  • What´s the name of the first song?

  • What a player! Great passion and the expression of raw emotion of flamenco! Wonderful! Thanks for posting this.

  • I first stumbled upon Juan Serrano by accident when I bought an old LP at a Salvation Army.....I've been hooked ever since. Absolutely stunning.

  • ah, the face of a man who has seen many a cigar in his life time. classico....

  • what is the first song?

  • Wanna take a guess at what this man was doing as a little boy, instead of playing football with the ohter boys?

  • SO MUCH SWAG

  • damn im never seen someone as good as he was on a guitar jose serrano u are ridiculous!

  • This guy is amazing.

  • what is the name of the song from 0:00 to 1:05? Please tell me!

  • @guitaristofpain284 this song is "cubanita"

  • Man he makes his fingers dance.

  • Goodgrief i've never seen guitar playing like that in my life. What speed and control. love his intensity and focus.

you could send the play list?? I'll see if I can the parttituras

    I will be grateful!

  • he is beautiful in the straightest way possible

  • soo intense and focused

  • WOW Juan is a Master for sure

  • I've never paid much attention to or known much about flamenco guitar until now, but I love this music and flamenco guitarists are some of the best in the world, and it unfortunate that they get very little recognition considering their amazing techincal skills and compositions.

  • if anyone has full version of the first song PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE uploade it.

  • How come his left finger nails are so short but the right hand their mad long?

  • @AnimeNikkiParamore

The nails of the fingers that press the strings down against the finger board must be short enough to allow the

best angle for clarity of sound and still avoid unintended contact with other strings.

In Flamenco the nails of the Right Hand are long to best allow a strong, and bright attack.

  • @GUITARARTS but isnt long nails difficult for rest stroke?

  • Comment removed

  • @AnimeNikkiParamore so he doesent have to use a pick

  • @AnimeNikkiParamore because he wouldnt be able to fret anything if he did

  • @AnimeNikkiParamore do you really not know

  • @AnimeNikkiParamore its like having a plectrum/pick on each of your fingers. Much brighter and louder sound. I can't even think of playing without long fingernails now, it makes a huge difference

  • @AnimeNikkiParamore Because he uses his fingernails as picks

  • Best musician is playing this Mazovh Granada

Mazovh and Granada is one of the best pieces on the flamenco guitar

    Dear received a wonderful video

    Greetings to you

  • Amazing talent. When I listen that ears and eyes show I lost myself also travel different worlds... Great technique great talent God bless you Serrano...

  • Eres un fenomeno maestro, me encanta como tocas y tienes un inglés muy flamenco. Ole y gracias. Un aficionao de Bilbao y además tocayos.

  • this dude has a metronome in his mouth

  • No denying the skill in this magnificent playing - I can't help noticing that his L.hand pinkie does not always get right up to the fret though, kind of gives me hope as my stretch is pathetic !!

  • very nice

  • is it me or does Flamenco music always seems like an ending?

  • the best forever

  • sit in the sun somewhere in Spain, light up a Cuban cigar, and listen to this all day

  • there are 15 jealows guitarrists......

  • this guy was a guitar professor at my alma mater (CSU Fresno aka Fresno State). wanted to take the class with him, but he retired before I transferred there from JC. some lame American guy was his replacement. I didn't take it because of that.

  • Anyone notice the ticking muscles on his jaw?

  • A true master. To be so delicate but also so powerful- the definition of soul

  • What amazes me isn't the remarkable fingerwork or skill on the guitar, it's watching his face while playing and seeing his jaw contract on specific parts of the music. It's like he puts his whole self into the song.

  • ازيك حبيبي..كنت تقيل دم معك...ازيك...سامحيني..وحشتيني...بعتلكايميل

  • 真漂亮!太喜欢了!!

  • Max Cherry plays some crazy guitar!

  • Flamenco isn't well thought of in classical circles but I find it to be VERY exciting.

  • 0:20 - 0:32

Let me see his right hand!

    ;)

  • What is the name of the song that plays at 2:50?? anyone wb asap pls

  • @DarkCode

It is part of Juan's own "Fantasy Zambra".

The entire piece is on the DVD.

  • perfect :)...they tell me steve vai.joe satriani .malmsteen,...are the best guitarists in the world.....i bet that no one of them can play REAL FLAMENCO ! :):)

  • @metallikkkkkkkkka that's probably as true as the fact that this master of flamenco couldnt play metal/rock like them. How anyone could claim some specific person to be the world's greatest on the guitar is beyond me.

  • @metallikkkkkkkkka Paul Gilbert can play Flamingo...

  • big,big like!! so much passion in this play... you have to feel it and live it

  • Great guitarist with ice cold stare!

  • If i could only play half as good as this i'd be so happy...This man is truely gifted...

  • this is real flamenco finally! (been youtubing flamenco for ages)

  • LOL! and I get all stressed out trying to fingerpick blues songs.

USELESS HANDS!!! This makes me want to break all my fingers with a hammer!! you know because practicing isn't going to help :)

  • AMAZING! LA GUITARISTA FLAMENCO!!!

  • im fucking in love with flamenco now :D

    *im metal fans :D

    \m/

  • :) <3

  • Amazing

  • I never knew FACE from the Ateam was so musical

  • deuz de viola

  • Anyone know the name of the first song he is playing?? I would very much like to hear it all

  • Agree with all the posts concerning his control...but his breathing composure blew me away. Made it seem effortless...not a trace of emotion upon his face...it was all in his playing. wow.....

  • WONDERFUL-thank you for sharing it with us!

  • one of the best ive ever seen

  • I don't understand a word he said... but I guess its somthing like that: My name is Juan Serrano and i betcha can't play this!

  • i wonder if this sounds and good on an electric guitar

  • believe it or not my guitar teacher was taught by this guy

  • El estilo de flamenco que toca hasta el minuto 1:00 es por FARRUCa . Luego continúa POR TIENTOS. Desde el minuto 2:45 sigue POR ZAMBRA .

  • the king of classical is andres sogovia

  • 0:30 thats me

  • Simply amazing, the rhythms especially!!

  • i love flamenco <3

  • WOW @ the rasgueados!

Excerpt 1: Farruca. Excerpt 2: Tientos. Excerpt 3: Zambra "Fantasy". I play this one, but not quite as fast as he can LOL :-)

  • that is probably the prettiest spanish guitar i have ever seen

  • Gracias senor serrano.

Me gusta mucho la ultima cancion.

Es de los Arabes no ?

  • wow

  • Whoever miked this should be shot. They make the guitar sound really boxy and thin. Serrano, who has been one of the flamenco guitar monsters for decades, deserved better than that.

  • that guy was sexier than the dos equis guy

  • He taught the flamenco guitar class I took at Fresno State and let me tell you guys, he is amazing. The stuff he played, just goofing around, I would have given a toe to be able to play.

  • juan serrano es el petrucci del flamenco

  • Never could you hope to hear (and see) more meticulously controlled fingerwork. What an artist.. But not only the guitar player did a phantastic job but also the TV team. What a treasure - great camera, light, editing, interesting finger closeups. Pure pleasure for both eye and ear.

This DVD seems to be a must-have but I just miss one info: Is it region-free or limited to area 1 / US? I'm asking because my equipment can only play European (area 2) or region-free discs.

    Does anybody know?

  • All currently available SOUNDBOARD TV DVDS including this JUAN SERRANO

are set to play in ALL REGIONS.

    Sal Guitarez - Producer

  • @ClausJesup go to videohelp . com and select DVD hacks, find your DVD and you might hack it so it plays all formats. Thats what I did

  • Wow, 13 people missed the "Like" button... this guy us unreal. That right hand should be insured.

  • what an amazing display of talent! he's a fantastic player. this is also a great clip with plenty of quality close-ups. thanks for posting

  • His fingers look scary.

  • woooww

  • I saw Juan at the Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena, CA in 1993 just before they discontinued concerts there. It was a great show.

  • The force is strong with this one .

  • This is a billion times more amazing, harder and better sounding that any of those metal shredders *cough* Batio *cough*

  • What is the name of the piece that he is playing at 2:48-3:30, please? It's exotic.

  • @Daviusheart

that is a "zambra", is a kind of flamenco song that sounds very arabic. there are zambras played by all flamenco players and singers. check them

  • WOW!

  • que bien hablas ingles mostro!

  • thats one badass guitar playing and one badass accent

  • Beautiful

  • OMG! at first i thought this is the newest James Bond (Daniel Craig) playing guitar ;p

    doesn't he look like him?

  • very traditional and nice and clean :)

  • beautiful~

  • Yikes! Was that a tarantula that ran across the strings?!!!

  • @Joggione I so enjoyed your comment!!!!!

  • strong accent, man!

  • strong accent, man!

but thats doesn't mattter at all, he's FANTASTIC!

    <3 him, <3 his music!

  • Different style than paco de lucia altogether, although I'm no expert

  • SantanaIncubus,

The name of the last piece that Juan plays in the Video is called Fantasy. It's a Zambra Mora and is the most Arabic sounding of all the flamenco form. The sheet music & recording of fantasy can be found in the Mel Bay publication: Flamenco Concert Selections - Book + CD - by Juan Serrano.

  • Santanaincubus,

The last piece that Juan plays in the video is called Fantasy. It's a Zambra Mora and is the most Arabic sounding of all the flamenco forms. You can purchase the sheet music along with a CD in a book called Flamenco Guitar Selections by Mel Bay publications.

  • the last piece was my favorite. I gotta get his music.

  • Most impressive.

  • The music of Juan Serrano is so beautyful

  • I am honored to say that is the guy who taught me how to play the guitar. An amazing player and an amazing teacher.

u can call it any of them and the last cald fantazia or arabian danza . thx from lover of flamenco

  • Flamenco guitar is all about right hand. If you practice like a maniac 5 hours a day 7 days a week in 3-5 years you can become good

  • i guess bassists would be good

  • @TurkiyeCumhurbaskani Wow. full time. but it's worth it after all.

  • what is the name of the piece played in part 1 in this video? PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE

  • The opening piece in this video is by JUAN SERRANO and is titled "JUANI "

    (

  • @GUITARARTS Sounded like a farruca.

  • Ive played guitar for 20 years, and I will tell you Flameco is the hardest guitar style of all. Look at what the picking hand has to do. And all the songs are like this. ITS A workout of epic proportions to try and play 1 song.

  • OMG means flamenco takes ur 20 whole year to learn... holy crap dude

  • @Irshkboy its true.. flameco is the hardest.. it took me 5 years to finally able to play flameco well.

  • Truly inspirational

  • i think the correct wording is... "BLOODY HELL!!!!!!"... how i would LOVE to play like this!

  • no rock guitarist could play this, but he probably couldn't play zeppelin or stuff like that.

  • A rock guitarist that has had decent flamenco training could. ie Matt Bellamy, Jimmy Page

  • lol i can. well, not as well as he does, but the first genre i learned was flamenco, now i play metal. but yeah, it's do-able it just takes versatility.

  • @maggotboy9294

    i bet he could...

  • look at paul gilbert

  • man of course he could play Zeppelin stuff. Some of the riffs for the Zeppelin songs only takes about 1 or 2 strings. And the last piece Juan Serrano did was like a rock or metal solo shredding if it was played on an electric guitar.

  • Agreed. Some of the toughest songs in mainstream rock and roll, wouldn't even be warm-up exercises for players like this. This guy could play Zeppelin songs in his sleep.

  • Beautiful

  • Juan is freaking awesome

  • VIVA CUBA - ESPAÑOLA .

  • wow.. i'd like to play this type of music. he plays it so well.

  • man i actually love this guy, he's amazing

whats the first song he plays?

  • Look up "Corey Whitehead", hes my guitar teacher over at FSU. Him and Juan both taught at my college (FSU) and wrote a book. Now im learning classical guitar from Dr. Whitehead, lol its cool to see my music teachers on Youtube.

  • I have this sheet music

  • what is the song he plays at 2:46 ?

  • Juan calls it: "Fantasy (ZAMBRA)".

    The 6th string is a low D.

A transcription of it is in the "JUAN SERRANO

    CONCERT SELECTIONS" Book (Mel Bay)

  • This is what i call A REAL GUITAR PLAYER!

  • @airwolf100 I agree 100% with you!

  • i'm just curious, and i honestly am,

do flamenco guitarists have to have their nails long to strum? or can they use picks or something?

  • well. most technique require multi finger strumming. pick just can't do. notice when he strum with his right hand it is called a "Rasgueado" flick of all 4 fingers. so the strum sounds like a roll.

  • Actually, he only uses 3 fingers. That's the basic flamenco rasgueado. I've seen some guitarists use the littlefinger, and it's definately possible. But it's not traditional flamenco technique. :-)

  • Thanks Valdinijo for the correction, I can't really tell in this video, but yes there is a lot Flamenco guitarist I know also use pinky finger now.

  • Sorry, majingwei was right, Juan Serrano uses 4 fingers in his rasqueado technique, starting with index, pinky, ring and middle then repeat over. It is somewhat harder to learn at the beginning because we have to develop the strength of the pinky finger in order to get a good clarity from it when strumming.

  • the tradittionnal technique is playes whit 4 fingers, the three fingered rasguado was invented later and is now the most used technique because the percussion of the fingers is a lot louder.

  • no picks in flamenco, all fingerstyle. You have to grow your nails out, and it helps to use a nail strengthener so they don't break.

  • hmmm... i saw in some videos of another guitarist, sungha jung, that he had plastic attachments at his fingertips that he used for plucking/strumming.

    can you use those?

  • yuo can but its not comon, i guess the picks like the ones that use that little boy would slip off from your finger in the rasguados. i play flamenco and nothig can replace your nails

  • They cant. Picks are very stupid because when using 4 fingers instead of 1 pick you increase your speed. Besides picks sound is very very bad.

  • it depends on preference, im sure you can get finger picks and such, but a conventional pick would be hard to use :/ long nails are a must in my opinion :P

  • superb!

  • Great playing :)

  • he is so into the music that he plays. when he plays a deep note his cheek muscles move .... amazing

  • his right hand prowess is amazing

  • great

  • I studied many styles except for flamenco, thats my next passion--when i find a teacher I want one like him

listen to his smooth flowing style--

    a great player

  • magnifico

  • He's awesome. Is he related to Paco Serrano?

  • I'd really like to get hold of the full version of the piece he is playing in the first clip.

Those slow to fast temopo sections are a lot like sex.

  • dude this guy was my guitar teacher's teacher

  • swear to god this is my uncle

  • That's so fricking awesome :D

  • I like to transcribe this song

  • Damn skilled player. on a side note did anyone notice his jaw muscle going?

  • i think its kinda how piano players like sway around, he tenses his body nd like really gets into the rythme

  • simplesmente magnifico

  • por Dios alfin y al cabo es un maestro, que cosa tan impresionante

  • FLAMENCO at its best excellent

  • wow he's amazing. so precise and intricate
