@1vonrichtofen "today´s grunge"? how´s the DeLorean holding out, Marty? Believe it or not, grunge has been dead for the last 15 years.... yeah, we´re that old.
@rfa2068 they are great albums, but the teamwork was much better with ozzy, after dio left there were a lot of albums who didn't sell good and that had much to do with dio because he kind of split the band apart, as much as i love him as a singer he is kind of a rat because he betrayed because in his sabbath time he was secretly doing solo work
Dio is a heavy metal god! This Black Sabbath sounds so different than the Ozzy Black Sabbath, they should have came up with a new band name so we wouldn't be in the argument of which group was better. They are different and both hard rocking!
Yea...I guess people don't know how to look back at comments. I WROTE a comment following my joke about Dio and this song. Only one person read the second post. I applaud him. :)
Dio was one of the top 5 heavy metal voices IMHO...alot of you people need to re-assess things...this guy was simply a huge voice in metal...very large...and the lyrics were and are exceptional....go get some Bieber or whatever if you dont like him...Jesus...what has happened...these people who are slamming him werent even born or were pre-pubescent and became frustrated late 90's grungers...so sad...I guess...i dunno...fuck...
@souljour2000 Granted Dio was awesome. But why does everyone feel the need to pick on Justin Bieber all the damn time? I hate his music, but I dont keep obsessing about him all the time. And why the hate on grunge? Why cant people understand that just because you dont like a certain style of music, doesnt validate that genre or band as bad. Music tastes are only opinions, listen to what you like and let others do the fucking same. Learn some respect kids. Ozzy and Dio are kickass
@souljour2000 Correct. He basically resurrected Black Sabbath, and Vinnie Apice was also pretty great. Despite their eventual disagreements, it was a great team effort. I thought this was better than Ozzy at the time.
@souljour2000 Dio is simply the best voice with Freddy Mercury. They both had a chest voice. Not like those falseto singers like Halford, Plant, Gillan and ton of others. Those falseto singers are good, no doubt about it, but DIO was raw power and he never used falseto. His powerfull and raspy voice grabs you by the balls.
@craigfromnewcastle You should stick your finger to the middle knuckle up your ass and I will contest your face with my cock...not gay...just sayin'...so dont get any queer ideas FAG Craigy poo
Dio sang like he had a miniature cockhole dildo vibrating away as he screamed
nasal sounding.Yelling more than actual singing no tone and little range
This band wouldve stayed huge if it wasnt for that balding fag Dio.I cant think of one single front man lead vocalist that was as ugly as Dio SO SHUT IT
Heres an idea, why dont you actually give the dio era of sabbath a proper listen instead of automatically dismissing it as shit because theres no ozzy, saying that he sounds "nasal" and that he screams more than he sings is proof you have never actually fully listened to anything he has sung on. And just to point out, no black sabbath would not be huge they would turned to shit. Have you heard never say die?
@TheCauze0fWetPantiez I could say a lot of things, come to his defense, explain why Ozzy didn't last with Sabbath (until now for the reuinion, fuck yeah), but that would be feeding the troll. I believe the masses have spoken. Every time the horns are thrown, remember where it comes from.
@Anticrombie918 When Dio sang for Stryper I was smitten. But when he got kicked out of the band for advances on Triumph's guitarist Bruce Campbell, I really thought he'd fade away. Dio lived a tough life. Being 4-feet tall didn't help. He was the runt of heavy metal and the laughing stock of Canada. When he died, his hometown of Ontario finally changed the street sign from Dio Avenue to Brian Adams Boulevard. So sad.
This is a great song and everything, don't get me wrong. I like this album and the Mob Rules stuff a lot, but it is kind of weird how they went from Never Say Die to this. It's like they, the ultimate innovators, the inventors, really, of metal...they ended up imitating the more commercial metal stuff that was popular at the time. I mean, it's good and all, but it's kind of like if Pearl Jam imitated Stone Temple Pilots.
Okay. I'm going to get sacrilegious here. Sabbath with Dio was better than Sabbath with Ozzy. Dio is one of the all time GREAT voices of metal, if not the best. I can only think of Geoff Tate, Rob Halford and Howard Jones that come close. Ozzy was a fine singer, but I think his appeal was more his rapport with a live crowd.
@Protocolmtl "all day i think of things , but nothing seems to satisfy" <-- depression,
"Make a joke and I will sigh ,And you will laugh and I will cry .Happiness I cannot feel
And love to me is so unreal" it screams bi-polar to say the least, the fact that the song talks about him not being able to have any sort of empathy. He says he cant "feel". *Studying Psychology.
@xpeacemaster Actually after posting that I looked around to double check and found a quote from geezer(who wrote the lyrics) that's it's actually just about a guy who's paranoid. my assumption of the drug related meaning was based more on personal experience.
When this came out I can't even begin to describe the impact - like a music bomb going off. The arguments and fist fights (yea, people were serious about music back then!) . . .
Grew up with Sabbath in my twenties when I was discovering who I was. Sabbath is Sabbath with Ozzy and Dio. The lessons are clearer with Dio's pronunciation, but we can't knock Ozzy for having those tones that made Sabbath legendary.
The Capitol Theatre in Sydney in 1980 was the venue where I watched DIO and Black Sabbath perform their Heaven and Hell Album, they were incredible and the best live band I have ever seen.
Devil music -- so what? He actually isn't such a bad guy -- the Satan myth was co-opted at least in part from the story of Prometheus, the bringer of fire and knowledge. Satan gave humans the gift of knowledge and was punished for it. I like my knowledge, thank you very much -- I'll side with Satan over a sociopathic God any day.
To all you young kids out there listening to this artwork, never acquiesce to all those bigots out there claiming that this is the music of the devil, this is real music, not only do you feel the music, but you feel like you're part of the music, the crap out there today is only there for the monetary gain, back in these days, music was about the fans, these days music is about the money, its how those people keep their image, it masks their lack for talent. Never let this music die!!!
sorry but Queensryche's good but this totally rules QR's cover. anyway, Black Sabbath became a different band when Ozzy left and Dio came in. I'm not saying one version of them was better or worse, but Dio seemed to really like mythical subjects in the lyrics whereas Ozzy seemed to prefer dark and down-to-earth subject matter (a storyteller vs a realist) and, heck, I love both of them!
Let's put it this way, guys... if you ARE going to do something stupid liek replace Ozzy Osbourne as your singer, then you could do a WHOLE lot worse than Ronny James Dio.
Sabbath with Dio was just fine. More than fine. Yes, I prefer Sabbath with Ozzy... mainly because Ozzy's all-around attitude and image is more befitting to the Sabbath concept. But let's get real here.... Dio was a far more powerful and disciplined singer than Ozzy.
In the final analysis: they both rock hard. I'm happy.
@Tessmage more disciplined singer and better at projecting for sure but Ozzy definitely had his high points and both lineups were all around f***ing awesome!
@Tessmage I prefer Ozzy not because of his "attitude" or "image" but because I think his voice sounds better, and because he writes very good vocal melodies. Dio isn't as good for me.
@Tessmage Don´t you forget someone? Tony Martin was a great singer AND perfomer. The songs and Albums with him are fantastic! And he was in the Band for more than 9Years!
@Bigfatquackattack they had a new sound but still they kept the Black Sabbath essence but with a more dark twist in their music and lyrics due to the fact that Dio was in the band. I believe that after Dio left the band changed dramatically
@Lazar3451 darker? Not. BS essence was kept, but , it was way more lighter than the first albums. Listen again, to the first music of the first album. Then you think about it again.
Ozzy and Dio WERE both comparably awesome. The difference is that Dio was just as amazing right up until the end, while Ozzy... compared tohis former glory, it's just disappointing.
I saw this lineup at the Oregon Jam at the Salem fairgrounds in July 1980 and still have the vinyl - you take a band of metal craftsmen like that and plug Dio into it and what you get fu++ing magic. unsurpassed!
I hear people all the time ask why there's no talent in music nowadays. In my opinion there is, but a simple answer would be this: People have forgotten that music requires soul. You need to put your heart and feelings into the song for people to truly apprieciate (dangit can't spell that) it. Most music today has little to no soul; the singers put very little effort into making it good. People use things like autotune to make it sound "better." Now go out there, and MAKE SOME NOISE!
I love Ozzy and RJD.. just enjoy the music.. it isn't a contest of who is better. I used to go to Lone Star in Kansas City before RJD concerts and he would always be there partying.. he was a small guy but always had 3 or 4 tall beautiful women around him... RIP Ronnie.
@coldfarted Jeah, of course he had beautiful Women around, he was a ROCKSTAR. He looked like someone who had nothing to regret, living a life most of us can only dream of.
Jamin this shit in my 70 Challenger RT on the factory quad speaker 8-track. Bottle of Southern Comfort between the knees, a tank full of ethyl, no seatbelts, and floggin that bitch with no mercy. It was good to be king.

@Tessmage
He's kind of a crazy ass though, and says some dumb things on television
Didn't write his songs neither, you can defenitely tell.

@Tessmage I agree... Everyone tries to emulate Dio's voice, NO ONE can emulate Ozzy's voice. But they still both ROCK!

@Tessmage They were sick with Dio, but it just didn't sound like Sabbath anymore.
Bigfatquackattack 1 month ago 23
@Bigfatquackattack they had a new sound but still they kept the Black Sabbath essence but with a more dark twist in their music and lyrics due to the fact that Dio was in the band. I believe that after Dio left the band changed dramatically
Lazar3451 1 month ago
@Lazar3451 darker? Not. BS essence was kept, but , it was way more lighter than the first albums. Listen again, to the first music of the first album. Then you think about it again.

Ozzy and Dio WERE both comparably awesome. The difference is that Dio was just as amazing right up until the end, while Ozzy... compared tohis former glory, it's just disappointing.

@cmc5788 yep, he got smoked by the coke (Ozzy).

This Ozzy vs. Dio argument is retarded like every Youtube argument ever. Both are fucking awesome and I don't really see it as either/or.

Their both good, but Dio was fantastic. Ozzy is great for rocking out, but Dio can send chills down your spine.

He looked like someone who had nothing to regret, living a life most of us can only dream of.
smellcaster 4 months ago
@smellcaster Well actually he was a short ugly lil guy and probably couldn't get any pussy if he wasn't a rock star.

Jamin this shit in my 70 Challenger RT on the factory quad speaker 8-track. Bottle of Southern Comfort between the knees, a tank full of ethyl, no seatbelts, and floggin that bitch with no mercy. It was good to be king.
