People having a hard time with alut of questions. JIU-JITSU is a art so you can adapt it to your style and can make some change. The most important is the result.
Well, training is a person with training and culture, something forgotten in the MMA.
exacto! ni hablar un propio y correcto español. shame on you "KID"! good luck keep training, hoping some day you might find the right answers to keep training :) douche.
well, whne i did it it worked but the other person got me in the smae lock at the same time. For example in this video, don't you think he exposes his left foot when he is applying peassure? (maybe i'm wrong, I'm just learning...)
No this looks pretty solid. I teach my students different though.I can send you a vid if youd like.if there is no leg on the outside of his left leg there is not much danger. If you are going for this lock and your left leg goes too far across his stomach he could possibly get you in a heel hook. If you want to see more effective ankle locks look at heel hooks and toe holds. For some ideas watch some of Ryan Hall's matches and see how he sets up heel hooks, he does them to numerous black belts
notcie the last foot lock in the video and notcie the foot that's NOT hidden see how it sits tight above the thigh? That's where yours should be tight on the other guy's leg fight for himnot to hook that foot squeeze hard.and be quick.
the problem with footlocks is that you expose your own foot as well while you do it. In conclusion, both fighters end up with a broken ankle... so unless the other guy knows absolutely no jiu jitsu, this will not work.
Funny people say they would not do this point is for submition grapling and for real self defence. In that issue he will have a broken ancle but might kick ya but he is not doing that much.
Id never try that ....everyones gonna up kick constantl ur gon take a couple of heels b 4 u get close to the lock....Its a awesome move but jus nt 4 me
True, but these footlocks are incredible finishers following taking someone down. Catch roundhouse kick, trip, footlock. When you take someone down you have a few seconds of safety to apply this kind of move without the person trying to kick at you.
me and my friends wrestle alot but i do watch alot of jiu jitsu videos and ive noticed if you straightin your leg out it doest really hurt enough to make you tap is there anyway to do the footlock that will always work thanks josh
The foot behind the butt should block it from straightening the leg out. You also gotta make sure when holding the knee with the one hand that the other arm should slide down as far as possible onto the tendon. Hope that helps
0nly reason I ask is because, if you've seen the gracie jiu jitsu videos they actually tell you specifically not to do this move on a person taller than you for obvious reasons... in which he could just extend his leg while he messes ur shit up
another thing is.. these are much newer than the jiujitsu videos... so did the grandons think it's okay? cause he even says that he used footlocks when he was younger on older and better opponents "element of suprise"
One thing they should caution people on is to be very gentle with this and any other ankle, foot or knee submission, especially while they're learning it, because these are the most dangerous submissions as it's very easy to break one of those leg bones or ligaments and they take a long time to heal. Next time you sprain your ankle notice how long it takes to recover.
Also, whenever someone starts to put you in a leg submission, SIT UP AND GET OUT OF IT. Never play ankles with someone.
while i respect your position i totally disagree. the knee is much stronger than the elbow, and the ankle is much stronger than the wrist. guys elbows get hurt by kimuras and armbars all the time.
the biggest problem with any leglock is that a lot of guys don't want to tap with them so they fight it too long. Then they get hurt. neck cranks and elbow manipulation of any kind are much more dangerous in my opinion.
hell yea easily, but if a foot lock is left in for a period of time, it'll fuck your ankle up people dont see this comming the figure they can hang in there--news flash if you dont got a plan TAP OUT!! save yourself the trouble and fight another day
Ankle and knee injuries generally speaking take a long time to heal. That was my only point. I wasn't comparing them to shoulder and elbow injuries. Besides, you have less nerves in your ankle and knees and thus it's harder to tell when they're about to break.
Sucks, dude. I've had minor sprains to both my knee(s) and ankle(s) -- like the kind that hurt but aren't debilitating -- and they took months to fully heal too.
@kommisar trust the guy - just happened to me. And don't think "oh, you should tap"... if done quick and explosive by some idiot in sparring (when you don't even expect) you will have 0 time to tap! So BJJ is over for a long time ....
@nitescuiustin Yeah, any decent instructor will caution his students to be careful in those joint locks. An achilles lock or footlock (as it's termed here) is OK to be a bit rough with 'cause it won't cause any joints to break. Sounds like you just got a dumbass who wasn't taking the proper precautions, and, yes, I know you can snap someone's leg very quickly in a leglock.
i just got submitted at naga by this technique (nice one josh)... escaped it once, then got caught in it again later. It is painful (im still limping around three days later from a deep bruise on the tendon)
Yes, a complex move--series of moves, actually--broken down nicely. But I would have liked to see how this would work at full speed and when it would be applied. Might be a nice answer to a triangle choke attempt.
Damn! Ur so good in explaining things. Bought bunch of BJJ, Aikido & Stick DVD techniques but these guys in Gracie Academy really execellent in explaining and showing things. question would it also work if you have his leg in a half guard not on his hip or whatever you were doing
dqn17 3 years ago
No, because your legs are too deep between his legs in half-guard. Foot-locks are most common in open guard situations (both bottom and top)
