great playing. What instrument are you using there? and how do you figure out how to programme the sound effects that it sounds like in the film?

Thanks! It's a combination of several instruments. I've got double basses, staccato violins and cellos, french horns etc. The instruments comes from a virtual symphonic orchestra sampler that is called Miroslav Philharmonik. To make it sound real, you need to know a little about orchestration, and how a orchestra is put together :)

The learning to play by ear just comes by itself. I try to pick out the foundations of the piece, picking out the bass/groundtone. Melody comes from trying a couple of times on the keys. I haven't read much about orchestration, I found info on the net mostly. But I listen ALOT to classical and filmscores and try to identify instruments, and how they are used in the score. Check out the channel orchestrationonline her on youtube, he has many good tips ;)
