"Facts?" Louis wasn't even champion when he fought Carnera in 1935, so I don't know what bullshit Maya Angelou is reading. Ali was always wrong to criticise Louis so publically in the 60s (because Louis didn't acknowledge his abilities). He like all other black athletes of the time benefited from Louis' patience and fortitude. He was free to be who he wanted to be because Joe Louis was prepared to be who white America wanted him to be in the 30's and 40's.
