I just moved into the neighborhood on wednesday and as we were throwing out the trash, a neighbor approached us telling us about the deer and her fawns. We were in awe. It's sad that they had to be moved but it's definitely for their own safety.
Well the neighbors are reporting they saw the city capture one fawn this morning at 11am. I imagine they caught the other without issue. As to how they went about capturing the mother I don't know.
I wonder how many 10s of thousands of dollars they sunk into sub-committees and steering committees and deer action committees and 3 levels of consultants, lawyers, lobbyists and multiple deep containment teams (of which they probably only used one but paid all of them). Let's hope the deer are ok.
I have heard from friends and coworkers that ABC 7 and NBC 5 in Chicago showed this on tv last night - nobody from there contacted me and let me know (which is lame, if they had I would have watched) ... Oh well. So much for my 15 minutes eh? At least Izzy is famous :)
@lokeey She has two fawns (I thought deer had one at a time?) I imagine that's part of the reason they don't want to do anything. I imagine tranquilizing them and moving them would be expensive and possibly cause more harm than good.
@rachezee Izzy is such a lover not a fighter - I imagine in the video you can just here her little woofs. She wasn't outright barking at the deer and there was no aggression in her actions. I think she was just genuinely curious - I bet if I let her go she would want to sniff it's butt :) (yes I know better than that I don't think Momma deer would be happy with a butt sniffing and it would be an expensive trip to the vet afterwards in the best case)
@iamnotgreg Oh no! Sorry, I never meant to imply your dog would have attacked or would have been aggressive at all! Sorry if I left that impression. I too am a dog owner and had to hold back my dog as a skunk crossed right in front of us in Lincoln Square one evening. She chose that moment to make these weird half cry, half barks when she never does. I could tell she was confused by this very odd smelling dog! That is all I meant. I was actually thinking Izzy must have been so curious about it

Your poor dog- must be so confusing... I hope the deer and fawns do well- leaves me uneasy to see her trekking through Lakeview.

Came from Forest Glen Woods. They always head towards the Lake this time of year.

@starla8083 Who could blame them I guess, the lake is really beautiful this time of year.
