  • I should have said "For position players." But you're right.

  • He actually hit .301 in 1982, not 1981.

  • Only 3 players have a higher HOF selection percentage than George Brett.

  • @byff2323 Just wait till Randy Johnson comes up for voting ;)

  • @Coastergeekperson04 He didnt have any enemies in the press to my knowledge, and his accomplishments speak for themselves, so he could very well do it. Wish he could have stayed in Seattle.

  • @byff2323 Actually I think George is #3. Ty Cobb, then Cal Ripken, Jr., and then George Brett.

Getting into the post-season, I start thinking about baseball as a kid. Still a huge baseball fan, (okay, baseball addict) and George was the most exciting player I've ever seen. He'd play the same way in mid-April as he did in the playoffs. Full speed all-season.

  • @ottomaddux Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan are higher too.

Brett wanted his last at bat to be a groundout to first where he just barely got beat, just to show the younger players that they must hustle every play.

  • what baseball player did not cheat? Ask MJ (when he tried to play dual sports)- that's when his affair began..... you should see the skanks lining up at the hotel after the games. how could they not be tempted when that crap was being shoved in their faces? Please.....

  • Legend

  • i do vision therapy too i would recommend it to all it helps me so much!!!!!!!!

  • I use to see George in palm springs during spring trainingI he was having a affair with a friend of mine, we would see him at the restaurants in town and she would let us know where they would be, he was good guy (not for cheating on his wife) but very approachable!!

  • my friend has his game used glove

  • Also my favorite player since I was a young child. God bless him...

  • He hit .390 the year before

  • .301 is 99 points lower, math fail.....

  • @heymantheirmydoritos

No. He hit .390 the year before. He wasn't able to keep it at .400 for the last two weeks.

  • @heymantheirmydoritos duh... you fail. he ended the almost 400 season with a .390. He hit 89 points lower the following year which would be .301. DINGBAT.

  • I think the best 3B of his era.

  • Whose better George Brett or Mike Schmidt?

  • @iluvpupok I say George is better than Schmitty for a couple reasons.

Brett was SICK when he had 2 strikes on him---he actually became a better hitter with 2 strikes! You could also blend that in with the word "CLUTCH". Although Sabermetrics don't believe in "clutch" , if you look at Brett..he's the exception. Schmittty had 500 diingers sure, but so did Dave freaking Kingman.

( or something around it). Mike has the Gold Gloves? Royals dont go to 85 WS without Bretts glove, esp. ALCS.

  • What a gamer!

  • i'm a huge die hard White Sox fan. . . . but also a huge die hard fan of George Brett !

    Hell of a player !!

  • George is my favorite ballplayer of all time(grew up in kansas city)..when he came up, he wasn't very good with a glove, but worked hard (the greats always work hard) and improved significantly. But he could always hit.. when I was a kid I told my parents to come get me, no matter what i was doing, when george was on deck..to see that swing...ohhhh that swing. ( or to hear denny matthews describe it)

  • its kind of a shame he will be remembered for the pine tar incident rather than the high caliber player he was, He was amazing

  • i don't think he's known for the pine tar-thing. if anyone remembers that remembers the three homers and one double off the top of the wall against the yankess in game five of the al championship, and flirting with .400. and the injuries.

  • yea everyone who is a ROYALS fan, but seriously im not knocking his skills, becasue he was an outstanding ball player, but thts just life, he has tht cloud over his head

  • Yeah I agree. A hell of a player!

  • If anyone were to ask me about George Brett, the Pine Tar Incident would not come into mind FIRST.

Brett is/was/always will be The Man.

  • The pine tar incident is overrated anyways. The official ruling was to remove the bat from play ONLY, not call the batter out.

  • You're right, his story about pants shitting would come to mind first.

  • He's good for about twice a year for that lol

  • You do know that he was vindicated in the pine tar incident, right? That home run wound up counting. So even if that is his legacy, then he'll be remembered for standing up for himself when he was right.

  • I LOVE Ted Williams. But all things considered, I believe Brett's swing was more beautiful. And the only right-handed hitter I can think of in the same class is Edgar Martinez. (Among current hitters, Gary Sheffield is goldarn close -- not sure if he's all the way yet, though:)) It was always a pleasure to watch Brett and Martinez batting. Not just because they were great hitters, but their swings were so ding-dang beautiful that they were simply delightful to watch at bat:)--

  • His nephew went to my school.

  • his son goes to my school no joke hes my best friend his name is Robin

  • The nephew's name is Beau. Kind of a dick...

  • Brett named his son after fellow hall of famer Robin Yount if i'm not mistaken

  • <-----We Just Started Check Us Out ! !

  • ive got baseaball batt from BRETT and im glad i bough it:) and my art of hitting is better MUCH BETTEr thanks BRETT:) LOVE IT

  • George Brett played for the love of the game....class act and a damn good hitter and fielder. Congrats on the Hall of Fame!

  • George Brett was the best hitter to play the game (in his era anyway). Only guy to win batting championships in 3 different decades as well. He was my hero growing up...even named my son Brett in honor of him. If he played for the Yankees, he'd be as revered as Mantle. Boy, I miss watching him play...

  • He may not have been the greatest hitter of all time, but I know I could put him in the same breath as Williams, Gwynn, Cobb, etc. Also, I consider him an all-time great because of the imprints he left on his franchise's record books. Get this - he's the Royals' all time leader in every offensive category except steals - he is the only player ever to do that. He owns the most team records of any player. That is really something.

  • lol the royals?

  • Outplaydu9: Back in the 70's and early to mid 80's the Royals were a very solid team. Ownership changes in a small market took them down.

  • You know, of all those guys, I think Brett might have had the most beautiful swing. Certainly the best I've seen -- fluid yet forceful:) --

  • Oh yeah I dont doubt that for a second. Williams is close but Brett's swing looks like what a swing was made to look like in my honest opinion. Especially in the pine tar video, oh my gosh i've never seen a ball hit so hard. Yet he still had that relaxed, mechanically perfect swing when he hit it. Beautiful.

  • I love George, especially the pine tar incident vid lol. But really, he's good, but what about Ted Williams? The last guy to finish over .400? Stan Musial?

  • The most pure hitter ever.

  • brett,,,,,,he is the truth

  • the best that ever was.
