It's not solid gold. It is just electroplating to make the gun look fanciful and to help keep it maintained without the need for frequent cleaning.

M16's have extra coatings like this, except the coating is only internal and is made from chrome instead of gold for obvious reasons .

The golden ak eventually runs out (at about 3000shots so it is very durable) but I think it was this vid that helped me find it ages ago, so thanks,great vid :)

I found THIS golden ak-47 accidentally when I was driving around exploring till the patrol jeep you mentioned attacked me... It pushed me into the Fence and so I fell, after destroying the patrol jeep my map/radar was blinking... and so i found the diamond, and the Golden Ak.

I should have said that outside of it being more reliable, there's no solid evidence about what it does (as seen from the bickering on here). Plus, it's only good until you one-up it in the game. I basically use it on missions regarding the weapons dealer to open up the bolt-action rifle to use on the assassination missions.

I just found this one on normal mode right before watching this, lol. You guys seem to be arguing over what it does exactly so I'll just throw it away and go back to using whatever weapon I feel like using (bolt-action sniper rifle, ftw).

By the way, in reality, a gold-plated AK-47 has 0 significance over a "regular" AK-47. The gold is only for looks; it has no effect on the weapon itself.

Like I just said, there seems to be a debate over what it exactly can and can't do. I know for a fact that it doesn't appear in the armory but that's about it. I would assume that it doesn't re-spawn but that is purely a guess.

Besides, it's a waste anyways. There are much better weapons to choose from that aren't gold-plated (i.e. my beloved bolt-action rifle :)

It's exactly the same as a normal AK. It's just gold and doesnt have the stock the normal one has. It DOES wear down over time and it DOES jam.

The fact is that the AK47 is the most durable weapon on the market. I suppose Far Cry 2 wanted a balanced weapon system so they did make it have the ability to jam. In real life, the AK47 can virtually never jam. It will shoot whether it is covered in sand, mud, or water. The fact is that they most likely wanted to exercise this, or that they just wanted an easter egg for the players. This gun does not jam, get old, etc.
