Super palying mdf....I am a bluegrass bass player, upright that is lol and I have been tossed into clasic rock on a fender jazz lol....I am left handed but play right handed geeeeeeeeeesh whats wrong with this pic got one leg and am 61 years old. Learning this is a chalange and I love it ...keep up the great work :)
Check out my bass arrangement of John Lennon's Imagine on my channel. I tried to keep it simple like the song should be. I took a chordal approach and applied vocals. Thanks!
i have covered this song and i was that musch close to upload it here on youtube. but after hearing your cover man i am not, i SUCK, i will redo it. you made me sound like shit, thank you being there dude :)
@musicnerfngames It's the right way, he got this by ear, and I play almost like him too (difference is I play the 7th fret on G instead of 12th on D - it's the same notes), the way your thinking about is playing the scale on open E, that's only for lead guitar, just listen to the song - it doesn't sound so deep :p
@TeamMastaPr2 Yeah it can also very from which bass you have to which fret you play the notes, turning you treble down doesn't always make it sound pristine on the higher frets. I don't think it would be bad idea to play it on open E either though, I've always though of Mr McCartney as a frustrated lead guitarist. I personally would never touch that scale though, I would probably domino the strings into a fuckin awful sound
You have nice long fingers to play the bass. I am a bass player myself but don't have fingers like yours. I play this song further up the neck but you are so graceful with those long fingers.
That's much better and easier than the way I learned from a different Y/T video. Thanks for straightening me out. It's a bitch because I'm missing my pinky in my Chording hand so the simpler the better. I was going to turn everything around and learn to play lefty but I had already too much time invested in overcoming the pinky problem.
cool.I am teaching myself the bass currently, and I am actually left handed like Paul, but I play the bass set up with the E string on the bottom of the neck.I have the nut and strings switched out. However,i have a long way to go,to be a good bass player.I appreciate your video of this song.I hope to watch this one and many others of yours to learn how to play.Oh by the way,my bass is a copy of Paul's Hofner violin bass.Same color and a left handed bass, but restrung as a right handed bass.
@thecoolestdad Great inspiration for any bassist! If you think about it, many accomplished guitarists such as yourself (including bassists) are similarly left handed - Paul McCartney, of course, but also Tony Iommi, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain ...
@eggmangoogoogoojoob Yeah you're right.I have seen video clips of Hendrix and from some angles it appears that his strings are all upsidedown, putting the E string on the bottom just like I play.So that would put his smaller strings on top,but then I've seen pics or clips where it appears his strings are setup properly. So I really do not know which way he played, except that he was left handed. As for Cobain I don't know how he strung his guitar.A guy playing with Clapton strings are upsidedown too
So right now I have a crestwood bass. I dont know wich model it is but I want to get a Hoffner bass. I can only buy the Hoffner Icon B right now because of the price.
I want to play more music like Beatles style and I want to know if it will sound better on the Hofner than on my Crestwood.
Nice Lakie! For the time being I have the 44-01, because it's what I can afford. But someday maybe I can upgrade to this. 44-02 right? Sounds amazing. Great cover too!
i think bass is the more psychedelic sound, iv been listining to all the bass in Beatles songs and my god, the way it compliments (or more, MAKES) each and every song is amazing :)
t5hose are some groovy fingers uv got im going to save up for a bass XD
I think I commented on you once before. First off, your tone is PERFECT considering you are not playing a '63 Hofner. Second, even though your playing in note perfect and extremely effortless, you are not playing it the same way Paul did. Your way is actually less "clunky" looking. Paul actually played the bass line the way you started it; 7th fret E note on the A string, and maintained that throughout the song, at least in the live concerts I saw. Tokyo however, he played a lot of single notes.
You'll feel much better about yourself if you figure it out on your own than if you use tabs (which may be wrong anyway) Just try listening to it and you'll figure it out
I went to barnes and nobel books store and bought the white pages by hal and leonard and it wasnt structured like that it had me moving up and down the fret board like 6 steps to play that riff. it helps to know what key the song is in and figure out the best route to play with minimal movement.
Ye if i were you i would learn a finger tehnique called the walking pitch squeal you use your index finger to push your pinky through the strings. It gives you an amazing sound and hendrix even used it.
P.S. the thumb over the top E method used by McCartney is the difference, but I think this fretting is closest to footage of the bass on this song.
rogerscottq 1 week ago
I think this version of the bass is only the second of all the covers out there I'd say reproduce the original applied by McCartney.
