  • "Not avalable in your country" wtf only two people put up this movie and I cant watch either.

  • the girl who has a horse as a demon must have some hard times lolol. i would rather have some small animal then a big ass horse. (btw i like horses but not as a demon)

  • 1:13 that was not Lord Asreil. Lord Asreil is a big, scary guy with a face you're either dominated by or fight.

On the plus side, great casting for all the other characters, especially the voice of the armored bear, and Eva Green is one sexy witch.

  • so they're afraid of dust? why not just use pledge as your deus ex machina against it?

  • lovely!

  • hmm. subtle changes to the story here. not bad per se, but certainly different; bringing in the Church's presence much earlier to the fore than in the book. On that note, is that a dung beetle for that churchman's daemon?

  • @GhostPelt101

    A bulldog!

  • I wish I had a dæmon! reply describing what you imagine yours being :)

  • I have my own Demon..Unfortunately I did'nt know it until after we were married!

  • @limpiomott2 :: Well said . I agree with you i have it too.. ..

  • @limpiomott2 You married the animal embodiment of your own soul? weird man...

  • @dragonsharx.... Sounds like you will make a wonderful pet!

  • Mrs.Coulter is the second most interesting and screwed up characters I've seen in a story or book. My first is Lisbeth Salander from the Girl w/ The Dragon Tattoo.

  • 04:28 look like justin bieber

  • U NEED 2 MAKE U THE MOVIE`S LENTH A LITTLE SMALLER

  • @NikkiKitLiu I would prefer a 16:9 video up to at least 480p. This video is way too small. I'll upload another version that's larger.

  • Everyone looks a whole lot skinnier than when I saw the move in theaters.

  • @WastedPo That's because the video is skinnier. It's 4:3 and I assume that the uploader downloaded an iPod or cellphone mp4 or mpg version of this movie and adjusted the size in their video editor or with a fancy video converter application such as Prism Video Converter...I do wish that it was wider.

  • no offence but has roger got problems? his face is retarded

  • beginning like lotr

  • id want a daemon so bad. id want it to change into an owl, a tiger, a deer, and a dog/wolf. hehehe

  • I hate hate HATE being religious during movies that should just be enjoyed, and I'll probably end up deleting this comment, but I just want to humbly say that a lot of people are arguing about it, because, supposedly because I haven't read the last two books, in the end they kill God. Now that's JUST what I've HEARD, it's not my opinion or anything. So, don't cuss me out or anything please.

  • lyra is like a cute little version of taylor swift.

  • i love this film it makes me want a daemon who else?

  • cute Pan sticking out tongue!!

    \

  • it a shame lyras actor is too old, cos they cant bring out number 2 now

  • @lukeyboy87678 I was wondering why...... anyway, thanks!

  • This movie's pace is horrible. Who the hell edited this? The flow is so irritating that it takes away completely from the tale.

  • I remember seeing this at the cinema, incredibly shit movie.

  • @Var1ety ha ha ha right, we saw it on dvd. few minutes was already too much!!!!!

  • daemons seem cool. It's a best friend and a pet all in one and your parents cant say you cant have one.

  • this seems like a good enough movie to me. So, i don't get all the religous problems and debates that came up when it was premiering.

  • @julyox20 There was a lot of debate right before it premiered because the books are overtly anti-organized religion. The movie, however, toned it down quite a bit.

  • Cute.

  • compass-Justbuyelect @#$@$@$

  • i dont get it. why is the movie called the golden compass? isnt it an altheiometer?

  • @TheDreamerGirl12 well it looks like a compass and its made out of gold, + wh yon earth would someone name a movie with a name that sound like it came from a boring mechanics book :P

  • @TheDreamerGirl12 An alitheiometer IS a compass.

  • I just typed this in and didn't realy expect to find it but hey is this the 2007 version

  • The Dolphins are examples of Luis, Nobert, & Raul

  • Lyra is so cute and beautiful!

  • there is a reason for the theme ... what a great story ; )

  • i don't understand hoe 47 didn't like a movie that is free to watch. besides, it's not bad. thanks for posting Moveveez.

  • Ok I've read a lot of comments about this being a bad movie and the meaning of the story and ect. Well if you all hate this movie why are you watching it! I personally loved the movie and books!

  • the introduction is unnecessary...i mean, come on! why the heck is serafina pekkala narrating? at least make it dan craig or something

  • daniel craig is awesome in all his films. Rare to find a good actor that can do fantasy and enjoy it..

  • What a drab, awful, soulless movie.

  • Got on DVD!

  • why does lyra look so familiar? what has she been in before this?

  • I loved the book so I wanted to watch the movie. It's very clear to see, great job MoveVeez. :)

  • The first time I watched this, I watched on demand with Time Warner cable, and it would stop every three minutes and we would have to rent it again. So annoying. Luckily, we didn't get charged for those rentals.

  • This Has To Be One Of My Number #1 Movies Of All Time

  • Oh dear, there's not only "one" alethiometer. Douchebags with artistic licenses never get the plot right, it's not as bad as how bad they've been with harry potter.

  • @SpinalTapGal the harry potter films actually do pretty good with staying on the book plot. They leave a few things out but they do it better than any other book-to-movie franchise has ever done it. so stop whining about it because the movies are good.

  • I'm a fan of Pullman having read the Dark Materials trilogy as a child but I feel this film was a let down.

This film reminded me of the Harry Potter films; if you haven't read the books the films appear to be pure nonsense with a very loose story line. The line "Wait... what?" is exclaimed by almost everyone who watches the films without reading the books.

The acting wasn't bad but elements of the story were totally dismissed. Daemons are peoples souls and this was never enforced in the film.

  • I saw the movie ( in the cinema ) before I read the novels, and I didn't think it was that bad... I really liked taht Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman played Asriel and mrs Coulter, and I can't picture diferent faces whenever I read the books. Lyra looked a tad too old, but I really liked Yorek. The ending was horrible, just... "that's it?!"

  • Why do they call it His dark materials?

  • @Lionessfish It's pretty clear later on. Basically, in the next two books, they fight a war against Heaven, trying to kill God. It's too hard to explain here, but I'll just put it this way: the only book I liked was the first. The sequels, called "the Subtle Knife" and "the Amber Spyglass" were just disappointing. I suppose that's probably because I'm Catholic.

  • @Gojiralee they aren't fighting God, that's the misconception. They are fighting the authority that basically usurped Heaven from God and locked him away. The point I think of the books were clear on religion, the writer reflected his feelings well. I heard that Pullman was working on another novel for the series, can't wait! ;)

  • @jadedtiffa No, he made it pretty clear the Authority was supposed to be God. Because it is impossible to defeat God and lock him away, as any Christian will tell you, because he is almighty. There's also the atheist professor, who had a conversation with the "rebel angels" who fought against the Authority because they knew he was a liar. And that conversation that Lyra had with Pan at the end of the third book. Oh, and the Magistrate want to destroy Dust because it proves God doesn't exist.

  • @Gojiralee It's a fantasy book for crying out loud! None of it is meant literally or written down to challenge religon

  • @acountrysdream1 I understand that. I just don't like the concept. I have a right to likes and dislikes, don't I? And what I choose to believe?

  • The movie was so horrible compared to the book. *shudder*

  • way to ruin all the surprises in the movie in the first 2 minutes -_-

  • That guy has an EXTREME combover

  • Actually it is based on string theory the whole series uses sci-fi as an allegory to the fall like paradise lost. The series is awesome they just ruined the movie.

  • I hate it when peole say how good this movie is. It's not and I hate it!

  • sick of geeks talking about dust

  • The whole concept of dust, and the parallel universes, reminds me of string theory, which could , depending on the variation, have up to 11 dimensions, and the smallest particle being a 1 dimension string, which curls to different shapes making dimensions. Pretty neat concept, no empirical proof, but dust reminds me of it. Anyone else pick up on this?

  • @DerPoltergeist13 well yeah that’s the point. The great thing about the book is that it could almost be real...

  • great movie

  • i really don't get why every body thinks this film is such a failure. i think its good. i havn't watched the very ending, i've watched till part 6 or somthing, but still, i think its a good movie

  • Stelmaria is SOOOOO beautiful!

  • Lord Asriel is hot

    Billy is adorable

    Roger is freakish

  • "or else.."

    "war!"

    shakes hand

    "see ya later then :)"

    "okay heh :)"

    haha so cute. SO cute.

  • Okay,let's get this straight.

Fra Pravel DOES NOT poison Asriel...the Master of Jordan did.

    I

  • i luv this movie its just that it has to many stupid things that people get there selves into

  • @garciaariana If you had actually read the books and enjoy them as much as I do, then you would not "luv" this movie. It's an absolute disgrace.

  • dakota is my hero

  • Don't you wish that you had a daemon? How cool would that be?

  • @criminalcheddar epic dats how cool

  • @criminalcheddar Yeah I agree I wish I had a demon too!!!! That would be so awsome!!!!

  • The "controversy" about atheism in the film reminds me of the supposed anti-communist slant of SF movies in the 50s.. Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Them, etc. When I watched them as a kid, they were just great movies.... So is this...

  • My daemon is a cheetah. What's yours, my fellow HDM fans?

  • @CelesteStorywriter a red fox...this is the hdm i've watched, not read antyhing either, looks promising...

  • it's hard to understand..when sound is not jsut like english...i mean,, there's so many kinds of english so... i need sub...

  • @1203karezi Actually, it IS English as it's meant to be spoken...

  • @anisete46 i know.. but its hard to understand to me...

  • I loved reading the book. I wanted a daemon right after that. lol. :3

  • @RandomRainbowx Mine would be a crocodile.

  • Why does it have to be about religion? Seriously, I can see the religious aspect, but can't people just enjoy a good, fantastical movie/book?

  • @prettyponybaby2007 this book was actually meant to be against religion, specifically against the church...and i have no problem with it, it's well deserved criticism...

  • @prettyponybaby2007 you're kinding right the author of the book is one of the most influintial athiest of this generation and a movie based on one of his most controversial books isn't supposed to me about religion

  • Oh, I see why this movie was called anti religious now. Good show.

  • right they'd allow the da vinci code and angels and demons yet they wont allow the rest of the his dark materials trilogy to go ahead..... GRADE A BULL

  • I was upset when they stoped the sequels for this movie based on the books, I liked this movie are the books still around?

  • @CrimsonNineTail sure you can download them on iso HUNT

  • @CrimsonNineTail yes of course, censorship does not cover everywhere, fortunately...

  • tis movies is 2007 or 2008?

  • @justawonderland O.o Funny, Kidman was hand-picked by the Pullman himself and claimed that hair-color was irrelivant to the actual acting-style and character. What I found disappointing, however, was the casting for Lord Azriel. I always found Daniel Craig quite wooden and knowing that Paul Bettany was one of the actors in line for the role makes me wish they'd chosen him instead 'cause I always pictured Azriel as a bit more rough than Craig.

  • I'm impressed no one ever trips over their spirit animal.

  • Hey everyone, come and see my video of "The Golden Compass". It is really cool: watch?v=y44rYV5HRiM

  • AAAAAAAAAA! ** I love you ** For a 4-year re-read and revise "The Golden Compass "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pullman quite simply a genius !!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAA hold me! I'm hysterical! Finally, the full movie!! Although very little understood in English (I'm Russian, printed through a translator), but many times I looked at her language ** Thank you very much *,.........,*

  • I'm a Christian, but I actually liked the Golden Compass as a story. I don't buy the religious aspect, but I was really into the characters and the fantasy elements. The movie wasn't quite as great, but I did really like the cast especially Richards, Craig, and McKellen. I think the main problem is that they didn't explain some of the more complex parts in as much detail and apart from the polar bears the animals look kinda fake (but then I'm not a big fan of CGI). Other than that it's good.

  • enjoyed this movie, didn't find it controversial, the Monkey scared the crap out of me !!!

  • Its a work of Fiction. That means its not real. So shut up complaining about every mundane detail. Hey, don't watch it. The end. Now go take your meds

  • Guys.... It's a movie.... Stop overthinking it and enjoy the movie..... Besides... Christianity is a load of shit....x

  • @plesocom haha finally someone said it! i actually love you!

  • yeah, they are called fundamentalists i think. seeing how the trilogy goes on, it is quite unlikely for the sequels to go on as movies, even though they definately should.

  • Oh calm down everyone. It's just a movie.

  • this is all the director fault! if he follows the book this movie will be successful like harry potter and lord of the rings! and in fact this was the first time he direct!

  • @blackpunkemo The failure of this film was not the directors fault. He was forced to censor the film to appease the christian comunity. Besides, the screenwriter is the one to blame for book to film inacuracy. Also, the stupid ending was a safety device. It was used to ensure that if the trilogy was canceled it wouldn't leave too large a cliffhanger. In fact, they actually filmed the real ending, which would have been the beginning of the second movie if this one hadn't failed.

  • @JackHemming

Sounds like they were playing to lose. No wonder it failed.

  • @blackpunkemo 1st 3 Harry Potter movies were good, but 4th one really started to lose it. Love the HP books, but the movies just leave out so much good stuff.

  • @blackpunkemo i would like to agree with you, but to be honest following the story accurately is something both harry potter films and especially the lord of the rings films failed to do! Book faithfulness is irrelavant, people want entertainment and special effects and explosions, and will sacrifice a good script for all this sadly :(

  • This movie was confusing. If I hadn't read the book I would be a questionmark right now. The movie is not consistent and feelings, relations and mysterious dosn't link together like in the book.

  • Hey everyone, come see my video of The Golden Compass. It's really cool: watch?v=y44rYV5HRiM

  • I did like how they STARTED this movie.

  • I hate when movies deviate from books even if its a little bit. The master of Jordan was the one who actually tried to poison Asrael but its no biggie i guess

  • @BlkStunna8 The book made more sense. I saw the movie first, but reading the book now, it is much better.

  • I have to read this book in English class, guess who decides to watch the moving before reading the book?

  • What's the actresses name? The one who plays Lyra?

  • @Oxmarysox09 Dakota Blue Richards

  • I guess this movie wouldn't be here if it made enough money for the company to care about copyright violations.

  • @mos6507 true, but what's the matter? there are just too many Christians who are too stubborn to face the alternative version of their religion. i dun blame them. lol

  • I love this series(triology)...I hav read the golden compass n the subtle knife n i'm in search of the 3rd book the amber spyglass...Does thi film contain the triology???

  • idk .....but i've read all 3 books and i've got another book called Lyra's Oxford

  • i lovvvee billy costa he's so cute!!:)

  • 10x for uploading this!!

  • billy costa looks so sweet <3 haha

  • "the bears of the ice." PROPAGANDA ALERT * * *

  • she said Golden Campuss.

  • thanks for uploading

im reading the book at skl for a project thing so i thought i might aswell see the film so thanks :)

  • Except it's not a real compass, dumbshit. It's a freaking MOVIE.

  • its not made of gold stupid, gold is the colour! its made by DUST

  • @TheMoonPower Gold is the color of dust, let it slide.

  • @TheMoonPower Actually it is made of gold, it works because of dust thats all

  • @TheMoonPower The alitheometer was not made by Dust. It functions as a truth teller/Dust measure.

  • @TheMoonPower People dont seen to know the difference between Gold (made out of gold) and Golden (having golden colour or plating)

  • @TheMoonPower I'm sorry to embarrass you, but the actual instrument is made of solid gold. It's POWERED by Dust, not made by it. This movie also designed it wrong. The Alethiometer is not supposed to have a flip cover, it's supposed to have a crystal face.

  • @ASPeteseats will i am sorry serlock how about you fuck off

  • @TheMoonPower

lmaoo, I tought it was golden.

Cuz I saw it when I was 10....

  • @TheMoonPower

it is made of dust thats mentioned quite often in the books.

  • @TheMoonPower You're stupid ...

  • hah ah that made my day hmhmmmhm

  • why do proclaimed christians compromise so much? you might as will stay unsaved.

  • to all the christians that don't get it, you are exactly the reason why unsaved people don't belive in God. christains let to much slide.why don't you try reading your bible, unsaved people don't like it when proclaimed christains make God look bad and unbeliveable.

  • i'm not christian or athiest yet am fed up of so many peole going on about the religious purposes of the film. its just another movie. anyway whats so anti christ?

  • you're asking why's the book anti christ? (possible spoilers maybe?) mainly because the big thing is that God is the enemy of the series and who they're trying to defeat and in the end God dies.

  • @naruto9843 That's not exactly what happens..... SPOILER ALERT

What it is is that God is just another angel, who lied and said that he was the ruler.

  • oh, it's been a while since i've read the books. i'm re reading them right now though.

  • @naruto9843 yh me2

    jsut finished teh first

  • @KisaraAtemu actually, philip pullman, who wrote the book, has said that the golden compass trilogy was supposed to be anti christ, so naturally that got people riled up

  • @sailormoonfan1421 yeah, didn't pullman write it as a contrast to c.s. lewis's christian-based chronicles of narnia?

  • Stupid extremely religious people get on my nerves. we can have the movie "passion of the christ" which is Christian (obviously), but then we can't have the golden compass series because it's atheist? why is it only ok for there to be christian movies without question, and not an atheist one without there being a huge uproar about it? i'm a christian and know that it's just a movie that has someone else's view on religion.

  • @naruto9843 I'm a christian, but I agree. I mean, there are so many other ideas out there, why do people get so upset about this one?

  • amen to that

  • @naruto9843 I respect your views and all too often Christians are more condemning than simply loving. A great truth is, most of the world condone anti-Believer movies than otherwise - check out the illumanati (conspiracy theories mostly true if the jargin is removed. Check out FWO. Whatever, nobody should be judgmental. Go well - go strong!

  • @naruto9843 The problem people have with this movie(thought it is a little more with the book) it that it attacks Christians, the writer wanted to undermine the basis of Christian faith. Christian movies, like the pasion, in general do not visiously attack athiests.

  • @naruto9843 i didnt see the religion thing behind it (i'm athiest btw) i just watched it as it was

  • @naruto9843 Im a christian myself and i agree with you 100% because religion is not where its at anyway its in a relationship with Jesus Christ not religion.Billy Grahams son needs a dose of that himself.A person can have all the religion they want but without the relationship they dont have a thing.Have a blesssed day.

  • @naruto9843 i agree with you but the passion of christ was more directed to adults when this on the other hand was directed to children and that i think is the problem that they are just dissing one religion in a childrens book/ movie.and they do the same thing in the passion of christ exept like i said before the passion of christ is directed to adult not children

  • @naruto9843 passion of the christ caused a huge uproar.

  • @naruto9843 exactly. All the people in my hometown boycotted this movie because "we're a good christian town" and guess what. I snuck out and saw it any freaking way. I'm a christian born and raised and I adore this series. I think that they should continue this series, if only for we who appreciate good artistry when we see it.

  • @1andonlySaraEliza

I take my hat of for u sir :>

  • Comment removed

  • @naruto9843 Well said.

  • @naruto9843 I agree with you. I'm a christian as well, and I was told not to watch this movie cuz it was gonna make me think that Christianity was a joke yet my parents would let me go see horror movies which would technically be considered just as bad...I still don't get it. So, finally, I just decided to watch it on here =P

  • @SquakingUnicornz I remember hearing the same about harry potter. The truth is if kids want to read or watch something they're gonan find a way to do what they want. I think the best solution is to teach your kids not to believe everything they read or watch.

  • This book was good all of them were. This movie was fucked.

  • is david thewils playing that creepy guy

  • Love the books, and this movie. But don't like the anti-religion about it.

  • Really, I thought that was the best part...
