Interesting flying boats... However, overall, gotta say that WW II didn't do any of us in Europe any good. Wasted huge amounts of resources, sacrificed a great number of human beings, and for what? We now have what would have been had the Germans won anyway.
Germans were real cocksuckers then.1 poor man bailed out of his destroyed plane at over 10,000 feet and a damned german pilot shot the parachute he was hanging from with a heavy machine gun blast.Poor soul fell over 10,000 feet to his death.I hope that pilot is turning on a spit in hell. This was witnessed by many on the ground, including children.
The 26th fighter wing (Jg26) under the command of Hpt Joachim Müncheberg was one of the most feared and respected fighter wings of the luftwaffe, claiming 52 victories to no loss of its own in the Maltese conflict. Later in the war they became known as the 'Abbeville boys' by the allies such was thier reputation as flyers.
At no point in thier entire history did they shoot a parachuting pilot.
And as history shows, that was an American tactic.
@golfprobro4eagles No. The Germans were never in a position to win it. Poor strategy, poor operational art, no understanding of logistics. For all their tactical and technical ability, the Germans failed to employ the above - the real core of military art. In both World Wars they failed to do so. But even if they had, could they have defeated the United States and the USSR? No.
The Italians could have won malta and was winning but one more time God intervined and Hitler needed the pilots for the invasion of USSR. Italy and Ger airforce were cut to the bone.
No, the Italians couldn't have won Malta even if their entire air force were thrown at the campaign. They were totally outclassed, and once again the Germans had to try to bail them out. It cost them dearly trying to do so. Mussolini's ego was bigger than his abilities. He was a big man when dropping chemical weapons on Ethiopians, but on the battlefield he was a proven a eunich, time after time.
1941 - Dated Hurricanes still struggling against the very latest Bf 109Fs of JG53 and the MC.202s, in March 1942 15 Spitfire Mk Vs flew to Malta from the aircraft carrier HMS Eagle. More Spitfires were flown to Malta from the carrier HMS Eagle on the 7 March 1942. No. 601 and 603 Squadron Spitfires arrived on 20 April. Then the US carrier Wasp and HMS Eagle despatched 59.
In May, more effective deployments of Spitfires allowed the British to gain air superiority over Malta.
By mid 1942, the Axis air forces ranged against the island were at their maximum strength: some 520 Luftwaffe and 300 Regia Aeronautica aircraft. The main adversaries for the defenders were the 140 or so Messerschmitt Bf 109f fighters of Jagdgeschwader 53 'Pik As' and II/JG 3 'Udet' and the 80 Macchi C.202s of the 4th and 51st Stormo. Bombers units included the Junkers Ju 88s of II./Lehrgeschwader 1[13], II and III./Kampfgeschwader 77[14], I./Kampfgeschwader 54[15], Kgr.606, and Kgr. 806.
Thats crap...from all the sorties they had to fly against the flying fortresses completely wore them out against superior numbers. There were always less 109's and FW-190s to fly against the B-17's and their fighter cover. From the bombing raids at night the Luftwaffe pilots didnt get much sleep and flew at least five sorties a day.
Please note this his in not western europe, it is the mediterranean and therefore there were no american B-17's to fly sorties against. Also note that this is in an earlier stage of the war where the americans had not begin their bombing in europe which begun in 1943
Geez you lot REALLY need to read up on what happened over Malta, I am not trolling, The Luftwaffe DID get their asses kicked over Malta. Check out the real numbers of planes the RAF had compared to the Luftwaffe and Italian Airforce.
No history channel version, its the truth. The RAF held the island with very small amounts of Hurricanes and Spitfires delivered by aircraft carriers. AND therer werent any Flying Forteresses over Malta in 1942-43!
Xiolablu has the History Channel version, so what?
There's a whole cable channel just for wall to wall telemarketing. What are you going to do, teach all the people who watch that to think while you're at it?
If he was interested, he'd already have done the research and he'd already know better. If he was anything like a smart boy he'd learn something before opening his big mouth about death and tragedy. So you're trying to teach a skeg to play chess.
it wasnt just the raf that saved malta in my view the ships that kept the convoys going and went out and devastated the german and italian convoys and also got bombed every day like force k who hardly ever gets talked about malta did give a fight 200% but my granda always said the germans made it look like a quarry they used that many bombs all day everyday and then stalingrad happened and that took a large amount of bombers away from malta
The Jagd element of the Newsreel was shot with JG53 flying Bf109F from Sicily and features the Kommodore Gunther Freiher von Maltzahn and Wolf-Dietrich Wilcke III Gruppe Kommandeur. The pilot with the moustache is Oblt. Otto Bohner Kapitan of 6 Staffel. There is an excellent set of colour photos of Bohner and his F4 Yellow1 complete with a dog in the cockpit in Jagdgescwader53 A History of the "PIK AS" Geschwader Volume One March 1937-May 1942 Jochen Prien published by Schiffer Military History.

You say I am trolling, you obviously dont know the History of Malta.
It was the most bombed place on earth, and the RAF held it with tiny amounts of planes vs the Luftwaffe and Italian air force.
You really need to learn your history. Buy a book on the siege of Malta...
