I tried one of these today, was not bad, but I tried the Mesa rectoverb next to it and it made the line 6 sound like a cardboard box, b ut it is 3X the price. These are good amps none the less!
This amp is awesome! Just bought it for about $500 and it is insanely loud, also I play an American telecaster through it and it sounds amazing. Tested about 20 amps in the 400-700 dollar range and this beat out all others. I HATE line 6, so I was really surprised to play this and find that it sounded great.
so on this amp, can i make patches and then change between clean and crunch? for example. i make clean sound with chorus effect, and then can i switch to distortion which has NO chorus?
Who gives a shit what is cost? My Gibson LP was 2500. That's a real Gibson. Not your shitty epiphone. I can guarantee it doesnt say Gibson anywhere on the guitar. Epiphone has zero affiliation with Gibson in the crafting. Gibsons are made in Nashville, and epiphone are made in Chinese factories.
@MackenzieLawless I have a Burny Joe perry sig made in korea thats better than all but one of the gibsons ive played or worked on in 30+ years as a luthier. It cost $330 used. They only survive because people like you cant tell the difference between quality and headstock logo. 33 years ago the les pauls coming out of japan were better than the relatively poor late 70`s gibsons at 20% of the price. It was a no brainer then and it is now, unless you have no brain of course.
In fact you only have to search "White Line 6 Spider Valve" to get a decent impression. Its still not miced properly but its a half decent job and theres NO tinny thin scratchy wasp in a tin tone & the cleans are pretty good too. I dont know how guitar world do it BUT i wouldnt send them anything ive made to review.
@levonhelmet how the fuck am I supposed to have a fucking job? I'm 14 you fucking retard, and I don't know about your fucked up shithole of a country, but in mine we start work at 18. Peace, gayboy
@levonhelmet Haha of course because anyone who plays guitar well and is 14 has to be a rock star! You don't even know what country I come from! Stop being such a fucking retard: how the fuck am I supposed to buy a fucking Mesa Boogie? I hope u get fucking aids from that old she male who just penetrated you, you mentally unfit scum. @levonhelmet The guitar world demos always have a sucky sound I think they have a chimp setting things up and on the mic. Its alot better than this, not as good as the real thing on its own BUT in a band situation noone listening is going to notice the difference. These are REALLY cheap on ebay/craiglist and its perfect for a covers band situation. Dont look at it as a substitute for a boutique or classic amp more as a swiss army knife for the cost of a decent Squier. It deserves a decent demo.
For the comment "my Marshall amp and Boss Metal Core pedal pwns this amp"
you're on CRACK! The Boss Metal Core pedal is a p.o.s. it isn't even a true bypass pedal...LAME! You must be new...if you have a REAL Marshall amp you wouldn't need a "metal" pedal....I smell poser
@Jovanchero the 212 comes with $300 worth of Celestion vintage 30 speakers so there's that....if you're playing gigs or looking to blow the roof off the place...get the HD100...if you're playing in your room or garage the 212 Mkii is MORE than enough.....40 watts of tube power is A LOT!
@workt71 Do you own one...? If you do can you tell me list of presets that can be chosen...I'll be very greatfull. ;) xD And can does it sound good with pedals plugged in it...?
@workt71 15watts is a lot! I have a spider IV 15 and I have the keep the master at a minimal setting because it is more than loud enough for the house:-) You could play most gigs with 40watts.
@JustToPlayAround1 dude honestly stop wasting tym worrying about justing bieber the time you spent thinking about that and actually writing that you could have played your guitar or listened to some metal something practical stop wasting your time worrying about justin bieber
I don't get it! why does everyone use Line 6? It makes EVERY guitar sound exactly the same. seriously, if you want to sound like shit...then get a Line 6! Mission Accomplished!!!!!
nobody rlly likes paul from guitar world. . . but think about it, hes a great session guitarist, whos way better than a bunch of ppl, and clearly adapts to SHITLOADS of equipment that guitar world throws at him. . .in all honesty, i like paul, he does his job, well, and hes a great guitarist, kudos to u paul.
my spider 2 212 has volume problem, when i try turn it up and nearly explodes throwing out a massive deafoning noise of squeals, it either sounds muffled or seams to jump to full volume, a bit of messing about and there basicaly 1 volume where it sounds ok, even then it changed up and down on its own sometimes, why is this?
I own the Spider Valve 112... anyone here knows if I should go for the SpiderValve MK2???? I've heard many pros and cons between the two. Bottom line (tone wise/ tube feel-wise) Should I go for the MK2(112)???? I play small gigs, the SV turns out to be Absolutely amazing, I play with the other guitarist that owns a MesaBoogie Mark V, I must say my amp really sounds alike (of course I set and adjust my EQ)
@PeopleLetMe Check my "Demo Spider Valve 112, Marshal Avt 50 y Fender MIM" Video Response. I've recorded the amp in the "insane" channel. It's amazing!
lol, this is one of the only amps that they have had to mic, and it still doesnt sound as good as the others, thats a very positive image for line six
I have a line 6 amp like this one, and trust me... the master volume knob on 2 out of 10 is almost more than enough for me. It's REALLY loud, just like the guy said.
Plus the guy is not even using bass, I can get some awesome crushing power with this amp.
I find it ironic that i had to watch an ad for this vid and it was the hotels.com commercial where he's training his fellow coworker on how to wait. lol.
@10thFulcrum you should be able to get rid of it by holding down the TAP button and turn the reverb knob clockwise, a green light by the D button should indicate that the noise gate is ON. Your guitar's pickups might also be the problem, some pickups are more sensitive to static, and so could your cable.
Wow, lousy amp. Paul's awesome its not his fault he's gotta try to sell this horrible horrible amp. I can't see successful musicians tripping over themselves to gig with this beast. Wow man, I just gotta have that Line 6 Spider! I can't wait to sound incredibly fake and processed! Really not buying into the Bogner hype either. This Bogner dude got everyone snowed, trying to perpetrate that his tube amps are simply the best. A good tube amp is a good tube amp, Bogner don't know shit.
@mytagisWVU69lolz ... yep they sure do suck. thats why they have the highest amp sales and repeat customers. and thats why i bought a line 6 over a mesa or marshall. cause we all want a sucky amp.
I bought this amp recently.. and even though I wasnt a Line6 fan before.... this amp got me and today I am a proud owner.. I must agree with a few guys here, that it sounds really much better in real life, this vid gives you a preview, but seriously go to your local store and try it out if you have the chance :)
well i own both the line6 spider valve 212 and the flextone III plus. i like the sound of my flextone more but like the power of the spider valve. i would like to see them make a flextone valve i think that would be a much better amp. i think they started with the wrong platform. the should have started with the flextone valve not the spider valve. you put the spider vs the flextone and the flex tone wins hands down. so why not make a flextone valve?
you guys are all retards, i can vouch that the spider valve has some solid thick ass tones and im making a demo shortly, paul's also an awesome player i love his phrasing and ability to make up spontaneous solos and riffs for everything he demos
An active guitar isn't really the best choice to make the demo of an amp, too much output, too much treble (the guitar is a great sounding ESP, but it's not appropriate for this video).
Even if you don't deal with a guitar that has so much of output, I wouldn't even make such a demo with a guitar equipped with "Joe Barden" for instance, and for the same reason ("Joe Barden" pickups are HUGE, but still too much output for to make the demo of an amp). Take a factory Strat or an LP !!!
why do they keep doing this? i wouldn't even like this guy on video if he could play. i mean, they try to demonstrate how fat this amp sounds, and they hand it to some guy with horrible playing and a thin sounding guitar, whats the point in doing this???
The only saving grace to this amp is the power amp section and speakers. I use it to power my pod hd 500 and am happy with the results. I have the 212 so I put a 3/4 back on it to help tighten up the low end.
I still don't understand why anyone would buy this crap. the fun of being a guitar person is all the gear you buy and sell over the years; you hone in on your tastes, you refine them with every year, every piece of equipment you buy. Plus I have yet to hear one that actually sounds right. It seems these toys are made for either insatiable kids, or grown-ups with no ear for tone. Either way, if this impresses you, you suck.
@tyler9052 You don't need loads of money. All you need is patience. If you can save up and buy a fender Deluxe tube amp ($500) a good delay (150) a chorus ($100) and, in my opinion the best overdrive/distortion pedal of all time, the OCD fultone (135), you're set. Plus, all the prices that I listed can be seriously dropped by buying used. Under a grand. So, if you took the 500 or 600 you pay for a digital amp, that's not that much more. So patience, you don't need to have everything today.
I have owned this amp for a couple years and it is okay. If you really, and I mean really work at it you can get some good usable tones in a variety of soundscapes. As a relative beginner at the time of purchase, I wasn't in it for the effects or the tone - as I had no clue about either I just wanted it for the volume and versatility (as you can see I was pretty naive, not that I'm still not - just saying). This amp does gain well if you tailor it, but lacks cleans. I wish I got an AC30 instead.
or something of the like. That way I had tone heaven as a base, and could model my sound with a growing pedal board, and maybe a line selector so I could run a good solid state amp for any parts that need screaming distortion.
So Michael j fox is a shredder lol!

well i own both the line6 spider valve 212 and the flextone III plus. i like the sound of my flextone more but like the power of the spider valve. i would like to see them make a flextone valve i think that would be a much better amp. i think they started with the wrong platform. the should have started with the flextone valve not the spider valve. you put the spider vs the flextone and the flex tone wins hands down. so why not make a flextone valve?

you guys are all retards, i can vouch that the spider valve has some solid thick ass tones and im making a demo shortly, paul's also an awesome player i love his phrasing and ability to make up spontaneous solos and riffs for everything he demos
Jpalmieri4 1 year ago
An active guitar isn't really the best choice to make the demo of an amp, too much output, too much treble (the guitar is a great sounding ESP, but it's not appropriate for this video).
Even if you don't deal with a guitar that has so much of output, I wouldn't even make such a demo with a guitar equipped with "Joe Barden" for instance, and for the same reason ("Joe Barden" pickups are HUGE, but still too much output for to make the demo of an amp). Take a factory Strat or an LP !!!

For me it was between this and the Peavey Vypyr. Sorry, Line 6. Peavey got my money. :)

bad amp, dont buy
zzirChristie 1 year ago
why do they keep doing this? i wouldn't even like this guy on video if he could play. i mean, they try to demonstrate how fat this amp sounds, and they hand it to some guy with horrible playing and a thin sounding guitar, whats the point in doing this???
freaxxx 1 year ago
The only saving grace to this amp is the power amp section and speakers. I use it to power my pod hd 500 and am happy with the results. I have the 212 so I put a 3/4 back on it to help tighten up the low end.

I still don't understand why anyone would buy this crap. the fun of being a guitar person is all the gear you buy and sell over the years; you hone in on your tastes, you refine them with every year, every piece of equipment you buy. Plus I have yet to hear one that actually sounds right. It seems these toys are made for either insatiable kids, or grown-ups with no ear for tone. Either way, if this impresses you, you suck.
vonalxao1 1 year ago
@vonalxao1 true but if you dont have loads of money to buy lots of different pedals and amps this amp is great
tyler9052 1 year ago
@tyler9052 You don't need loads of money. All you need is patience. If you can save up and buy a fender Deluxe tube amp ($500) a good delay (150) a chorus ($100) and, in my opinion the best overdrive/distortion pedal of all time, the OCD fultone (135), you're set. Plus, all the prices that I listed can be seriously dropped by buying used. Under a grand. So, if you took the 500 or 600 you pay for a digital amp, that's not that much more. So patience, you don't need to have everything today.

he's a great guitar player and he's reviewing great stuff but he makes EVERYTHING sound bad! Must be the settings he uses.

4:47-"shit i hitted the volume!"
jpirata13 1 year ago
I have owned this amp for a couple years and it is okay. If you really, and I mean really work at it you can get some good usable tones in a variety of soundscapes. As a relative beginner at the time of purchase, I wasn't in it for the effects or the tone - as I had no clue about either I just wanted it for the volume and versatility (as you can see I was pretty naive, not that I'm still not - just saying). This amp does gain well if you tailor it, but lacks cleans. I wish I got an AC30 instead.
PocoRage3 1 year ago
or something of the like. That way I had tone heaven as a base, and could model my sound with a growing pedal board, and maybe a line selector so I could run a good solid state amp for any parts that need screaming distortion.
PocoRage3 1 year ago
why does everything he does sound so bad?
