  • A great song from a truly great and under-appreciated album.

  • I got goose bumps.

  • well.. i don't even got a dead father, i've got one that din't was around..

his father died a few years ago, if he'd ever knew some music, he'd knowend this song...

  • i love this song!! my grandad died recently and i was very close to him, my dad showed me this song because he said he was feeling the same way and that he wanted to play it at his funeral, i think its perfect, beautiful song!

  • My art teacher, Ms.Kee, gave me History to listen to when l was 14...shortly after l moved away but managed to find a copy of the album immediately. This album, along with Kate and Anna McGarrigle's work, reminds me of those days...

  • beautiful song,very moving

  • Genius of Mr Wainwright again. Beautiful song

  • Thank you

  • Bought this CD soon after its release shortly after my mother died and played this song often for several months whenever I needed some catharsis. 10 years later, after my father died, life imitated art as I had to clean out their home, sift through their belongings, and decide what parts of their lives to discard. I even made the mistake, a month later, of taking my family to a restaurant where we usually met him for dinner. The poor waiter, who had served us before, ask, "Where's Grandpa?"

  • @rikanaka i know how you feel.

  • very moving wonderful song

  • great song!! One of my favorites of loudon!! Thank you for uploading this song. I do have the album History but is was a while ago since i heard this.

    Thanks

  • This is the most moving song on the album History, a song about the death of his father (in 1988).

I bought the CD when it was released in 1992 and in early 1993 my father died too. Throughout that time, I played this song CONSTANTLY and I think it really helped me a lot. Other Loudon fans I know have similar stories.

Six years later, Belfast 1999, I saw him sing the song live. In the same show he sang Your Mother and I and as he did, the tears ran down his face. Moving times . . . . .
