Its more like some old school disco jazz I'd say.

John Christian Urich (singer/drummer) was also the drummer/singer for cooly's hot-box. his amazing vocals can also be found on their tracks - 'Get On', 'Wasted Time', Maybe I and the track that they did with roger sanchez -'I Never Knew'. I think he has one of the best voices i've ever heard.
