This is MASSIVE!!! And to hear him speak French is such a treat! Such a lovely French Canadian accent...makes me cold French heart melt! Does anyone know what the event was? So hard to believe it was already 12 years ago though...Dues South is such a special show. I'll love it till I die...
I think i am viewer 10,000! And i had to laugh at the mountie falling down the steps. and i don't know why there is a mountie wearing his uniform incorectly either. and when they get a close up of paul i think it's hilarious to see the stereotype mountie with the huge head and brilliant mustache. LOVE IT
Most wear the strap attached to the belt on their right side (over left shoulder) because that is the side their weapon is on. The man wearing his to the left shots left.
@oldstuff He may have wanted everyone to know that he wasn't lip syncing from a recording.
Ontario skies because the performance was a Canada Day performance in Ottawa. Of course, once he got into it, he reverted back to the original chorus.
Working a comment about the weather into it pretty much proves he wasn't faking it.
The date change 1873? The Northwest Mounted Police (precursor to RCMP) were founded in 1873.
I'm not up to speed with Mountie dress codes, but if you pause at 3:14 theguy on the right has the shoulder strap from his sam brown going to his right shoulder when everybody elses is going to the left. Can anybody enlighten me? Is he an officer rather than an NCO? Bane of my life noticing things like that!

@SIMMO9523 Well, there's just one side for uniforms, and being officer wouldn't make a difference. I guess, this guy might simply be left-handed. This kind of stupid detail in a world of right-handed people -- isn't it the reason, after all, why there are places in the world where people drive on the left side of the road?... because knights were used to riding on the left side... not to cross the swords on their road. That is an authentic stupid detail!
@feuille2niggle Um, I thought the whole left-right driving thing went back to the Napoleon empire, when he ordered people to ride on their left (arbitrary decision) to end with the trafic jams and resulting duels between people who wouldn't give pass. And that's why the British drive on the right, to be contrary to Napoleon because they hated the guy... but the knights reason is very interesting too. Funny the places were things you take for granted come from.
@Merething Hey, there's something right in what you say. Actually, since Middle Ages people were going on the left side. Then went Americans' revolution and Independence. To be different from their country of origins they decided to switch the side. After that arrived Napoleon who was in some parts faithful to the French Revolution reforms. He decided then to settle the french switch of side on all the countries he went through...
@Merething Actually it went back further, before Napoleon's conquest of (most) of Europe the majority of countries drove on the left. Napoleon forced every country he conquered to drive on the left. Great Britain kept driving on the left because it was never over run.
@TheStronginthearm Outstanding! I think we've answered ourselves. With my mountie at 3:14 and your mountie at stage right I've noticed that they are both decorated with medals which Queens regulations demand are worn on the left shoulder! That means they have to wear their strap differently to keep it off of their medals. Team work at its best
@SIMMO9523 I suspect it may be because he's a commissioned officer. Paul Gross was always very careful with little details like that in Due South and the only time he ever showed the reversal of the cross strap and belt that I have seen was when his commanding officer (Inspector Margaret Thatcher) donned her Red Serge.
@sirsamuelvimes Most wear the strap attached to the belt on their right side (over left shoulder) because that is the side their weapon is on. The man wearing his to the left shots left.
