  • Rener is so unusually quiet in this video...

  • That's so strange - Rener did not say a WORD!

  • Thank you for making these videos.

  • Are leg locks still allowed in competition?

  • awesome video buddy, cheers for uploading!

  • A lot of schools don't allow people to do footlocks because too many idiots were breaking their partners ankles.

  • POP

  • People having a hard time with alut of questions. JIU-JITSU is a art so you can adapt it to your style and can make some change. The most important is the result.

  • Youtube is so New!!!

  • when,i,do,this,i,connect,my,elbow,to,my,knee,

    and,pinch,my,knee,into,the,side,of,,,there,knee,on,the,inital,bite

    stabalizing,the,.situation

  • wait what happens if he doesn't sit up what if he just lays down? wouldn't you lose your leverage?

  • the leg trapping the hip is too eazy to peel off but still a good leg lock

  • I always love how detailed these videos are and broken down.

  • moi xing kwan jing ji xiao! ni haw kwai

  • They call me cheap at the academy for using this

  • Well what do they want you to be? Expensive?

  • great tut

  • i wanna get those shirts, very good videos

  • Well, training is a person with training and culture, something forgotten in the MMA.

Perdón mi Inglés no es muy bueno, aunque el del pais que tu tienes encima y tanto admiran en tu tierra (olvidando lo bonito de sus raíces ) tampoco es un buen Inglés.

  • gotta order that shirt

  • exacto! ni hablar un propio y correcto español. shame on you "KID"! good luck keep training, hoping some day you might find the right answers to keep training :) douche.

  • You guys are awesome! Thanks for the great vid!

  • foot lock mercy is a fun game to play

  • toe hold mercy is better. lol.

  • well, whne i did it it worked but the other person got me in the smae lock at the same time. For example in this video, don't you think he exposes his left foot when he is applying peassure? (maybe i'm wrong, I'm just learning...)

  • Comment removed

  • notcie the last foot lock in the video and notcie the foot that's NOT hidden see how it sits tight above the thigh? That's where yours should be tight on the other guy's leg fight for himnot to hook that foot squeeze hard.and be quick.

  • thats the absolute safest place for your foot. its totaly safe there

  • the problem with footlocks is that you expose your own foot as well while you do it. In conclusion, both fighters end up with a broken ankle... so unless the other guy knows absolutely no jiu jitsu, this will not work.

  • Are you saying that the achilles lock will not work on someone who knows Brazilian jiu jitsu or ankle locks in general?

  • Whatever.

    This works all the time.

  • so you came here in search of gay companion?

    lol

    Homophopic people are dumb.

And what sexual do you see on a footlock?

you must be real twisted in your head..

  • Funny people say they would not do this point is for submition grapling and for real self defence. In that issue he will have a broken ancle but might kick ya but he is not doing that much.

  • what if the guys taller than you and then you cant push him away with ur heel on his waist???

  • Then you can do a belly down footlock check the counter video, he mentions a belly down version very briefly. Hope that gives you an idea

  • Id never try that ....everyones gonna up kick constantl ur gon take a couple of heels b 4 u get close to the lock....Its a awesome move but jus nt 4 me

  • True, but these footlocks are incredible finishers following taking someone down. Catch roundhouse kick, trip, footlock. When you take someone down you have a few seconds of safety to apply this kind of move without the person trying to kick at you.

  • thanks

  • damn how many gracies are there?

  • he will kick you with the other foot

  • you should be ready to take a few hits

you're gonna have bruises, he's gonna have a broken ankle

  • yes sir~!

  • falling to the side also removes some leverage from the dude's kick should he try it

  • me and my friends wrestle alot but i do watch alot of jiu jitsu videos and ive noticed if you straightin your leg out it doest really hurt enough to make you tap is there anyway to do the footlock that will always work thanks josh

  • The foot behind the butt should block it from straightening the leg out. You also gotta make sure when holding the knee with the one hand that the other arm should slide down as far as possible onto the tendon. Hope that helps

  • 0nly reason I ask is because, if you've seen the gracie jiu jitsu videos they actually tell you specifically not to do this move on a person taller than you for obvious reasons... in which he could just extend his leg while he messes ur shit up

  • another thing is.. these are much newer than the jiujitsu videos... so did the grandons think it's okay? cause he even says that he used footlocks when he was younger on older and better opponents "element of suprise"

  • thanks dude.

    heaps

  • I submitted a 230 pound guy with this. He went for my foot but didn't know how to properly apply the pressure, and thank god for that.

  • I cant seem to aply this correctly. I got the posion good but I dont know how to apply. Can some one help?

  • You hsve to do it 1000x to really get it. You should train with someone in your area.

  • Gracie jiujitsu is very goooooooooood... no sarcasm.

  • These guys are awesome! The real deal!

  • "SPEAK UP"

  • Use ur volume button.

  • that shits all the way dude

  • Gracie jiu-jutsu is the BEST!!

  • This could really be effective if you drop someone to the floor and they let there foot get caught trying to fend you off with there legs.

  • question would it also work if you have his leg in a half guard not on his hip or whatever you were doing

  • No, because your legs are too deep between his legs in half-guard. Foot-locks are most common in open guard situations (both bottom and top)

  • One thing they should caution people on is to be very gentle with this and any other ankle, foot or knee submission, especially while they're learning it, because these are the most dangerous submissions as it's very easy to break one of those leg bones or ligaments and they take a long time to heal. Next time you sprain your ankle notice how long it takes to recover.

Also, whenever someone starts to put you in a leg submission, SIT UP AND GET OUT OF IT. Never play ankles with someone.

  • bah ur no fun

  • It's no fun when you get your ankle fucked up! Those take a long time to heal.

  • while i respect your position i totally disagree. the knee is much stronger than the elbow, and the ankle is much stronger than the wrist. guys elbows get hurt by kimuras and armbars all the time.

the biggest problem with any leglock is that a lot of guys don't want to tap with them so they fight it too long. Then they get hurt. neck cranks and elbow manipulation of any kind are much more dangerous in my opinion.

  • hell yea easily, but if a foot lock is left in for a period of time, it'll fuck your ankle up people dont see this comming the figure they can hang in there--news flash if you dont got a plan TAP OUT!! save yourself the trouble and fight another day

helio had the same problem when he fought kimura

  • Ankle and knee injuries generally speaking take a long time to heal. That was my only point. I wasn't comparing them to shoulder and elbow injuries. Besides, you have less nerves in your ankle and knees and thus it's harder to tell when they're about to break.

  • yeah man, i was out for a while with an ankle injury from grappling, took me half a year to recover 100%

  • Sucks, dude. I've had minor sprains to both my knee(s) and ankle(s) -- like the kind that hurt but aren't debilitating -- and they took months to fully heal too.

  • haha yeah, i'm yet to get a knee injury thank god, keep training bro.

  • Will do.

    You do the same.

Make sure you and your training partners take it easy with the ankle and knee submissions! ^_^

  • @kommisar tapping also works

  • @kommisar dude i rolled my ankle about 3 weeks ago and damnnnn i can still feel some pain at a certain range of motion

  • That's a very delicate joint, and from what I understand it can take a while to heal. Go easy on it!

  • @kommisar trust the guy - just happened to me. And don't think "oh, you should tap"... if done quick and explosive by some idiot in sparring (when you don't even expect) you will have 0 time to tap! So BJJ is over for a long time ....

  • @nitescuiustin Yeah, any decent instructor will caution his students to be careful in those joint locks. An achilles lock or footlock (as it's termed here) is OK to be a bit rough with 'cause it won't cause any joints to break. Sounds like you just got a dumbass who wasn't taking the proper precautions, and, yes, I know you can snap someone's leg very quickly in a leglock.

  • i just got submitted at naga by this technique (nice one josh)... escaped it once, then got caught in it again later. It is painful (im still limping around three days later from a deep bruise on the tendon)

  • lol

"don't look at the foot like this..."

    great technique

most of my opponents don't expect this

    to be a finishing/winning move...

    all the best.

  • Super technika

  • Jak lubisz tego typu zabawy, polcam Erika Paulsena. Pozdrowienia

  • This is awesome cuz i never know what to do once my brother has me in his guard.

  • Too bad they weren't instructors when I trained there. I think they are very good. Renner was about 16 when I was a student there.

  • excellent detail.

  • Yes, a complex move--series of moves, actually--broken down nicely. But I would have liked to see how this would work at full speed and when it would be applied. Might be a nice answer to a triangle choke attempt.

  • Damn! Ur so good in explaining things. Bought bunch of BJJ, Aikido & Stick DVD techniques but these guys in Gracie Academy really execellent in explaining and showing things. Why dont you guys put it in the instructional video so us here in Asia can learn the Gracie BJJ. You teach things differently.

  • Great vid, very clear instruction, good repetition, nice slow pace. Thanks. I'm attending a Royce Gracie groundfighting seminar in the UK next month, can't wait.

  • im a bigger fan than that 1 in your video my dad said he is gonna bring me in the summer to the academy cant wait cus i love jiu-jitsu i train with braulio estima he is sick i met roger gracie 2wks ago look on my videos you can see him and me

  • dang man hes a good instructor. a detail that he didnt really emphasis is with your left foot you keep your heel in because the opponent could heel-hook you. i was making that mistake untill i got heel-hooked.
