  • end of an era and the start of a new old era

  • JAY LENO DOESN'T EVEN LIKE TO HOST ANYMORE. IT'S OBVIOUS. HE JUST "PHONES IT IN". HE'S GOT ENOUGH MONEY, SO SHOULD JUST RETIRE.

  • Team Letterman! ..I love Coco too though. Leno's a tool.

  • I love jay leno and conan o'brien...both

  • The beginning of the end.

  • Dude flicked off the camera at 0:23 lol

  • "You'll be back in the blink of an eye"

  • On Conan's last Tonight Show they should have had him hand it back to Jay.

  • what a bastard.

  • HAHA I died laughing and I had only seen 7 seconds of this video!

  • Wah! Wah! Wah! its done, its over! lets get over it!

  • The Jay Leno Show sabotaged the affiliates' local 11pm newscasts, which in turn screwed over Conan's ratings.

Besides, Jay himself was lagging during his original run until Hugh Grant guested during the Divine Brown scandal.

  • Before Conan made the move to The Tonights Show, his fans were told the demographics at that hour wouldn't enable him to attain what Leno had the show at. The fans were confident his brand of humor would surely draw new viewers in.

So Conan fails to draw new viewers in and his fans now say it's Jays fault, due to his being a poor lead-in.

Demographics did Conan in. And, if all of his fans who watched him at the later hour watched at 11:35, he might still be the show's host now.

  • well thats just funny team coco

  • fuck lenno.

  • aside from the campaing stuff, my latest video gives a pretty accurate take on the whole Conan Vs Leno issue. I think we've completely missed the point. Critique my video if you like, I'd be much obliged.

  • Jay Leno's new theme song ~ The o'jays-back stabbers

  • Why can't people like Leno and Conan I mean Conan is clearly better but theres no reason to hate either one

  • @pensteel

Why does Leno's show tanking have anything to do with Conan on TTS? Are you saying that Conan's late night viewers were either small in number or else they didn't feel like tuning in at 11:35? Or maybe both? Which is it then?

If many of Leno's viewers stopped watching TTS after Leno left, what makes you think that if Leno didn't have his 10:00 show that his old viewers would suddenly watch Conan en masse?

Many still probably wouldn't have watched Conan. What's your excuse then?

  • PHAIL VIDEO

  • i watch conan.every nite

  • So what you are saying is, Conan's fans were not willing to watch him an hour earlier.

It stuns me to see how many people on these sites jump on the Conan band wagon after he gets canned to show there support, well if you truly liked Conan Obrien then you should have watched the show.

So all of you that are bitching and whining, you are just as much to blame as Leno.

Oh, it's true. IT'S DAMN TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • CONANDO should Host the OSCAR's !!

  • After watching, now I wonder if Billy Crystal is going to be Jay's first guest on Tonight Show 2.0? Starting the parade of the old and the decrepit.

    "Bloodless transition"? Yeah, right!!

  • what bullshit. I'm so let down by NBC and Leno. I watched every single episode of Conan's Tonight Show and I loved it. Conan should follow Stewart and Colbert on Comedy Central. That would kick ass. TEAM CONAN!!!!!!

  • Is this a BIG joke or what?

  • TV history indeed.

  • remember kids you can do anything you want to........as long as jay leno doesn't want to do it too

  • @xXCuBaXxXx "-Conan O'Brien

  • WHO CARES ? ! he never retired !!!!!

    he just backstabed conan

  • SIKE!

Like many others, I vow to NEVER watch the Tonight Show again, especially while Jay Leno the backstabbing malcontent is the host.

  • ummmmmm, nevermind........

  • All you idiots who think Jay is at fault need to wake the fuck up. Conan quit. He wasn't forced out. NBC asked him to move the show back 30 minutes. He said "no." Plain and simple. Conan could still be the host of The Tonight Show, but instead, he chose to leave. Why? Because of principle? Bullshit.

  • If you think moving the tonight show to a 12:05am time slot isn't a screw job, then you need to wake, too. Think about it. Who's gonna stay up that late? Certainly not as many as the earlier time slot. And to do that to the Tonight Show.. jesus man. NBC can drop dead.

  • @ "preble"...who's gonna stay up that late? How about Conan's core audience, the 18-35 year-olds? Conan would have done just fine at 12:05.

  • @ emantabrizi, at 12:05 it's no longer "The Tonight Show", it's the fucking "Tomorrow Show". Jay Leno had his 17 years and couldn't let go, had his butt buddies on the NBC board screw Conan in the ass because Jay couldn't cut it in prime time. Plain and simple. Get your facts straight.

  • @ "cathasaigh"...You call those "facts?" Jay and his "butt-buddies?" LOL! The decision to put Jay in primetime was NBC's. Their experiment failed. Plain and simple. Get your facts straight.

  • leno probably the current biggest douchebag on this planet, shit he can even be the word douchebag's poster boy, he looks every bit of it

  • fuck you leno fuck you

  • Jay Leno took back the Tonight Show. Conan was betrayed. I will NEVER watch the Tonight Show ever again.

  • FUCK YOU NBC!

  • god Jay is so fucking unfunny

  • Leno sucks and always did even when he did have the tonight show. Hey let's blame his lame jokes on his black bass player. But in the interim, Conon a brilliant writer and comedian who can improvise at a moments notice is being forced to retire, not only retire but forced to not to any talk shows for several years with any other company. Give me a break, Quentin Tarantino and Robin Williams and a few others want this man, Conan, go for it Conon and keep; spending NBC's money

  • Ya that idiot Leno has handed over the tonight show and is now reclaiming it. He was lousy at it and now is ruining it for someone who is better Conan, Go Conan Go

  • leno is a dick

  • ohhhhh yeahh it was his last day alright!! stupid idiot!

  • I always thought Leno kind of sucked, but I'd tune in every now and again. But after this I am NEVER watching Leno again. I hope Conan gets back on late night soon.

  • 2:00 "You'll be back in the blink of an eye."

    heh, interesting...

  • Just goes to show .... any "normal" person who doesnt live 12 feet up their own ass would be too embarassed to retun to a show after a miserable failure. Jay has no shame........ Conan didnt want to bump Jimmy and shows his charachter saying "it wasnt fair to him" But oh no... not Leno... not by the hairs on his chinny chin gynormous chin... But Blahh Whatever.... He sucks in any time slot..... cant wait for Conan's new show...

  • @xxlupilloxx wonderfully put!

  • Thats fucked up mang!

  • This entire thing was a fraud perpetuated upon the American populace by NBC.

  • conan's show failed because it's lead in was the jay leno show. leno is going to succeed because his lead in will be actual good tv. how fair is that?

  • no conan no cry

  • Watch my bro's FUNNY Conan SONG! Search: conan.m4v

  • IM WITH COCO

  • Watching this only reminds me of how little class Jay Leno has. Go away, Jay. Play at Vegas to your senior citizen fanbase, and stop boring us to death on television.

  • Jay should retire, or take the 12:35 slot!

Isn't anyone else SICK of Leno?????

  • I AM SICK OF LENO.

  • fire those STUIPID NBC executives please for putting leno and conan in such a shitty position and fucking up the network

  • @AzureSky317

All Jay has to do is RETIRE already!

    Jay, retire already!

  • I think bush should take over the tonight show. That guy is funny without even trying. Oh yeah and cancel carson daly's show, that guy is a joke.

  • NBC= Nothing But Cocksuckers

  • so true

  • Billy Crystal is so annoying.

  • wow ,, this is the big news lately ??? smash your tele,,

  • Leno is just a d-bag.

Either way,Conan still pockets alot of green.

So he can go anywhere.Unless he signs the contract that NBC wanted him to sign.

  • Oh yes.... blame the new guy who only hosted the show for 7 FUCKING MONTHS. You expect a brand new host to hold as much ratings as the douchebag(jay leno) who've been hosting the show for over 16 years? You're a fucking ignorant moron. Hell... you sound like a Leno cocksucker too. Fuck you and FUCK JAY LENO.

  • @thi711

Hey douchebag, when Leno took over the Tonight Show that was his first major TV gig wasn't it? Took him 3 years to get past Letterman, but before that he wasn't doing horribly ratings wise either.

How is it that Conan who had his late show for 16 YEARS and was well known before TTS, still did crappy in the ratings after he took over? 16 years on TV yet he still couldn't establish himself on TTS?

He should've got longer to prove himself, but don't blame Leno for Conan failing so far.

  • @CATERPILLARD9L Because when Carson quit hosting the show, he got his own show that all his previous fans could watch, right? The fact Leno has his own show still means that a bunch people who might have tuned in to watch Conan have no interest to any more since they can watch the man they've been watching for over 17 years at an earlier time.

Leno is tanking so hard at 10 that all the affiliates are complaining to get him out of the time spot because it's effecting their local news broadcasts.

  • Leno was drawing over 6 million viewers at 10pm which is not bad, Leno was moved from the tonight show to 10pm because NBC wanted to save money, NBC could put 5 episodes of Leno on a week at 1/5th the cost of doing 5 separate programs. It all comes down to money, that is what life is about, money. NBC feels Leno can make them more money than O'Brien can.

It's been stated on different entertainment programs that O'brien was doing poorly, so NBC made a buisness move.

  • The whole reason this is even occuring is because local affiliates 11pm news shows are hurting. Without a strong lead in show, their ratings suffer as a result, and their ratings are drastically lower with Leno on at 10.

The reason they're moving Leno back up is because they didn't want him taking any offers to go to abc/cbs and host a show if they drop his show because they don't like competition. They just didn't think Conan would react the way he did and thus this whole mess is the outcome.

  • @CATERPILLARD9L

But you have to look at the whole picture. First off, Conan had a different fan base. It's same to assume that younger adults/teens stayed up long enough to enjoy Conan, and adults/older adults were only up long enough to tune in to Jay Leno. So the one hour difference in time makes a big difference in audience. So... he did have a fanbase, and I'm sure that fan base followed. But the adults/older adults that never tuned in at 12:30 didn't follow, but given more time

  • snipe Leno down...end of story

  • @gaae2000

    Okay, terrorist.

  • I feel bad for those people who waited for tickets to Jay's LAST show. What a waste of time that was, if he's taking Conan's place again.

  • Conan never got a chance to get an audience. It took Jay years to get where he was at in the 90s and 00s. It took Conan a few years to get an audience for when he was on Late Night.

  • If you jerks cant shut up then get off here

  • Conan would still be the host if people were watching him. Fact is as the tonight show host, Conan was not drawing the ratings, Leterman was kicking his ass each night.

So what is NBC suppose to do? Continuing with Conan and doing poorly or going back to Leno with proven success.

As Donalt Trump said " It was doomed to fail right from the start, NBC never should have taken Leno away from the tonight show".

Weather people like it or not, it is the truth.

  • Conan wasnt doing poorly, the problem was Leno.

  • Conan's last show ratings were over 5 million people. That beat out everyone else that night 5 times over.

Conan's viewers are mostly young people who don't have neilson boxes and don't watch TV live anymore. Mostly baby boomers and older generations do that. We watch him on Hulu and through downloads. If NBC can't figure out a way to track those viewers, then it's their fault for not keeping up.

  • @Thwarted

Yeah it took Conan getting cancelled to get that many viewers. And I don't buy that millions of ppl were watching Conan online rather than on TV.

Unless you're telling me millions of ppl don't have TVs, why in the hell would you rather watch Conan online than on TV?? I know I much prefer watching him on my 50" plasma in HD than on a shit small screen.

Conan was on TV for 16 years and he had plenty of time to build audience like Letterman did, but he wasn't able to apparently.

  • DEATH TO LENO

  • Jay Leno the backstabber. The spoiled brat wants more money, whaaaa. He only has 500 cars and he wants 1000!

Greedy little shit. Tie a rope to the top of the Empire State Building, tie the other end to your neck and jump.

  • can u please explain to me this whole controversy over the the time slot and why the specific time (i think its 11:30) is so coveted?? I have never stayed up to watch these shows so I have no knowledge of the history of rivalries or why there is so much uproar over which time a show airs.

  • @millennialgirl The Tonight Show has been aired at 11:30 (ET) for sixty years. That time slot gets much of the audience who watches the nightly local news in the previous time slot. Also, moving it to 12:05 (ET) would move it into the next day, negating the whole point of calling it the "Tonight" Show.

  • oh ok thanks

  • @millennialgirl well u kind of just explained it yourself. you don't stay up that late to watch the show, the other slot is 12:05 which has an even smaller viewing audience. The person with the earlier showing will have a bigger audience which gets better ratings and so-on and so on

  • but doesn't jay want a later time slot? he is at 10pm now right?

  • Lol. Conan needs to stay. And first Leno cheats Letterman now Conan? What the hell is his problem?

  • @ThwartedVillainy

Are you saying Leno fired Conan? Because I thought NBC was calling the shots and they made the decision to let Conan go.

Also if you're so outraged that Conan is gone, why didn't you watch him every night and get your friends and your friend's friends and all your relatives to watch Conan every night to support him?

Apparently there's not enough Conan fans out there or else they were too busy doing other shit to tune in to watch Coco and so he's gone and NOW you complain?

  • Jay Leno didn't fire Conan you dumbshit, he doesn't have that power. HOWEVER Jay Leno is a scheming douchebag and succeeded in pushing Conan's Tonight Show back to 12:05... which he KNOWS will piss Conan the fuck off and forces him to quit. That's WHY.

  • Are you an NBC exec? No? Then how the fuck did you know Leno was behind everything?

Here's the thing, if Conan did even relatively well in ratings, but Leno was tanking on his show, do you really think NBC would still take Leno over Conan? Fuck no. They would've canned Leno and stuck with Conan.

Fact is, is that NBC wanted to keep both guys, but when both were tanking, they chose to go with Leno. Show me proof that it was Leno who forced NBC's hand and told them he wanted the 11:30 timeslot?

  • Leno could have retired....since he promised the show to Conan 5 years earlier....no he's taking it back. Leno did very bad for 3 years!!!! Conan just been there 7 months building an audience (despite Leno's crappy 10pm show).

  • Yeah Leno promised Conan TTS 5 years ago, BUT he almost 100% did it because NBC ordered him to, not because he was ready to retire. Jay's a workaholic and he would've kept on going if it were his decision. But NBC didn't want to lose Conan, so Leno had no choice.

Also if Leno wants to keep working or 'unretire' why stop him? Just like Kim Clijsters and Justin Henin decided to unretire in tennis, why can't Jay do it, especially when he was likely forced out in the first place?

  • Sorry, but if you remember what Jay Leno said is that he couldn't do it anymore after turning 60 and he was doing that (passing it to Conan) because wanted to avoid the drama of the early 90s with Letterman. NBC didn't give Conan a chance like they did with Leno who was doing really for years at the beginning. Well, Henin and Clijsters don't unretire at the expense of screwing people around them.

  • I mean to say, Leno was doing worse than Conan at the beginning, but they let him continue. It takes time to build up a new audience. If Jay Leno retired for real (as he promised), nothing would have happened. Can't trust people like that.

  • @williamfgc

Yes I know Leno said that before, but again he was forced out. The guy loves to work, but NBC wanted to keep Conan, so the compromise was to move Leno up and Conan gets TTS. I don't believe for a second that he wanted to leave TTS in the first place.

Also Conan had his late show for 16 years! So he was pretty well known when he took over TTS, while Leno didn't have that advantage when he took over TTS. Yet Leno did well in ratings while Conan even with recognition went downhill.

  • a few things....they are not puppets and Conan just probed it by taking a personal decision against NBC stupidity. He would hurt Jimmy Fallon's show and TTS won't be the "Tonight" show anymore. Conan had a later show for 16 years, that's why he was doing better than Leno when he started, but he needed to gain the audience that went to sleep after TTS with Leno, and new viewers. Like Jimmy Kimmel told him, Leno has cars and enough money already...they have families.

  • You don't think Conan or Jimmy Fallon or Carson Daly and their staff members love to work as well??? At least Conan kept his word and left after NBC stupid moves. Leno never retired BTW.

  • I didn't watch him because I'm in Japan. Anyways, his audience was younger than Leno's. My generation doesn't watch TV live anymore. We watch our television on our computers or we Tivo it. Conan's ratings appeared low because those who have Neilson boxes and watch TV live without recording it didn't watch Conan. Who's the last 20-something you met who had a Neilson box on their TV?

Conan's audience was much bigger, it was just way harder to track them because they watch on hulu or downloads.

  • @Thwarted

According to wiki, Conan's final Late Show season drew barely 2 million viewers nightly. So even after 16 years, Conan wasn't a massive draw, so what makes you think he draw better if Leno wasn't around?

Also if many of Conan's viewers didn't watch him at 11:35 and instead watched him elsewhere, then you let him down. Because more viewers = more revenue for NBC = Conan stays. So if young ppl didn't watch Conan at 11:35, then you failed him. Plain and simple.

  • Ummm, "you failed him". It's a TV show, not a religion.

NBC's job is to find talent that people want to watch and then put ads between the breaks so people see the ads along with the talent. Conan was definitely someone people wanted to watch. NBC failed to find a way to track Conan's viewers so they could then sell advertising time.

His last show, where all his viewers tuned in live, had an audience of more than 5 million people. That destroyed typical late night ratings twice over.

  • Leno was averaging about 5 million viewers EVERY NIGHT when he was on TTS and you're telling me Conan was doing fine??

Again I don't buy the 'Conan had a massive online following' shit. Unless of course you can provide concrete stats to prove it.

  • lol, no he didn't. Where the hell did you get those ratings from? Your ass? Leno didn't draw 5 million per night, he was struggling to get 1 million.

Stop making things up because you, for whatever reason, are taking the anger at Jay Leno personally. You don't believe that Conan had a massive online following? Obviously you're not a member of any generation born after 1975. Did you miss the facebook group with almost 1 million members? Did you miss the rallies all across the country?

    Troll.

  • @Thwarted

Leno was drawing an average of 5 million viewers nightly on TTS, which is why he was beating Letterman. Sheesh.

Again I'm 35, which means I was BORN IN 1975, are you saying I don't count? And again it doesn't matter if Conan had BILLIONS of online members if its not making NBC money.

Fact is that his ratings were sliding for months yet not enough of these millions of fans of Conan thought to watch him on TV where it mattered and support him. Now you whine that he's gone. Nice.

  • TY, you have all the intelligence of an NBC Exec which can easily keep a 4th place network in 4th place. Like anyone should trust your half-assed opinion on ratings!

  • His final show was 7 million asshole.

Conan O'brian fans have jobs and are busy paying for your Social Security Checks.

Also you dumb bastards when Leno was on Conan was on right afterwards, the only reason I sat through Jay Lenos show is to watch Conan Later.. because without him, We would just have watched Letterman. Now Leno has pissed off that entire ratings Bloc so good luck asshole, hurry up and die.

  • Hey douchebag, whoop dee fucking doo that Conan got 7 million on his last show. If he averaged 7 mill nightly beforehand, he wouldn't have gotten canned.

Also stop FUCKING ASSUMING that all Leno viewers are old. I'm 35 and I grew up with BOTH Leno AND Conan.

Also are you watching TV in the fucking stoneage? Because you do know there's a magical thing called a REMOTE that allows you to change channels so that you could skip Leno and tune in for Conan afterwards right? Dumbass.

  • LOL fuck you asshole the only reason Leno is popular is the army of AARP retirement home viewers with nothing better to do and they probably dont have HBO, poor bastards.

The only reason they like Big Chin is because he reminds them of Jackie Gleason when they were kids in the fucking 1950. Accept that Gleason was actually funny.

And I wouldn't have to change the Channel if Richard Nixon's Silent Majority of almost dead people would stop spamming the Nielsen Ratings button .

  • Faelsun,

Dickhead lets just say you're right, here's the thing: At least old ppl are RELIABLE and they gave Leno his ratings. While Conan's supposed huge young fanbase did NOTHING to support him until it was too late.

So all those months you saw Conan's mediocre ratings, how come none of you mad young ppl watched him more on TV?

And you're absolutely STUPID if you're too much of a MORON to just change the channel and watch something else. This is why America's youth makes me sad these days

  • welcome to the new america. the roots of the world evil are now set and cannot be stopped. i cannot believe how much I have realized that america is killing the world. I grew up thinking we were amazing but then, reality set in.

  • Mad young people, I'm 32 stupid ass.

I have been the victim of Lame ass Jay Leno for all this time. Letterman would have been better but they settled on Steroid Jaws.

And Conan was There during all that time. Letterman beat the hell out of Leno for two years and wasn't beaten by Jay he was beaten by NBC primetime must see TV. Law and Order is the Reason Leno had good ratings and people clicking on their TV about 15 minutes before Leno was over to watch Conan. Leno has Neither of those now.

  • Dude, look at demographics. Leno viewers ARE old. His comedy is for old people who don't like their beliefs challenged, offended, or examined. That's why all his jokes are pandering, boring, and from the 90's. LOL, CLINTON BLOWJOB JOKES ARE STILL SO FUNNY! IT'S ONLY BEEN 10 YEARS!

Plus, Leno doesn't respect the craft or other comedians. He doesn't deserve the Tonight Show. When Conan took over, I was thinking, "finally, I can actually WATCH the tonight show and be a part of the legacy."

  • Except we all watched him online, and that doesn't count. We are the 'cool, hip, young' people, and that means we don't just watch television.

  • In actuality. Both Leno and Conan's Audience "Failed to tune in". Leno is the one who was canceled.

  • @JDubs878, you notice how YOUR ratings are the worst here. Maybe you should take your own advice and SHUT THE FUCK UP.

These Leno-lovers and their twisting of facts are nauseating.

  • Leno had a better track record? I seem to remember that Leno's first two years of the Tonight Show were crappy (and Leno's only competition in year 1 was Arsenio). If Leno were that good, then Conan would've never got the Tonight Show in the first place.

This is all about Leno scheming his way to the top (AGAIN) and NBC suits lacking any long-term vision (AGAIN). Great move hitching your success to a senior cit.

When you're done tonguing Leno's ass as he's tongiung NBC's ass, let us know.

  • Like I said before, are you forgetting that Conan was on network TV for 16 FUCKING YEARS?? The man had his late show for 16 years and you're saying that because he moved up an hour he has to completely rebuild his audience from scratch?

If he was that popular shouldn't he have a great following already? When Leno took over, did he have 16 years to build an audience?

And how did Leno scheme when it was NBC who decided to keep both of them and then later on let Conan go?

  • As for ratings, have you seen NBC's ratings on pretty much ALL of their shows? Does NBC really want to play the ratings card? A decade ago, CBS was NBC's bitch, today, it's the other way around.

  • @ace11

Speaking of ratings, after the first few days back on TTS, Leno's audience is averaging 5+ million vs. Letterman's 3.7.

So after getting the show back right away Leno is doing MILES better than Conan has been doing for most of his tenure on TTS and is back to beating Letterman handily.

Blame it on all the old ppl all you want, but the fact is Leno is back to his old numbers that Conan hardly ever reached during his time there.

  • Looks like Leno had a better lead-in (i.e. not Leno).

  • BTW, how does Jay Leno's ass taste JDubs878? It seems you've gone above and beyond just servicing him orally.

  • @ace

I'm sure it tastes better than all the extreme teabagging you and your fanboys have been giving Conan since day one.

Why are you Conan boys so bitter and cynical (precisely what Conan said he HATED)? Yes he didn't get a fair shake on TTS, but the fact is he wasn't drawing well. I watched Conan for most of his run on the TTS, while I hardly ever watched Leno because of his timeslot.

So apparently I supported Conan MUCH MORE than supposed Conan fans, yet you think I'm all about Leno? Nice

  • Wow, way to almost steal my joke and use it for yourself. You've definitely got Jay's DNA in you (and you know, not from the usual way you get it).

Now explain why late local news was drastically losing ratings when Jay was at 10 (Hint: you don't even need to mention Conan to answer the question).

  • @ace, Stealing 'your' joke?? Like we both didn't hear it from Shaq first? How stupid do you think ppl are to believe that that line is an original from you? Man you're something. LOL

To answer, primetime shows from other networks were beating Leno's show. Fine. But I don't buy that 'lead-in' BULLSHIT. The only thing I watch with any consistency is TTS and I rarely tune into NBC for anything else.

I tuned into Conan when he was on and I'm doing the same with Jay now, no lead in required.

  • @ace

The simple answer is that at 10pm Leno's show was competing against too much other programming.

Myself for example, at that time I'm either still watching sports or something else and I didn't tune into his show. How hard is that to understand?

OTOH why don't you explain why Conan who's been on NBC for 16 YEARS can't build a big enough audience that would follow him an hour earlier to TTS? If he was completely new, then its different, but he's been on TV like FOREVER! Explain that?

  • Simple, it takes time to build that audience. NBC knows it and Conan knows it. Plus, the 1130 audience is not the same as the 1230 one. NBC knew it took time to build it and yet, like the penny-pinching swine they are, changed their plans.

Look at Jay, he needed 2 years to build his audience and his only competition at the time was Arsenio.

Now can you answer the fuckin' question or do you want me to do it for you?

  • @ace

Again that's SO FUCKING BULLSHIT! Seriously he's been on TV for 16 FUCKING YEARS and just because he moves up an hour, you have to 'rebuild' an entire following? That doesn't make sense!

If there are many loyal fans of Conan, how hard is it for them to simply watch him at 11:35 instead of 12:35? An hour earlier at that time of night isn't going to make that much of a difference. If Letterman could do it when he left NBC for CBS then why can't Conan??

  • @JDubs878 Maybe his awful lead-in, The Jay Leno Show, had something to do with it as well?

  • heart broken, evil evil stuff

  • Fuck You Jay Leno!!! Fuck you in your stupid chin!

  • Wahhhh! Wahhh! My name is Jay Leno and I want my show back! WaAaaaA!!! MORE CARS! MORE CARS!

  • Put Leno on MSNBC opposite Bill O'Reilly and Glen Beck instead of the subsidized crap they have on there now. The ratings can only go up.

  • Barf. Leno doesn't have an opinion on anything other than Leno and his opinion of himself is pretty high.

  • fuck you leno

  • Jay Leno is an asshole! What a fucken baby, if he gets the tonight show back i will never watch nbc again!

  • Leno is a corny fuck i will never watch NBC if conan leaves

  • Jay Leno is a no good, low life, sack of shit. I wish he dies!!!!

  • Could there be a conspiracy? Leno stole Letterman the Tonight show. Then David got the Late Late show, which he later pass it on to Conan. Then Conan took revenge by stealing the Tonight Show from Leno. And now this?

Is this an undeclared war between the italians and the irish peole?

  • Or just Leno and everyone who isn't Leno.

  • Leno stole the Tonight Show from Letterman and now he's done it again from Conan. Two people waaaay funnier than Leno.

  • Leno fans are unfun old people. Fucking old people.

  • fuck off you obore.ld

  • The comments of Conan's adoring fans on this board simply indicate the depths he stoops to to get laughs. And for someone who talks of being Harvard-educated, he certainly didn't take into account The Tonight Show demographics, which his viewers aren't a part of and which would ultimately result in the show being knocked out of the top spot in the ratings.

  • @carnaco2 Depths Conan takes for laughs? You realize that Leno's sole source of entertainment is portraying others as complete morons on his Jay-Walking and newspaper-clippings segments, right?

Jay Leno just couldn't pass the torch to Conan. He agreed to retire about six years ago, and now he's coming back to undermine Conan. Remember, it took Jay three years to beat Letterman's ratings. I honestly think Conan could've done it in less time, had Leno given him the chance.

  • In order for Conan to improve on his already meager ratings, he would have to change the style that has won over the younger viewers. In doing that, he may gain some of the older viewers, but his younger viewers would most certainly become disillusioned and gradually drift away. He can't expect to stay zany AND have The Tonight Show on top. The best thing for the show is for Conan to step aside.

  • @carnaco2 -

As this plays out, Conan is in a win-win situation. If he stays it's obvious he keeps his slot. BUT Conan has an iron-clad contract that will keep him rich either way.

And he can go to FOX or wherever, NBC is gonna be changing Leno's diaper for many years-they have a knack for attracting no talent pricks to their network.

  • Money in exchange for a years-long stint at the helm of The Tonight Show doesn't make for a bright spot on one's resume. His brief tenure there is all he can point to connecting him with the show. And that with low ratings, to boot. He's better off elsewhere.

  • Money certainly helps while he looks for another network.

  • Actually, his Tonight Show is completely different from his Late Night show. He's a lot more toned down... more vanilla plain like Jay. Conan was successful because he was allowed to be edgier on Late Night. Leno's lame old audience can't accept change. It doesn't matter anyway. Conan can walk away with money or keep the Tonight Show but everyone now hates Leno. Conan definitely has the upper hand.

  • I meant these replies at carnaco2.

  • Leno and Conan stink big time! I believe NBC has put it's goose in the oven and set it to Broil-basically cooking their own goose-fast.

Cable offers so many more choices than network TV, NBC isn't the same as it was in the 1970's and 80's.
