liturgical abuse." is quite unclear.

  • The song is all about the consecration of the Host - that's why they show the Host in the picture.

  • No, it's not. It's about the blessed Virgin Mary actually.

  • Thanks artgo2000 for your info. I've found the DVD. Many thanks.

I would also like to know where KweektheGreek got his information that it was actually Cencic and Mokel were singing in the vdo, altho showing two different boys.

And an answer to RottenPuppet: the highest note in the score is G-above middle-C; though I know it sounds high, a top G is an easy note for a boy to reach. Think about top-C or Top-E-flat!! Now, that's HIGH.

  • We know that the first soloist is not Cencic; but who are the two boys in this clip? They are quite brilliant. Does anyone know? And who is the conductor? It would be nice if we also knew the occasion. Does this come from a DVD, and what is the title and code number? And to answer both ornithogotus and Zerlina12, these boys are hard;y "little" - I would hazard a guess that both are probably 13 or 14.

  • Te DVD is in Amazon or other Internet Store. Just type: Vienna Boys Choir: Choral Works

    ASIN: B000B8ISOG

  • The first one solist is Bertil Guve, about the second, I don´t know, and the conductor is Christian Uwe Herrer, for me is the last great artistic director of Vienna boys Choir, under his conduction WS Knaben had many CD´s and this DVD.

  • Did anyone notice that Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar was present?????

  • I am glad somebody is noticing. In fact, Austria in the forefront of the liturgical abuse, that should be punished worse than the sexual abuse. There is no respect, no devotion, it is deplorable. Let us recover our Holy Tridentine Mass !!

  • Why are they wearing sailor suits?

  • You obviously just fell out of the sky and are new on our Planet.

Let me be the first to tell you that the Vienna Boy Choir has ALWEAYS worn 'sailor suits.'

    Welcome to Earth.

  • This music came straight from the angels in heaven.

  • sub tuum praesidium confugimus sancta dei genetrix. nostras deprecationes ne despicias in necessitatibus nostris sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper virgo gloriosa et benedicta. amen.

  • these are NOT the correct soloists!!! it is supposed to be max emmanuel cencic and stephen mockel!!

  • Do you even know the Vienna boys choir?

They are very famous and have a long history。They sing like girls, so its very hard to be in it. These boys voices havent broken yet.

  • Sing like girls? No they dont sing like girls they sing like small boys are able to sing before they reach puberty.

  • Perfection! Apart from being one of the most beautiful musical compositions ever the soloists and thd the choir are staunning.

  • Oh...My...Goodness..... This is a truly remarkable performance! I have been a tenor in VERY good professional choirs. I have always been pleased to perform with boys choirs throughout the years. Thank you for posting! Most remarkable. =)

  • Omg, I can't even sing that high.. I don't even think the sopranist from our choir can sing that high.. O.k, maybe.. donkow.

  • anyways, probably the best version of Carols of the Bells on youtube.

  • BRAVISSIMI!

  • ANGLELS FROM HEAVEN. TRULY ANGELIC

  • The two boys in this video did not actually perform the piece. It was sung by Max Emanuel Cencic and Steven Mockel. Why the substitution? I don't know. Maybe Cencic and Mockel were no longer with the choir when the video was made. This particular recording can be found on the CD "Exultate, Jubilate".

  • Remember to stay on after the duet to hear probably the best "Ave Verum Corpus" sung by any choir anywhere. Congratulations - along with a sigh that this sound is no longer heard by this choir. Maybe they will change back to excellence - keep hope alive!

  • Yes, I think you must be right! That Ave Verum is wonderful. I add my prayers to yours for a return to the choir's former excellence. The world needs it!

  • Sub tuum praesidium is a beautiful duet, and here sung by two soloists from the "good old days" of the Wiener Sängerknaben with Uwe Christian Harrer conducting.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • when was this performed, and what are the names of the two choristers? thanks.

  • The WSK almost never give the names of individual soloists.

  • thank you for the info, i won't ask again in respect to WSK.

  • I take that back! Go to the WSK website (there is an English version), open the guestbook and type in your question. Tina has been naming past soloists lately!

  • Beautiful this is great thanks
