@legoclockfreak710 The IC isn't a 4017. A 4017 has 16 pins, and this is a PIC16F88 IC with 18 pins. The advantage of using this chip is that the clock function can be built in. If you used a 4017, you would need a separate clock source like a section of a 40106 connected as an astable multivibrator. However, the 4017 would be able to sequence ten LEDs (which is two more than shown here).
