  • Wow! Cool video!! And Granny was such a NATURAL! Loved her! Need more grandmas in the world like that!!

  • I love that Grammy is out there skating too...so cool : )

  • oh, that was lovely footage of the Vinson Owen family. in color, too!

  • very nice video are you going to do more on Laurence owen & Co

  • very nice video are you goine to o more on Laurence owen & Co

  • Nice to see the Owen family together, and in color. What a shame. Don't know how the grandmother got by losing her daughter & granddaughters like that. Many famlies were devastated by that crash almost 50 years ago. RIP to them all.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! The rare footage of the Vinson-Owen family was poignant.

  • I know a school named after him. =)

  • what a weak back leg...

  • See the film, “Rise” This is a ONE NIGHT ONLY FILM, shown in theatres on Feb 17th. (50 Year anniversary) It is about this horrible 1961 plane crash, and the effect it had on the skaters who filled their skates afterwards. GET THE WORD OUT about this movie. I just bought my ticket through Fandango. I was 9 when it happened, so I vaguely remember it. Now, because I am an avid fan, if something like that happened these days I do not know what I would do, because I would not be able to take it.

  • @Davethreshold I wish I could but I'm not in the US :( Hopefully there will be a DVD release.

  • New skaters may not understand the richness of this footage, sadly. However an almost perfect reflection of on and off ice which should be shared with the new generations. It may help them understand the discipline, what a fabulous archive. much appreciated.

  • @louisanairn I think new skaters DO understand this film, better than the public.50 years ago is a long time.

  • Interesting video. I wonder if many viewers wonder what's going on when the compulsory figures are shown.

  • That "old granny," Gertrude Vinson, was MVO's mother, and was a damn good skater in her own right...even after her whole family's death in the '61 plane crash, she continued to encourage young skaters in the Boston area.

    She passed away in 1969.

  • How nice of you to post this video. Thank you.

  • Wow, that old granny was skating! lol

  • Amazing to think this was 50 years ago!

  • Heh, that's not even the music that Ron and Nancy Ludington skated to!

  • Oh thank you thank you for posting this oh I remember years ago looking at their photos in the world figure skating museum oh the loss

  • Thanks for posting this. Barbara Wagner was the pro at my town's rink in the late '70s and early '80s, when I was a kid. I saw her skate zillions of times, of course, but I'd never saw footage of her in her competitive days. In fact , for years I had no idea that she'd even been a world-class skater, let alone won the gold! But that's because she didn't make a big deal about it. She was a class act in every way, on and off the ice.

  • I will not even comment on what I think of Blob Paul! had to work for him for 4 years

  • Who??I imagine the poor old lady didn't live much longer after her family perished in that plane crash.

  • @Rouben19 an incredibly inappropriate place to make that comment. It says more about you then Bob.

  • @EightballRus did you ever work for him
