  • Wow you really ripped that sh.t up!

  • it's a japan strato???serial number??thanxs!!!!

  • if i get this good someday, I would play until my hands are on fire just keep playin!!! tell the end.

  • at first I thought you were some shmuck. Ur real good, I hope you out there playing and not wasting time in the bedroom. Nice tone.

  • Very nice...What amp do you use?

  • @yvan03 check out his other vids he uses a full Marshall stack. (expensive shit)

  • This is definantly partly Yngwie. From the Concerto Suite.

  • What distortion pedal do you recommend for that bad-assnes?

  • @Canadianspunge

You would need a rather large, expensive distortion pedal. I recommend Marshall's JCM 900, or maybe a Major. Even though they're a little bigger than normal stopmboxes, that's the best way to get this sound

  • @WoWintosh Thanks! Gosh I need a job..

  • hey, amazing playing first of all. but im curious, because i want to scallop my strat, does the deepening of the frets make sliding from fret to fret more difficult?

  • @Sketch95 I never noticed any problems with sliding.

  • what kind of pickups do you have in that? and what scale are you playing through? great playing

  • Sometimes it's not about how it sounds, it's about how it feels.

  • Edytka1970, are you disabled?

  • I hear alot of notes but no music...

  • not everything has to be a song or piece or composition!!!...this guy's communicating and I feel it in my heart and bones,

  • @rokcid yea i agree, but some of his stuff that ive heard on here does have a lot of feel to it..

  • wich sort of strings is he using? nylon or steel?

  • Comment removed

  • slow down killer

  • But Paul is a pleasure to watch and hear!!!!

  • i didnt know its possible to do that kinda stuff on a synchronized trem man thats cool!

  • Wow, musical.

  • the dude who broke a floyd rose lololol

  • The lows are barely readable but decent!

  • check out "Black Malmsteen Bitch"

  • i hope this guy knows that hes a god!!!!!!!!!

  • fuck, i thought this guy was jack black for the first 10 seconds.

  • sounds like a mix between EVH and yngwie malmsteen. and it sounds awsome

  • lol this riffguy+malmsteen= EPIC GUITAR BATTLE

  • i think malmsteen would win though, when malmsteen plays he seems like hes not trying.... id like to see him try though

  • Malmsteen is the Dragon Ball Z of Guitar.

  • now thats something i would enjoy seeing

  • hey paul, what pickups you running on this beast?

  • Hey riffguy, i recently purchased a Fernandes Strat copy with an active sustainer. i was wondering if i ever need to change the pick ups, would i have i problems with the sustainer. because the pickups dont work unless the sustain is on.

  • I did the imposible, I broke a Floyd Rose !!!!!!

  • Why is it the strats are always scalloped. ;_; Give me a scalloped Dean plox.

  • it looks pink - are the frets scalloped btw?

  • It's actually red....and it is scalloped.

  • @riffguy hey Paul do think Engwie could play the way he doe's with out Scalloped Neck? I don't !!!!!!

  • lol wtf have you ever played a scalloped neck before?...it just makes your fingers not touch the fret board...he probably plays better without it

  • @mydog2134 No actually I haven't ever wanted to I'm no Engwie or what ever his name is I saw him here a few years ago and he SUCKed he kept screwing up his playing

  • @taximan55 well im very suprised haha from what i seen hes very clean but i guess not...you should try scalloped its a whole different feel to guitar playing...but i still prefer non scalloped

  • @mydog2134 actually I was referring to Malmsteen but I learned that a while back he either put his hand through a Glass door or Feel through one so for a while their he lost a little feeling in his Hands No offence to Engwie! I prefer a Player who can play with soul and guitar playing is not about how many note's you can do in a second or how fast

  • @taximan55 he could, but he just wouldn't use the heavier strings, which in turn would make him sound worse.

  • $199 guitar package. Million dollar man playing it so sweet !!!!!

  • Thats a different guitar. This is a proper fender.

  • hey riff guy i have that same color strat but its made in mexico. u have mad skills, how long did it take u to be able to play that smooths i seen videos of when u were 18 and u were ripping it , ive been playin for almost 2 years and i can never play that smooth its a little discouraging to be honest lol. any tips on developing speed? i do have small hands i dont kno if thats a disadvantange. thanks!! keep up the good work

  • After about 5 years, I could play pretty quickly. Just remember not to make speed your goal at first, you should play well slow before you speed things up.

I don't think small hands would be a disadvantage, you'd just need to adjust your technique.

  • angus young has small hands....

  • Hey Riffguy, what does a scalloped fretboard fell like? Is it more technique or ease?

  • It basically feels like a guitar with really tall frets. A lot of people say it makes you play faster or with a lighter touch, but in my opinion it just allows me to feel & grip the strings better. I find scalloped fretboards give the player more control.

  • hello.

besides the scalloped fretboards, are there any other modifications you have done to your other strats?

  • I've also installed stacked humbuckers.

  • Hey Riffguy, awesome rippin' strat! What is the rippin' amp you using? Is it 70's Traynor you modded?

And what do you use to record the sound? That's rippin' too. And the rippin' faces you make, cool:))

  • This rippin' amp is a modified Marshall JCM 900.

  • Riffguy, thanks for the response. I have JCM900 head, too. What kind of mod should I look into getting it done? I was thinking of selling it but after your RIPPIN' sound, I am thinking of getting it modded too. Can I pack it up and send it to you to get the mod?

  • The mod I did to my 900 was very labor intense. I had a very hard time getting that amp to sound raw, so I ended up gutting the preamp and starting over. I think you'd be further ahead with a JCM800 or older, since there are lots of techs out there that can make these amps scream. I'm currently only modifying my own amps and don't really have the time or equipment to do it for the public.

  • I never expected such a screaming sound to come from a Strat. Amazing playing, dude. It's nice to see that you incorporate influences from classical music as well. I hear some Bach in there.

  • 1:17 lol!!!!

  • wow, wish I could do that.

  • it must feel good to be able to completley master a guitar like that haha

  • After all the practice it is fun !!!!!!

  • keep posting

  • can someone say what scales hes using here?

  • quick ones.

  • lol!!!

  • sounds like a bit of pentatonics and harmonic minor

  • i think the other dude is right pentatonic

  • Harmonic minor, minor pentatonic and diminished.

  • He's using all the scales that happen to be by his left hand ^^

  • which is all of them. the guitar neck happens to be by his left hand.

  • Gotta be some of the most appealing playing i've heard in a while!!! A tornado blend of Malmsteen-Vai-Van Halen runs with riffguys' own signature style licks aplenty! MASTERFUL!!

  • nice u are awesome i like the van halen styleness to this it sounds wicked

  • john frusciante dude.......

  • Actually, some of those guys are buff.....maybe 125 lbs!

  • Thanks for your sense of humor...I've heard some of your other stuff...sounds really good bro...keep rockin'

  • stupid... YJM is an innovator.. like hendrix.. page... iomii..

  • It may not be your thing, but lots of people like playing and listening to shreddy playing. It's just as valid as any Clapton licks. I can only stand so much of that. I like to play in lots of styles. But after one or two tunes playing Cream era Clapton licks, I'm bored. Gimme some Chet Atkins or Malmsteen. It's subjective and there's room for all types.

If Clapton didn't sing, only guitar players would know him.

Oh and don't judge a book by it's cover.

  • I came across this vid by accident and immediately recognized your playing style. It's all there : fast runs (Gilbert and Malmsteen -style) with killer finger vibrato, some old EVH and some bluesy bits..

I like it a lot. Was forgotten how good you are. It's all about tone and feeling and you've got that.

  • what is your real name Riffguy ??? very nice played

  • love it!

  • amazing :)

  • Jack Black?

  • lmfao

  • Hey riffguy, What year was this beauty made? By the way, keep shredding!

  • This one is an '86 Japanese built Squier, far superior the Squiers they build today.

  • Yeah, apparently! The tone is excellent. I was definitely expecting an American Strat.

  • It's funny, when I bought this guitar back in the 80's, the guys in my band thought it sounded better than my American Strat.

  • Marty Janetti? the wrestler! he was shawn michaels' tag team partner; they were The Rockers!

  • i've always had an affinity for red strats.

hey this guys is a great player. butt rock face but he's got soul and skill; bends, intonation, vibrato, tone, execution, harmonic sense, taste, yo man...

  • Its Yngwie and Van Halen all in One nice job on the shred ,shred is not dead, good job man,5*****!

  • he looks like john norum, jack black, carlos cavazos, and marty janetti!

  • this guy's got butt rock written all over his face

  • you sir are a guitar demi god.

  • intesnse, epic at that. also sweet and good lol you get the picture im buying a strat i dunno what colour red, surf breen or daphne blue or black or white

  • nice, better than yngwie

  • Hmm..... Opinions I guess. Although I do love riffguy's performances. He could easily be as famous as yngwie malmsteen, and he's not an egotistical pig!

  • Exactly.

  • "nice, better than yngwie"

Either you don't own any Yngwie DVDs or your just a moron. Yngwie is the best that will ever live, he created a new genre of music, and has inspired people to start playing for over 20 years [which includes me] and you say that just some guy doing random shredding is better? Maybe Yngwie is a asshole unlike Stump and Impellitteri [who I've talked too through email] but I really don't care much.

  • A new genre of music? I don't call playing the same 3 scales over and over again as fast as possible a new genre of music.

  • the same 3 scales over and over again as fast as possible?

    BOY ARE YOU DESPERATE!

  • better than Yngwie? At sucking...

  • really a big jaw man

  • ur a dumbass Jeezy

  • ......jeezy911, an idiot and a disgrace to human beings!! Riff Guy is a guitar god!! Jeezy needs a Strat slamming on to his stupid head!! Waste of a Strat though!!

  • porn

  • riffguy never post a video of him playing country style...what a shame!!!..john fruciante was better than him !!!!!!

  • ummm.... country is the worst genre of music besides rap IMO. Keep it up Riffguy, my favorite youtube guitarist!

  • hey riffguy, who was better than you and john fruciante

  • this is great :)))) if yngwie is god, than this guy is jezus :DDDDDD im gonna start worshiping him from now on :D

  • Paul Gilbert is God, Yngvie is the holy spirit...lol

and this guy could finish the trinity

  • well said :) now all we gotta do is start this cult and spread the holy sounds :D

  • and wen that is done, our mainstream guitarists would finally have talent for once lol

  • Your all crazy if your not going to include Micheal angelo batio.

  • he will start the crusades

  • i love this guy too : )

    awesome guitarist

  • RiffGuy is the best on Youtube period. I wish this style would dominate the guitar world again!!!

  • OK there goes everyone complaining about "feeling" dont yall listen to yourselfs? you sound gay...weep weep it lacks soul....you know what fuck you guys the man can play an EVERY ARTIST SPECIALLY MUSICIANS PUT SOUL INTO THEIR JOBS IT DOESNT MATTER IF YOU CANT FEEL YOUR BITCHING SOUL.....riffguy you are awesome man ignore those noobs....soul...pff winning bitches

  • oh and by the way I mean noobs when you think that a fucking bend= soul got that?

  • must reiterate what others have said....bloody great technique, but no feel...i cant watch another Malsteem guy...the good news is, you already got what it takes to make people cry, u t gota use it...

no i didnt say i can rip better...just need a bit more feeling and direction!

  • R.E.D. S.T.R.A.T. R.I.P.P.I.N. = "Real Entertaining, Demonstrating Skill That Reveals

    Intricate Playing Per Intricate Note"

  • thats insain!

  • Riffguy, YOU FUCKING rock, a real oldschool guitarist.

  • You've got great technique. But it's just here to help you play music, melodies. Not too run scales. :\. Sorry.

  • you def have the skills bro but like everyone else says put some feeling into it...the best parts are when you throw some long bends in there and take a break for a few seconds

  • It's funny, when I play slow & bluesy....I get complaints that I didn't play fast enough and when I play fast, people want slow bends. I think this video is pretty much what I intended it to be. I have several shades to my playing, whether it be fast & articulate or slow & soulful, it's all driven by feel.

  • Hey, I "felt soul". You've got some nice bends in there, and there's nothing wrong with some noodling...you will never please everyone, don't even try. I saw someone post that "Bach is overrated as a composer because his compostitions are so simplistic". HUH?!? Whatever. You've got plenty of heart and soul and technical chops as well.

  • awesome

  • u look almost exactly like Yngwie, and plays like him too!

  • Nice man!! Good vibrato too!

  • fast, but put some feeling into your licks bro lol...

    turning into the next yngwie

  • very skilled indeed! Problem to me though is that it lacks soul.

  • Yep it's as easy as that ! Love to see you on a treadmill lol ;)

  • Love it...you got soul brother.

  • ha ha ah ha.

Yngwie a plenty, gotta love that stuff!!!.

    check out my vids!

  • All FLash No Soul.................:(

  • shut the fuck up

  • I changed the neck pickup on a strat for a mini humbucker.

Don't bother it was a waste of time.

    Good vids by the way.

  • was the 7th note in the 17th measure an e or e flat?

  • B major triad sus 4596²

  • ...funny...I don't think alot of people "got it"...

  • Yngwie fan by any chance?

  • Yeah....like...do you listen to Malmsteen? hehe

  • You look like Jack Black hahaha, But you fuckin rock. and Jack aint got nuthin on you.lol. Keep shreddin bro!!

  • Do you have tuning problems when you use the whammy bar on a non-loking system? I need a double locking Floyd Rose for me to stay in tune using a whammy bar.

  • It goes out a bit but I've learned to adjust my playing to sound in tune when it slips out.

  • my last comment was a reply to an earlier comment. and it ended up here. god damn this system. anyway, i think this is the riffguy-video i like the most. you're amazing.

  • bravo

  • riffguy how many guitars do you own?

you are seriously the birthchild of a guitar. Which one? and people only comment if you have seen all this mans videos if you are bashing or saying something that is critical

  • I've lost count......I always like to have a backup guitar, then a guitar to back that one up.....and so on....and so on.....

  • is that a fender squire strat????

  • Maybe it's very impressive but i don't think it sounds nice...

  • shreddddddddinnnng asss fooo! dope man =]

  • benimmt sich wie ein A....loch !

  • are your pickups stock?

  • riffguy, how do those classics interact with a high gain ampifier? as you know, im getting an ENGL, and i was thinking of a classic.

  • They seem to work well with high gain amps and are extremely quiet.

  • thanks! it looks like thats what ill be getting.

  • thinkin the same thing soren650

  • The tone is very Yngwie Malmsteen/Van Halen like..

  • that's the most amazing strat tone i've heard...definitely gonna have to try that pickup setup.

  • this video kicks asss so does that rED STRAT@!!!

  • u cud sooooooooo kick yngwie's ass

  • i need to get a phat cunky tone... please sir... help me achive this.. i have an american strat... but i cant make it sound like that

  • marshall amp

  • dont call it "phat"

i beleive he uses marshall's, jcm's and a major... this is a strat with a dimarzio HS-3 in the bridge and thats all you need for this tone.

  • Actually, this Strat has a Seymour Duncan Classic Stack in the bridge position and a DiMarzio HS-3 at the neck.

  • oh. very cool! i might look at that... thanks for telling me that!
