The German Forces were very poor in the Battle of the Bulge, Most were Hitleryouth,Forced concript and old men with the odd reserves pulled back from the Russain Front. However if the Germans didnt run out Fuel and if they still had there Luftwaffe the Americans would have been humiliated and the British trapped just like 1940, Just goes to show the U.S was nothing compared to Germans or even the Italaisn!!!
@1942PANTHERV The Allies didnt need to be saved, Hitler sent a weak poor force with hardly any fuel or basic equipment, And most of all they didnt even have Air-Force to support there advance, This was not Blitzreig, The advance was going to get no-where, All the Allies had to do was wait till the Axis ran out of Fuel and then counter-attack, Battle of the Bulge shows how weak the Axis had come too, Apart from the Armour everything else was weak and ineffective.
@martynrobin121 ...REALLY..HMMMM INTERESTING...EVER TALK TO ANY OF THE VETS FROM THE BATTLE????....I HAVE.....AMAZING WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY ON IT.....I AGREE FUEL WAS AN ISSUE....BUT I'LL TAKE AN MP 44 ..AND THE MG 42 OVER A THOMPSON...AND BROWNING MACHINE GUN....THE 88 MULTIPURPOSE ARTILLERY GUN WAS A FRIGHTENING PIECE OF WORK....THE TA 52 WAS SUPERB HIGH ALTITUDE FIGHTER....BUT THEY NEEDED FACTORIES TO BIL THE PRECISION PARTS...GERMAN HANOMAGS AND STUGS WERE BUILT BY A NUMBER OF
@1942PANTHERV The Axis Forces during the Battle of the Bulge, Didnt even have Airforce to cover theree advance, Whitch went against everything about Blitzreig, The Axis had hardly any Fuel they were going nowhere, Most of all the Axis couldnt supply there comrades with basic equipment, The Allies only had to wait till the Axis ran out of Fuel and then counter-attacked, The Axis forces were weak and 75% of what was left of the Axis forces was fighting the Red Army in the East.
@martynrobin121 BUT THE ALLIES STILL RAN..THEY RAN..THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS COMING..AIRPOWER WAS GROUNDED BY WEATHER AT THE TIME....THEY HAD BEEN FIGHTING AN OFFENSIVE WAR SINCE SICILY...THEY NEVER THOUGHT THEY'D HAVE TO FIGHT A DEFENSIVE WAR
@1942PANTHERV The Allies were caught by shock, There weakest forces had been attacked in the Bulge, The Allies knew 75% of what was left of the Axis forces were too busy fighting Soviets, Also that most of the Axis forces had been wiped out, Nobody ever thought the Axis would attempt to advance with no hope of victory. The Axis had hardly any Fuel they were going nowhere, They didnt have Air-cover whitch went against there Blitzreig tactics, They didnt have basic supplies it was desperate.
@martynrobin121 THATS NOT THE POINT..MONTE CASINO.....THE ALLIES 5TH AIRFORCE BOMBED..BOMBED..BOMBED..ATACCKED ATTACKED AND ATTACKED..AND THE JAGESCHWADER (I'M PRONOUNCING IT WRONG I KNOW) STILL HELD ON..ONLY A FLANKING ACTION FORCED THEM TO RETREAT.....NEVER COUNT AN ENEMY OUT TILL HE'S OUT....
@1942PANTHERV Bombing of Monty Casino, Was good for the Axis the bombs turned the place into fortress of rumble, Ideal to defend against enemy advance, The Allies lost countless thousands. You have to realise the Axis advance during the Battle of Bulge was insane and desperate, Attacking with hardly any Fuel, Knowing that they didnt even have a Air-Force left to protect there advance, They couldnt supply there troops, Please tell me what at best the Axis could have hoped for??...NOTHING!!
@martynrobin121 ...monte casino was a beautiful church...the german general radio'd the allies and told them they were not occupying it....but the allies didn't believe them..so a wonder ful piece of history was destrroyed..later rebuilt with us dollars.......force the allies to see germany was not going to surrender easily..perhaps if the cost were high enough ..armistice
@1942PANTHERV Germany was begging the British for peace during the war, In 1940 Hitler even promised to withdraw from W.Europe and to even help Britain if they needed it, Nazis were begging the Allies for peace during the war. All the Allies had to do, was just ask the Germans for peace, Instead the Allies would only accept total-surrender just like in the Great war, The Allies could have let Fasism and Communism kill each other, Instead the Allies help Communist just to start Cold war 1945!
@martynrobin121 englandwasbasicallybeatenin40army beaten navy dispersed throughout the worlddefending the realm.bankrupt.eng was bailed out by american lend lease program.hitler wanted to fight his war against russia and gain the territory he needed to become one of the great world powersheadmired england.said it was the only empire capable of having such a huge empire.offered a peace deal to the allies in 43.it was sweet..gave back western europe to the allies.nd turned over the 4
@1942PANTHERV Hitler was begging the British for peace as early as 1940,And the British were never defeated in 1940 an outnumbered British forces took East Africa and stopped the invasion on Britain. Dunkirk was only a set-back for the British. Look at the Red Army? They lost 6million men, 20,000 aircraft, 15,000 tanks in the first few months of the war, Compare that to the British defeats in Europe 1940-41, You just cant!
@martynrobin121 yes stalin was hurting..badly.....he feared another russian revolution...hitlers mistake was not capitalizing on that..the russian people greeted german troops as saviors.....but because of the ersatz division and anti partisans groups orders to hunt down anyone possibly dangerous to the reich..it pushed away many potential allies..still 2 million russians still served in the german army
@1942PANTHERV The British Dieppe Raid 1942, Was never to invade France. The Operation was to gain Info and destroy military targets and see how strong the Atlantic wall really was. In 1942, British forces were moving for the Final push against the European Axis in N.Africa, Also British forces were moved to Asia,Pacific after the Jap attacks on Eastern Empire. I think its funny how you call the Dippe raid an Invasion of France, British forces were far too busy for an Operation D-Day 1942.
@martynrobin121 THE BRITS WANTED TO SHOW THEY HAD A PART IN THE WAR AND COULD HANDLE THINGS BY THEMSELVES W/O ALWAYS DEPENDING ON AMERICAN AID...A FAILURE
@1942PANTHERV Obviously the British still had hudge part in the war, It was the British who had first defeated the Axis, It was the British who stopped Axis invasion, It was the British who defeated the Axis in N.Africa,Mid-East whitch led to Allied invasion of Italy. It was the British who lead D-Day (Operation Overlord) Obviously the British needed supplies from the U.S there trade was vital, However trade from both Britain,U.S were vital for the Red Army,etc,etc.. Without Britain-NO VICTORY
@martynrobin121 ..england was the staging area.......but...,.eng could have been invaded.....sea lion could have worked..oh yes logistically a nightmare..but germania had control of air.....british fleet would have been badly hurt trying to stop convoy or any type of transport ships....arm,y..whats left of it...never could have handled troops or panzers landed.......
@1942PANTHERV Operation Sea-Lion was failure from the start, The Axis failed at stage-1. However even if the Axis had won the Air-Battle, It would have been impossible to invade. The Axis navy was very small and couldnt protect an invasion force, The Axis landing-craft were ineffective and didnt protect the troops, Due to logistics the Axis couldnt invade, It took the British Empire,United States years to prepare for an Operation like D-Day. The Royal Navy and R.A.F made it impossible to invade.
@martynrobin121 it could have worked....the luftwaffe could have easily destroyed any naval fleet sent to intercept the invasion force....air power became critical in the war...japan wanted to destroy our carriers in pearl......because they feared them....the battle for norway..because of fatso goerings blunder in not sending planes to protect the kriegsmarines..germany lost many of it new ships....in 43....a groupd of german ships ordered to return to germany.
@1942PANTHERV The German,Italy navy was small compared to the Royal Navy, The Axis navy could not protect an invasion force. Look at the Axis landing craft? They left the invasion force with no defence. Operation Sealion was always going to end in disaster, Look at D-Day? It took years to plan, Invasion by Sea is hard and too many things can go wrong. Are you honestly telling me that 1940, Germany could have got a successful landing like D-Day? Its impossible due to logistics!
@martynrobin121 .....i repeat..it could have been done.....the army was gone....establish a beach head..shuttle in everything..by boat..plane...yes it could be done....
@1942PANTHERV There was over 500,000 Allied troops in Britain in 1940, So how was the Army gone?? The Royal Navy was the best in the world, Infact all the Axis navy together couldnt even compare with the R.N, The RAF even know outnumbered could humiliate the Luftwaffe. Please tell me how the Axis could have invaded Britain 1940? Due to logistics it was impossible, Look at D-Day that took years to plan and organise and came nearly to disaster, Invasion by Sea is very hard!
@martynrobin121 they passed through the eng channel..raf and royal navy ships tried to intercept them,..luftwaffe were in the air...and protected the ships..the eng lost planes..and ship that day....while the kriegsmarine ships made it home safely
@1942PANTHERV Due to logistics and basic things it was impossible for the Axis to invade Britain, Look into Operation Sealion failure from the start. The Axis would need to wipe out the Royal Navy and RAF to invade. Otherwise even if the Axis got a successful landing they would not be able to supply there invasion forces. Look at D-Day, It took U.S,British Empire years to plan and organise and it nearly turning into disater, The Axis invasion was always going to be humiliated.
@martynrobin121 and i'm saying they could have done it....i'm not saying it was going to be easy..and not a logistical problem..but they could have doen it
@1942PANTHERV Just think about what you are saying, THINK!! It was impossible to invade Britain by sea due to the Royal Navy. It was impossible to invade Britain by Air due to the RAF. You do realise it took the British Empire,United States with endless resources and logistics years for an Operation like D-Day. Please tell me how the Axis could invade Britain?? And just think about it!!
@martynrobin121 raf.....the spitfire was in ltd amt......the hurricane could not compare to me 109...the swordfish was obsolete.....churchill was ordering mustard gas out to use on the germans because he knew they could stop an invasion...royal navy.....air power still in german hands...could stop any amt of ships sent...actually the royal naval had the same amt of ships as kriegsmarines..albeit germany went heavily into uboats....it still could have been done
@1942PANTHERV Thats more bullshit,Are you honestly trying to tell me that the Axis could have had a successful operation like D-Day in 1940?? Due to the Royal Navy it was impossible for the Axis to invade. Also the RAF had full Air-control. Invasion by Air or Sea was impossible. Britain could produce 100spitfires,100 hurricanes in 1 week. The Royal Navy was the best in the world. Invasion was just impossible, And speak English man, I cant understand you!!!
@martynrobin121 ...truth hurts doesn't it..yes they could have..if you consider d-day successful....and sorry about the a-b-r-e-v-i-a-t-i-o-n-s......i wanted this all in one shot...and the royal navy....wasn't the hood sunk...the ark royal sunk....and wasn't eng basically broke and had to get money to keep fighting the war ....lend lease wasn't it????
@1942PANTHERV Just think about it, Due to logistics it was impossible for the Axis to invade Britian. The Axis didnt even have enough Landing craft for an invasion. The Axis navy was too small to protect an Invasion force. It was impossible to invade Britain, Just THINK about it. THATS FACT. The Lendlease came 1941, It was mainly to protect American interests and make sure Britain fighting and refusing pace-talks.
@martynrobin121 did i say it was going to be easy??did i say it wasn't going to be a nightmare??..no i said it could be done.you think the british people were going to fight to the bitter end???when was the last time a battle was fought on english soil????.nd don't forget you also had trouble in n ireland...enf had to keep a standing army there to quell the unrest.think that wouldn't have exploded the day germany invaded??.and how many brits would have joined the german side.
@1942PANTHERV It was impossible for the Axis to invade Britain 1940 due to logistics, Thats a well known fact. Even if by some miracle they got a successful landing they would be outnumbered and would run out of supplies. No nations has even come close to invading Britain since 1066. Britain would fight to bitter end for freedom and democracy, Churchill said- We will fight on the beaches, landing ground we shall fight in the streets, hills WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER!!!
@1942PANTHERV In 1940, Adolf Hitler wanted peace-talks with Britain. Hitler even said that Germany,Italy would withdraw from W.Europe. Winston Churchill refused any peace-talks with the Nazis Axis criminals and said Britain would fight however horrific the road to victory maybe, Do your worst Hitler, We shall do our best!! Only 28 Brits joined the Axis Armies during the war, They were forced to join the SS British "free" corps. Yes, Britain had troops in Ireland and most nations around the world
@1942PANTHERV Stalin was always paranoid, Before the war he had killed the Red Army leaders whitch made the Red Army ineffective as Finland campaign showed. Only in certain parts of the Soviet Union were the Axis forces seen as liberators, Mostly it was in Ukraine. And most Soviets were forced to concript into the Axis Armies, Otherwise they would be starved and worked to death in camps, Hitler put anybody into a Uniform and sent them to the Front.
@martynrobin121 THERE WEREN'T THAT MANY CONSCRIPTS..MANY DID JOIN VOLUNTARILY./......AND YES STALINJ DID BECOME TOTALLY PARANOID..BUT HE WAS A TRUE PROTEGE OF LENIN..HE BELIEVED HIS DESTINY WAS TO CONTROL A INDUSTRIALIZED CONTROL..LIKE THOSE OF EUROPE....HE SENT MILLIONS TO THIER DEATH...SOCIALIST....JEWS....CHRISTIANS...AND ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH CAPITALISM..OR THE TSAR....STALINS DAUGHTER WAS SO AFRAID OF HER FATHER SHE HAD TO FLEE FOR HER LIFE...
@1942PANTHERV During World war 2, The Axis had concripts in most nations they occupied, Also the Axis even invited enemy P.O.Ws into there concript armies. Russains joined because if they didnt they would be worked to death and starved, Others joined because they hated Russia and Soviets occupation of there country. And Stalin killed anybody who he thought could be a threat, typical dictator. Stalin was paranoid and insane, Power went to his head too fast whitch caused extreme brain-damage.
@martynrobin121 it's huge...not hudge......sorry about your grandfather.....should have fought with my uncle on my mothers side of family.......on russian front..against true enemy..stalin
@1942PANTHERV I agree with you, Stalin and Communism were the real enemy. However due to Adolf Hitler Britain had been forced into the war, Britain gave Germany chance after chance of peace, Our Final peace offer 1939, Britain asked Hitler to withdraw from Poland and Hitler refused whitch started the war. Hitler and Stalin were Friends and Allies 1939-41, When Hitler betrayed Stalin, Churchill and Stalin had a common enemy the Axis powers, Hitler gambles went against again, again, again!!
@martynrobin121 I don'[tsee why hitler should have to be forced to leave poland..poland had ceased to exist for over 100 yrs....much of it was once german territory....also stalin was planning on betraying hitler 1st..he just wanted germany to become embroiled and bogged down battling england..then he was going to attack..2 million of his troop[s were in offensive positions....he was ready to roll
@1942PANTHERV Hitler had signed and agreed in the Munich Treaty not to invade Poland or any nation 1938, Then in 1939 the Nazis and Red Armies invade as Allies, Britain gave Germany a final offer of peace and Hitler refused whitch started the war. Poland was a FREE nations and had been born after the German defeat 1918, Germany signed there lands, territory away and there rights and claims. Hitler and Stalin were both planning to betray each other, However Hitler got there first.
@martynrobin121 the waffen ss had only 3 divisions that were totally german..the others all foreign troops....don't think they were all forced to join.....many joined knowing it would be better to fight...than to wind up on stalins chopping block.....eastern europe would have joined by the millions if they knew america was never going to free them
@1942PANTHERV Yes, Most Foreign troops joined the S.S out of free-will. But in every nation occupied by the Axis there was forced concripts. And America was never going to free anybody, They made it clear they didnt care what the Axis did, Aslong as it didnt effect American interests. It was the British, Winston Churchill who made Stalin promise and agree, That after the war Eastern Europe should have the right to elections and free-will, Stalin did agree but then betrayed his word at Yalta!!
@martynrobin121 STALIN EVEN ORDERED HIS OWN DR ARRESTED..AND OTHER DR'S PUT TO DEATH BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THEY WERE PLOTTING AGAINST HIM IN THE 50'S....HE GOT SO BAD HE THOUGHT HITLER WAS RAISING ANOTHER ARMY TO COME AFTER HIM......I SMILE AT THAT THOUGHT
@martynrobin121 million jews in the camps at the time..churchill and roosevelt said no...churchill tried to warn roosevelt stalin could not be controled..roosevelt was senile..he thought he could be....
@1942PANTHERV Nazi-Germany was begging the British for peace during the war from the start to finish but Churchill refused any peace talks with Germany, Only total-surrender. Stalin could not be controlled, Stalin goal from day-1 was to occupy East-Europe. It was Stalin who controlled the Allies. During the war the relations with the Allies & Soviets was pathetic, Both sides didnt turst each other and planned against each other.
@martynrobin121 begging???? begging?????......england couldn't even land a decent invasion force..they tried in 43..in france...defeated by garrison troops....but i agree..stalin was a monster.....should have let hitler deal with him....
@1942PANTHERV Yes, Hitler was begging the British for peace and promised to withdraw from West Europe. Hitler goal was to Unite Greater Germany and expand into the East and destroy Communism, Hitler never wanted a war with Britain. Infact Hitler admired the British and had hudge respect for the Empire. Hitler called the war in the West a waste of life. Britain never tried to invade France 1943, I think your talking about the Dieppe Raid. Britain invaded Italy 1943. France was invaded 1944, D-DAY
@martynrobin121 YES MY FATHER WAS D-DAY PLUS 3......PATTONS 3RD ARMY..RED DIAMOND DIVISION.........IT WAS NEARLY A DISASTER..IF THINGS HAD GONE DIFFERENTLY
@1942PANTHERV My Grandfarther fought in France 1940, he also saw action in Africa and later was part of D-Day invasion and was later injured at Caen 1944, He lost his two brothers they were killed fighting in Libya,Italy. You seem to not realise how vital Britain was to the war, Without Britain there would be no victory, If Churchill had accepted Hitler peace offer 1940, Then the Axis would have hudge chance of defeated Red Army and the U.S would not even get involved, Maybe by trade thats its!
Excellent video and excellent music as well. Greetings everyone. My name is Tim and I have published a great book all about the beginning of this epic military clash. It is entitled: THE ARDENNES ON FIRE: VOLUME ONE. It contains 101 photograghs and many detailed, hand drawn maps that really add to the story. It is available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble, along with Xlibris. Please check it out!
wonder if the same german army during 1940 ardennes attack deploy in battle of bulge 1944 where german had superior number both troops and luftwaffe. Could allies repelled those gigantic attack?
@Jomokb76 sorry i reply to wrong comment mate... :) yes Germans would smash yankees in 2 months by flanking and using light attacks, same what they done with "Superior" Russian army in 1941
very weird that after war, america took charge over nazi scientists like Wernher v. Braun (member of SS and NSDAP) and
gave them anerican citizenship. weird that the US armed forces copied tactics about warfare from the Wehrmacht and there is also a picture of SS Sturmbannführer Steiner in West Point..weird ;)
'The German soldier was very professional and well trained, aggressive in attack and stubborn in defence. He was always adaptable, particularly in the later years when shortages of equipment were being felt'.
UK casualties, not including Crown Colonies and Commonwealth nations: Miltary deaths 264,443; Military wounded & missing, 277,077.
USA casualties: Military deaths, 407,318 to ~600,000; Military wounded and missing, 671,801.
The problem is that tens of thousands of UK, USA, etc. MIA are still listed as MIA instaed of KIA or Died of other causes. Due to this bureaucratic malarkey, the number of USA dead was lowered from over 600,000 to 400 and some odd thousands.
Yes, THAT movie was BS, & the Brtis did capture 13 of 15 Naval Enigmas, and the USA 1 in 1944 (not 1942 as I wrongly stated) & the Canadians also captured 1.
So, are you happy now??
This thread is about the Bulge, so why don't you stop your continual & ignorant spamming.
The Enigma machine was given to Britain by the Poles, and the Poles had already cracked a very %tage of the code. There were USA scientists etc. at Betchley Park working with Brits on the code in 1940. It wasn't until an updated code book from a U-Bpat that was captured by the US Navy in 1942 that the code was fully broken.
The US Navy did NOT capture the Enigma code book-that is Hollywood BS! U-572 the film has a lot to answer for. Go and research HMS BULLDOG. She forced a U-Boat to the surface & her crew managed to board the U-boat. That is how the Engima SHARK code was broken! Your comment highlights how dangerous Hollywood films are-they distort historical facts & whitewash over the achievements of other nations. In addition, between 1940 & 1942, there were no Americans at Bletchley.
Yes, without USA economic & military aid Britain may have been blockaded by the U-Botas inot submission. As Churchill said when the USA entered the war: "We have just won the war."
Like I said, not anyone belittles Britain's great contribution, but you do by being a nut.
Re the Battle of the Atlantic, for the first two years of the war, the British & Canadian Navies provided the escorts to convoys-not the Americans. When the Americans actually entered the war, they were more of a liability intially- they sent ships out to sea with their navigation lights on & got slaughtered by U-boats off the US coast. Victory in BOA was by far due to the efforts of the Brits & Candians. Cracking Enigma was a vital to victory-who did that??
Guess what?? The USA was not involved in WWII in 1939 & 1940, although we were preparing and already helping Britain. USA decleared the western half of the Atlantic a Neutral Zone, which challenged the nazis and said don't bother our ships or any others. This did not fully stop U-Boat attacks but helped immensley, and when the nazis did decalre war on the USA in Dec. 1941 we had already clashed with U-Boats.
U-Boats had a field day off the US coast! Crews referred to it as, "The Happy Time." They sank ships in immediate proximity to the US coast. Even once war had been declared, the US was totally unprepared to deal with the U-Boat threat. They showed plenty of propaganda films showing depth charges being dropped-all to no avail. I saw one documentary which involved German submariners discussing "The Happy Time." As one Kapitan stated, "The US claimed to have sunk my boat FOUR times." Says it all.
U-Boats didn't have a 'field day' off the USA coast until Dec. 1941 when Shitler declared war on the USA, and then the 'field day' didn't last that long. BTW, you mention the canadian Corvettes: I live across the straits from Windsor, Ontario, Canada & Dieppe Park is there, and there listed are the names of all the Corvettes etc. & crew members that perished fighting the U-Boats.
BTW, You should read of the Aussie 39th Militia Bn.on the Kokoda Trail or Track on Papua, New Guinea. How about the 4th Indian Div. in North Africa, not to mention the 5th, 10th Divs etc. there, and in Burma.
UK & Crown Colonies (383,667 KIA), USA (416,800 KIA). These figures do not include civilian dead & the UK & Crown Colonies lost ~67,100 civilian dead, & the USA only ~1,700 civilian dead. Number of military KIA from the UK itself not including the Crown Colonies is less than the figure stated.
WRONG- UK sustained 450,000 KIA, the USA sustained 418,000k. Britain fought by land sea & air for TWO whole years before the US strolled along & joined in. Your figures are all to cock. A handful of US civilian pilots broke the US Neutrality Laws to join the RAF in the Battle Of Britain. Your cliam that thousands volunteered is drivel-it was contrary to US laws to do so.
Flipping morons. The USA lost nearly twice the number of KIA in WWII than Britain simply because we were the larger nation and had more troops in combat around the globe. You people have a real 'keep up with the Joneses' complex.
You are WRONG-moron! Go and research it! Britain that fought for TWO YEARS longer than the US sustained 500,000 kia, the US sustained circa 300,000 kia. Perhaps you should get your 'facts' straight before you flap your mouth. Like many Americans, you have an 'opinion,' yet lack the knowledge to support/evidence your view point. During the Normandy campaign, the British army had as many men on the ground as the US army did for the first three months of the campaign.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH, You are the MORON. USA sustained more KIA than Britain. KIA were low in North Africa. If not for the lowly M3 Lee/Grant and Sherman at gazal & El Alemein Rommel would have been in Cairo. You are the mouth flapper. Before the USA entered the war we had been supplying Britain with much aid, declared the western Atlantic a Neutral Zone and provided concoy escorts. Thousands of USA citizens volunteered to serve in the Canadian and British armed forces.
Not anyone said the Brits landed as many troops as the USA during the Normandy campaign, but you forget the Canadian & Polish units that were part of the figure. Furthermore, you completely forget the USA % French landings in southern France. You forget all the Indian & African troops that fought in Burma and Africa, and forget the Aussies & ANZACs in the Med. & pacific, not to mention the USA in the Pacific. You are the supreme moron.
The British army alone, excluding the Canadians & Poles, had as many boots on the ground as the US for the first three months of the Normandy campaign. In addition, the British & Canadians fought the HIGHEST concentration of SS Panzer divisions ever assembled since the Battle of Kursk. The Americans faced predominantly B class formations. Go do your homework Yank. Your figures for casualties are just plain WRONG. Typical Yank-ignorant of the efforts of other nations & blind to historical FACTS.
The British army alone had as many boots on the ground as the US did for the first three months of the Normandy campaign IE Excluding the Canadians & Poles. Do not confuse the fact the the Canadians & Poles were part of British Second Army, I am talking specifically about BRITISH numbers only. Hence, the CW figures do not enter into the debate-my figure of 450K relates to British KIA only. In Normandy, many British inf battalions suffered an attrition rate on a par with that of WW1.
Every Sherman & M3 was bought & paid for by the UK. The US gave us NOTHING. Go & research the draconian terms of the lend lease agreement-the UK only finished paying off this debt TWO YEARS AGO! We PAID for EVERY piece of equipement that the US sent to the UK, do not delude yourself that the US did us big favours-you bled us dry financially.
Oh I see, so we didn't actually fight in France, Norway, Belgium, Crete, Greece, the Atlantic, the Baltic, the Far East, & Italy by sea, land & air? We just fought in the Western Desert where casualties were 'low?' Let's ignore all the other area of Op's & the casualties associated with them then shall we?! Stroll on! lol
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH, USA rugby team holds a world series type title/trophy from the Brits and the Brtis never got it back. There are rugby teams still in the USA. BTW, USA & Canadian Football allows much more full body hitting than rugby does, hence the use of much more padding, plus their are some huge fellows doing some of the hitting. Chin chin old boy! BTW, Britain is and has been a very hippocritical nation, so get off your self-righteous nonsense.
The correct spelling is, 'HIPOCRIT.' In additon, you are the expert on self-righteousness, you are the one who confidently proclaimed that the US sustained "Twice the number of KIA in WW2." Quite clearly, you have not researched properly to issue such a statement. It appears to be based purely on YOUR assumption, IE self righteousness. YT is infested with Americans who are myopic & completely ignorant of historical facts. Their usual mantra is, "We save your asses." No you did not, the BoB did.
Yes, excuse what is called a 'TYPO' Mr. Jackass. Not anyone here, not me anyway, has slandered Britain's great contribution to the war effort, & I bet I know more about it than you. Yes, Allied casualties in North Africa were low compared to later fighting in Italy, Normandy, etc., and the East Front. Yes, Nearly twice the number becuase the Crown Colonies are included in UK figures, and there are many USA MIA that should now be included in the KIA, many. You have an inferiority complex.
The figures I have sourced & quoted specifically relate to BRITISH only kia & do not relate to Common Wealth nations at all Re Italy & casualties, so the British didn't fight in the Italian campaign then?! lol I should imagine that I have forgotten more about the British role in WW2 than you actually know.
British military KIA were some 200 and some odd thousand during WWII, so yes, the USA had almost twice the number of KIA. Without our aid Britain would have been in much worse shape, and the amount of food the USA & Canada sent to Britain was alos greatly needed. You have trouble with things due to your immense inferiority complex. I have never knocked Britain's contribution so why don't you stick your egotistical and sick head back in your toilet, do the world a favor.
Your figures for British KIA are completely & utterly wrong. It is futile to attempt any debate with such a closed mind. As I already stated, every bullet, weapon, drum of aviation fuel, or sack of wheat, was PAID for in full by Britain. It was transported by British & Canadian ships too. Inferiority complex? I think not, I appreciate HISTORICAL FACTS that is all.
My father did no go in on the 3rd day you moronic idot, my father went in on the 3rd day after the beginning of the landing. Now be a nice lad and go play soccer.
D-Day began on 6th June. If your father went in the THIRD DAY after the begining of the landing ie D-DAY, he landed on guess what? D-DAY PLUS 3= THE THIRD DAY! So when he landed there was no opposition on the beach. Ergo, so what if he landed on Omaha on day three? I don't play soccer it's an oik's game-I play rugby. It's a bit like American football, only it actually makes sense, and unlike the Yank pussies, we don't don 50 lbs of body armour we just take the knocks. Chin chin old boy!
In addition-whilst Americans shake their fists in collective outrage re the release of a dying terrorist, who was convicted with very dubious 'evidence,' what legal action did the USN Captain who shot down the Iranian airliner in 1988 face? He killed 260+ Iranians when he blew that aircraft out of the sky. At the very least, he was guilty of manslaughter. To date, no legal has occurred. Why is that? "Oh gee, it was all a big mistake!" That incident led directly to the Lockerbie bombing.
Greeting all! Just to put you in the picture, PAULSTEWARTCRANE took it upon himself to send me an offensive & abusive msg to my YT account because I use 'SCOTTISH' in my YT handle. I am NOT a Scot. PSC, who had never spoken to me before, decided to send me an abusive msg consisting of foul language because of the release of a Libyian from a Scottish prison. He is too dimwitted to appreciate that LIVERPOOL is located in NW England, & that I had no part in a decision to release a dying prisoner.
Many thanks for your obnoxious & abusive message that you sent me-that was very big & adult of you. I am NOT Scottish buffoon-have you ever opened an atlas in your life?! Stick your misplaced moral outrage over the release of a dying man from prison where the sun don't shine! HIPOCRIT! The US funded the IRA for 30 yrs, during which time 700+ soldiers were murdered, as were hundreds of Police & Prison officers & several thousand civilians. The US thought terror was ok-until Al Queda shat on you!
You didn't hurt my feelings-you merely made a complete tool out of yourself with your abusive language & ranting about Scotland. People in glass houses should not throw stones. I will have sympathy for American outrage at the release of a suspected terrorist when Americans acknowledge how they actually funded IRA terrorists for thirty years. Terrorism was okay-just so long as it happened anywhere else other than the US! Rank hipocracy!
Incidentally, it was very cowardly of you to send your objectionable msg, then block me from issuing you with a reposte. I am most heartened to hear that you will not be visiting the UK, we don't care much for ignorant, obnoxious, big mouthed, myopic, hipocritical Americans-so stay on your side of the pond. Incidentally, there was no fighting at Omaha on DAY THREE, so the fact that your daddy landed there is irrelevant! You stick to driving your UPS truck, there's a good chap.......

@TheJBurner Yes, Hitler pulled back the odd Reserves and some S.S division from the Eastern front.

@martynrobin121 ..airpower..saved the allies..i agree...german troops and armor..vastly superior
1942PANTHERV 5 months ago
@1942PANTHERV The Allies didnt need to be saved, Hitler sent a weak poor force with hardly any fuel or basic equipment, And most of all they didnt even have Air-Force to support there advance, This was not Blitzreig, The advance was going to get no-where, All the Allies had to do was wait till the Axis ran out of Fuel and then counter-attack, Battle of the Bulge shows how weak the Axis had come too, Apart from the Armour everything else was weak and ineffective.

@1942PANTHERV The Axis Forces during the Battle of the Bulge, Didnt even have Airforce to cover theree advance, Whitch went against everything about Blitzreig, The Axis had hardly any Fuel they were going nowhere, Most of all the Axis couldnt supply there comrades with basic equipment, The Allies only had to wait till the Axis ran out of Fuel and then counter-attacked, The Axis forces were weak and 75% of what was left of the Axis forces was fighting the Red Army in the East.
martynrobin121 5 months ago
@martynrobin121 BUT THE ALLIES STILL RAN..THEY RAN..THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS COMING..AIRPOWER WAS GROUNDED BY WEATHER AT THE TIME....THEY HAD BEEN FIGHTING AN OFFENSIVE WAR SINCE SICILY...THEY NEVER THOUGHT THEY'D HAVE TO FIGHT A DEFENSIVE WAR
1942PANTHERV 5 months ago
@1942PANTHERV The Allies were caught by shock, There weakest forces had been attacked in the Bulge, The Allies knew 75% of what was left of the Axis forces were too busy fighting Soviets, Also that most of the Axis forces had been wiped out, Nobody ever thought the Axis would attempt to advance with no hope of victory. The Axis had hardly any Fuel they were going nowhere, They didnt have Air-cover whitch went against there Blitzreig tactics, They didnt have basic supplies it was desperate.
martynrobin121 5 months ago
@martynrobin121 THATS NOT THE POINT..MONTE CASINO.....THE ALLIES 5TH AIRFORCE BOMBED..BOMBED..BOMBED..ATACCKED ATTACKED AND ATTACKED..AND THE JAGESCHWADER (I'M PRONOUNCING IT WRONG I KNOW) STILL HELD ON..ONLY A FLANKING ACTION FORCED THEM TO RETREAT.....NEVER COUNT AN ENEMY OUT TILL HE'S OUT....
1942PANTHERV 5 months ago

@1942PANTHERV Hitler was begging the British for peace as early as 1940,And the British were never defeated in 1940 an outnumbered British forces took East Africa and stopped the invasion on Britain. Dunkirk was only a set-back for the British. Look at the Red Army? They lost 6million men, 20,000 aircraft, 15,000 tanks in the first few months of the war, Compare that to the British defeats in Europe 1940-41, You just cant!
martynrobin121 4 months ago

1942PANTHERV 4 months ago
@1942PANTHERV Operation Sea-Lion was failure from the start, The Axis failed at stage-1. However even if the Axis had won the Air-Battle, It would have been impossible to invade. The Axis navy was very small and couldnt protect an invasion force, The Axis landing-craft were ineffective and didnt protect the troops, Due to logistics the Axis couldnt invade, It took the British Empire,United States years to prepare for an Operation like D-Day. The Royal Navy and R.A.F made it impossible to invade.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 it could have worked....the luftwaffe could have easily destroyed any naval fleet sent to intercept the invasion force....air power became critical in the war...japan wanted to destroy our carriers in pearl......because they feared them....the battle for norway..because of fatso goerings blunder in not sending planes to protect the kriegsmarines..germany lost many of it new ships....in 43....a groupd of german ships ordered to return to germany.
1942PANTHERV 4 months ago
@1942PANTHERV The German,Italy navy was small compared to the Royal Navy, The Axis navy could not protect an invasion force. Look at the Axis landing craft? They left the invasion force with no defence. Operation Sealion was always going to end in disaster, Look at D-Day? It took years to plan, Invasion by Sea is hard and too many things can go wrong. Are you honestly telling me that 1940, Germany could have got a successful landing like D-Day? Its impossible due to logistics!
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 .....i repeat..it could have been done.....the army was gone....establish a beach head..shuttle in everything..by boat..plane...yes it could be done....
1942PANTHERV 4 months ago
@1942PANTHERV There was over 500,000 Allied troops in Britain in 1940, So how was the Army gone?? The Royal Navy was the best in the world, Infact all the Axis navy together couldnt even compare with the R.N, The RAF even know outnumbered could humiliate the Luftwaffe. Please tell me how the Axis could have invaded Britain 1940? Due to logistics it was impossible, Look at D-Day that took years to plan and organise and came nearly to disaster, Invasion by Sea is very hard!
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 they passed through the eng channel..raf and royal navy ships tried to intercept them,..luftwaffe were in the air...and protected the ships..the eng lost planes..and ship that day....while the kriegsmarine ships made it home safely
1942PANTHERV 4 months ago
@1942PANTHERV Due to logistics and basic things it was impossible for the Axis to invade Britain, Look into Operation Sealion failure from the start. The Axis would need to wipe out the Royal Navy and RAF to invade. Otherwise even if the Axis got a successful landing they would not be able to supply there invasion forces. Look at D-Day, It took U.S,British Empire years to plan and organise and it nearly turning into disater, The Axis invasion was always going to be humiliated.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 and i'm saying they could have done it....i'm not saying it was going to be easy..and not a logistical problem..but they could have doen it

@1942PANTHERV Just think about what you are saying, THINK!! It was impossible to invade Britain by sea due to the Royal Navy. It was impossible to invade Britain by Air due to the RAF. You do realise it took the British Empire,United States with endless resources and logistics years for an Operation like D-Day. Please tell me how the Axis could invade Britain?? And just think about it!!
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 raf.....the spitfire was in ltd amt......the hurricane could not compare to me 109...the swordfish was obsolete.....churchill was ordering mustard gas out to use on the germans because he knew they could stop an invasion...royal navy.....air power still in german hands...could stop any amt of ships sent...actually the royal naval had the same amt of ships as kriegsmarines..albeit germany went heavily into uboats....it still could have been done
1942PANTHERV 4 months ago

1942PANTHERV 4 months ago
@1942PANTHERV Just think about it, Due to logistics it was impossible for the Axis to invade Britian. The Axis didnt even have enough Landing craft for an invasion. The Axis navy was too small to protect an Invasion force. It was impossible to invade Britain, Just THINK about it. THATS FACT. The Lendlease came 1941, It was mainly to protect American interests and make sure Britain fighting and refusing pace-talks.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 did i say it was going to be easy??did i say it wasn't going to be a nightmare??..no i said it could be done.you think the british people were going to fight to the bitter end???when was the last time a battle was fought on english soil????.nd don't forget you also had trouble in n ireland...enf had to keep a standing army there to quell the unrest.think that wouldn't have exploded the day germany invaded??.and how many brits would have joined the german side.
1942PANTHERV 4 months ago
@1942PANTHERV It was impossible for the Axis to invade Britain 1940 due to logistics, Thats a well known fact. Even if by some miracle they got a successful landing they would be outnumbered and would run out of supplies. No nations has even come close to invading Britain since 1066. Britain would fight to bitter end for freedom and democracy, Churchill said- We will fight on the beaches, landing ground we shall fight in the streets, hills WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER!!!

And most Soviets were forced to concript into the Axis Armies, Otherwise they would be starved and worked to death in camps, Hitler put anybody into a Uniform and sent them to the Front.
martynrobin121 4 months ago

Hitler and Stalin were Friends and Allies 1939-41, When Hitler betrayed Stalin, Churchill and Stalin had a common enemy the Axis powers, Hitler gambles went against again, again, again!!
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 I don'[tsee why hitler should have to be forced to leave poland..poland had ceased to exist for over 100 yrs....much of it was once german territory....also stalin was planning on betraying hitler 1st..he just wanted germany to become embroiled and bogged down battling england..then he was going to attack..2 million of his troop[s were in offensive positions....he was ready to roll
1942PANTHERV 4 months ago
@1942PANTHERV Hitler had signed and agreed in the Munich Treaty not to invade Poland or any nation 1938, Then in 1939 the Nazis and Red Armies invade as Allies, Britain gave Germany a final offer of peace and Hitler refused whitch started the war. Poland was a FREE nations and had been born after the German defeat 1918, Germany signed there lands, territory away and there rights and claims. Hitler and Stalin were both planning to betray each other, However Hitler got there first.

@martynrobin121 the waffen ss had only 3 divisions that were totally german..the others all foreign troops....don't think they were all forced to join.....many joined knowing it would be better to fight...than to wind up on stalins chopping block.....eastern europe would have joined by the millions if they knew america was never going to free them
1942PANTHERV 4 months ago
@1942PANTHERV Yes, Most Foreign troops joined the S.S out of free-will. But in every nation occupied by the Axis there was forced concripts. And America was never going to free anybody, They made it clear they didnt care what the Axis did, Aslong as it didnt effect American interests. It was the British, Winston Churchill who made Stalin promise and agree, That after the war Eastern Europe should have the right to elections and free-will, Stalin did agree but then betrayed his word at Yalta!!

This thread is about the Bulge, so why don't you stop your continual & ignorant spamming.
christof139 2 years ago
This video is about the Bulge, and in this battle the Brits contributed little.
christof139 2 years ago
The Enigma machine was given to Britain by the Poles, and the Poles had already cracked a very %tage of the code. There were USA scientists etc. at Betchley Park working with Brits on the code in 1940. It wasn't until an updated code book from a U-Bpat that was captured by the US Navy in 1942 that the code was fully broken.
christof139 2 years ago
The US Navy did NOT capture the Enigma code book-that is Hollywood BS! U-572 the film has a lot to answer for. Go and research HMS BULLDOG. She forced a U-Boat to the surface & her crew managed to board the U-boat. That is how the Engima SHARK code was broken! Your comment highlights how dangerous Hollywood films are-they distort historical facts & whitewash over the achievements of other nations. In addition, between 1940 & 1942, there were no Americans at Bletchley.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago
Yes, without USA economic & military aid Britain may have been blockaded by the U-Botas inot submission. As Churchill said when the USA entered the war: "We have just won the war."
Like I said, not anyone belittles Britain's great contribution, but you do by being a nut.
christof139 2 years ago
Re the Battle of the Atlantic, for the first two years of the war, the British & Canadian Navies provided the escorts to convoys-not the Americans. When the Americans actually entered the war, they were more of a liability intially- they sent ships out to sea with their navigation lights on & got slaughtered by U-boats off the US coast. Victory in BOA was by far due to the efforts of the Brits & Candians. Cracking Enigma was a vital to victory-who did that??
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago
Guess what?? The USA was not involved in WWII in 1939 & 1940, although we were preparing and already helping Britain. USA decleared the western half of the Atlantic a Neutral Zone, which challenged the nazis and said don't bother our ships or any others. This did not fully stop U-Boat attacks but helped immensley, and when the nazis did decalre war on the USA in Dec. 1941 we had already clashed with U-Boats.
christof139 2 years ago
U-Boats had a field day off the US coast! Crews referred to it as, "The Happy Time." They sank ships in immediate proximity to the US coast. Even once war had been declared, the US was totally unprepared to deal with the U-Boat threat. They showed plenty of propaganda films showing depth charges being dropped-all to no avail. I saw one documentary which involved German submariners discussing "The Happy Time." As one Kapitan stated, "The US claimed to have sunk my boat FOUR times." Says it all.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago

Number of military KIA from the UK itself not including the Crown Colonies is less than the figure stated.
christof139 2 years ago
WRONG- UK sustained 450,000 KIA, the USA sustained 418,000k. Britain fought by land sea & air for TWO whole years before the US strolled along & joined in. Your figures are all to cock. A handful of US civilian pilots broke the US Neutrality Laws to join the RAF in the Battle Of Britain. Your cliam that thousands volunteered is drivel-it was contrary to US laws to do so.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago
Flipping morons. The USA lost nearly twice the number of KIA in WWII than Britain simply because we were the larger nation and had more troops in combat around the globe. You people have a real 'keep up with the Joneses' complex.
christof139 2 years ago
You are WRONG-moron! Go and research it! Britain that fought for TWO YEARS longer than the US sustained 500,000 kia, the US sustained circa 300,000 kia. Perhaps you should get your 'facts' straight before you flap your mouth. Like many Americans, you have an 'opinion,' yet lack the knowledge to support/evidence your view point. During the Normandy campaign, the British army had as many men on the ground as the US army did for the first three months of the campaign.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH, You are the MORON. USA sustained more KIA than Britain. KIA were low in North Africa. If not for the lowly M3 Lee/Grant and Sherman at gazal & El Alemein Rommel would have been in Cairo. You are the mouth flapper. Before the USA entered the war we had been supplying Britain with much aid, declared the western Atlantic a Neutral Zone and provided concoy escorts. Thousands of USA citizens volunteered to serve in the Canadian and British armed forces.
christof139 2 years ago
Typo: 'gazal' should be 'Gazala'.
You are the supreme moron.
christof139 2 years ago
The British army alone, excluding the Canadians & Poles, had as many boots on the ground as the US for the first three months of the Normandy campaign. In addition, the British & Canadians fought the HIGHEST concentration of SS Panzer divisions ever assembled since the Battle of Kursk. The Americans faced predominantly B class formations. Go do your homework Yank. Your figures for casualties are just plain WRONG. Typical Yank-ignorant of the efforts of other nations & blind to historical FACTS.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago
The British army alone had as many boots on the ground as the US did for the first three months of the Normandy campaign IE Excluding the Canadians & Poles. Do not confuse the fact the the Canadians & Poles were part of British Second Army, I am talking specifically about BRITISH numbers only. Hence, the CW figures do not enter into the debate-my figure of 450K relates to British KIA only. In Normandy, many British inf battalions suffered an attrition rate on a par with that of WW1.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago
Every Sherman & M3 was bought & paid for by the UK. The US gave us NOTHING. Go & research the draconian terms of the lend lease agreement-the UK only finished paying off this debt TWO YEARS AGO! We PAID for EVERY piece of equipement that the US sent to the UK, do not delude yourself that the US did us big favours-you bled us dry financially.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago

BTW, Britain is and has been a very hippocritical nation, so get off your self-righteous nonsense.
christof139 2 years ago
The correct spelling is, 'HIPOCRIT.' In additon, you are the expert on self-righteousness, you are the one who confidently proclaimed that the US sustained "Twice the number of KIA in WW2." Quite clearly, you have not researched properly to issue such a statement. It appears to be based purely on YOUR assumption, IE self righteousness. YT is infested with Americans who are myopic & completely ignorant of historical facts. Their usual mantra is, "We save your asses." No you did not, the BoB did.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago
Yes, excuse what is called a 'TYPO' Mr. Jackass. Not anyone here, not me anyway, has slandered Britain's great contribution to the war effort, & I bet I know more about it than you. Yes, Allied casualties in North Africa were low compared to later fighting in Italy, Normandy, etc., and the East Front. Yes, Nearly twice the number becuase the Crown Colonies are included in UK figures, and there are many USA MIA that should now be included in the KIA, many. You have an inferiority complex.
christof139 2 years ago
The figures I have sourced & quoted specifically relate to BRITISH only kia & do not relate to Common Wealth nations at all Re Italy & casualties, so the British didn't fight in the Italian campaign then?! lol I should imagine that I have forgotten more about the British role in WW2 than you actually know.
LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago
British military KIA were some 200 and some odd thousand during WWII, so yes, the USA had almost twice the number of KIA. Without our aid Britain would have been in much worse shape, and the amount of food the USA & Canada sent to Britain was alos greatly needed. You have trouble with things due to your immense inferiority complex. I have never knocked Britain's contribution so why don't you stick your egotistical and sick head back in your toilet, do the world a favor.
christof139 2 years ago
Your figures for British KIA are completely & utterly wrong. It is futile to attempt any debate with such a closed mind. As I already stated, every bullet, weapon, drum of aviation fuel, or sack of wheat, was PAID for in full by Britain. It was transported by British & Canadian ships too. Inferiority complex? I think not, I appreciate HISTORICAL FACTS that is all.

My father did no go in on the 3rd day you moronic idot, my father went in on the 3rd day after the beginning of the landing. Now be a nice lad and go play soccer.
paulstewartcrane 2 years ago

LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH 2 years ago
I'm sorry I hurt your feelings.
paulstewartcrane 2 years ago
You didn't hurt my feelings-you merely made a complete tool out of yourself with your abusive language & ranting about Scotland. People in glass houses should not throw stones. I will have sympathy for American outrage at the release of a suspected terrorist when Americans acknowledge how they actually funded IRA terrorists for thirty years. Terrorism was okay-just so long as it happened anywhere else other than the US! Rank hipocracy!

There is only one 'IDOT' (as you spelt it) around here & it isn't me.........Better luck with your sarcasm next time Einstein!
