I also just wanted to mention, though you may already know, but it only really affects concentration. It doesn't assist in comprehension. For instance, if one tries to read Immanuel Kant's or Albert Einstein's works and can't really understand them, then it's not a miracle drug that will change that fact. It helps deal with stress and depression and lack of focus, which are all normal during finals week. This is quite unlike a steroid, whose purpose is to increase ability.
Also, I've thought about the job question before. That's a different issue really; you don't need Adderall to remember stuff you learned while taking it, so whatever method I go by to aquire knowledge or skill, the fact that I have it still remains. Nobody owes you or I a job, and it is up to the employer to pick the best person for the task. Do you want an inferior engineer building the bridge you drive on just because the one with a 4.0 GPA took pills on finals week?
I'm in college, so I know what you mean by competitive, but that's not what competitive means, unless you're talking about a Math contest or something. Whether I get good grades by taking a drug doesn't affect anyone else's ability to get a similar or superior grade. Competitive sports and contests offer prizes, salaries, etc to the superior competitors, and therefore it's not a correct analogy.

If one person takes a drug to study and take an exam and gets an A, and another doesn't and gets an A, the latter doesn't lose any privilege or validation because of the former. I have a hormone deficiency that requires anabolic steroid injections daily, and I also take adderall and adderall like medications. Like the girl said, adderall doesn't make you automatically twice as smart, it just keeps you going. It's not an advantage, and there are legal prescription-free ways to achieving the same result. Steroids also dont guarantee muscles, you have to really train and work hard, otherwise they dont help you at all, rather the opposite.

Using Adderall is breaking the law---it is not cheating: Cheating involves breaking the rules of the university you attend; it has nothing to do with the Federal government. If a person cheats on an exam, he hasn't really learned the material. If he uses Adderall, he still has learned the material, and in the end that is what matters. As for an unfair advantage, that could be said of coffee if some others are allergic.

that's how it works if the dose is too high for you. you experience side-effects (like rebound AD(H)D) over benefits. that's how it was for me the first year, then i started taking half my prescribed dose. then everything was fine

I still had time to practice piano, play guitar, and paint. I tried adderall in high school with no effect

If adderall is bad because its like an unfair advantage, then so are kids with high I.Q.s. We're humans, and are smart enough to self medicate according to our needs. I've noticed that adderall helps with math and logic, but actually makes reading and things involving short term memory harder. Its not like its a magical intellegence pill, because it does have its downsides in its effects on mental capability.
Sure, it has potential for abuse, but for those who need it (including me) it can be a life saver. Before I was diagnosed I literally had no drive to do anything, even though my potential was obviously displayed via my old test scores, and even current ones. I was labeled "lazy; a lesion on society." Little be known I had ADHD-PI. It had such a profound effect on me, I could literally sleep 14-16 hours per day, for weeks. Adderall brought me out of the constant slump, to normal function.

That's a different issue really; you don't need Adderall to remember stuff you learned while taking it, so whatever method I go by to aquire knowledge or skill, the fact that I have it still remains. Nobody owes you or I a job, and it is up to the employer to pick the best person for the task. I'm in college, so I know what you mean by competitive, but that's not what competitive means, unless you're talking about a Math contest or something. Whether I get good grades by taking a drug doesn't affect anyone else's ability to get a similar or superior grade. Competitive sports and contests offer prizes, salaries, etc to the superior competitors, and therefore it's not a correct analogy.

Moronic. There's no zero-sum game when you take an exam. If one person takes a drug to study and take an exam and gets an A, and another doesn't and gets an A, the latter doesn't lose any privilege or validation because of the former. Some peoples' body chemistry doesn't allow them to function well in a modern society, so we have a drug to help. It's immoral to deny them a genuine shot at an education just because one feels it's cheating, even though one suffers no direct loss at their success.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I have been taking Aderall for three years now every single day, and it has completely changed my life for the better. I hate when people draw the conclusion that it's cheating, because in reality when they're smoking and drinking at parties, I'm in my room studying. My 22 yr old son died from Ritalin overdose of his ADD drug he had been prescribed since age 12. Research the facts these drugs are schedule 2 drugs which means they are highly addictive drugs. Add the pressure to succeed, and please Mom and Dad, and you have trouble. I wish the doctors would have warned us before. Why didn't they want to take him off these drugs after a few years. I have a hormone deficiency that requires anabolic steroid injections daily, and I also take adderall and adderall like medications. Like the girl said, adderall doesn't make you automatically twice as smart, it just keeps you going. It's not an advantage, and there are legal prescription-free ways to achieving the same result. Steroids also dont guarantee muscles, you have to really train and work hard, otherwise they dont help you at all, rather the opposite.

Why does the media keep inventing problems like this? Using Adderall is breaking the law---it is not cheating: Cheating involves breaking the rules of the university you attend; it has nothing to do with the Federal government. If a person cheats on an exam, he hasn't really learned the material. If he uses Adderall, he still has learned the material, and in the end that is what matters. As for an unfair advantage, that could be said of coffee if some others are allergic.

Adderal is a re-uptake for the chemicals dopamine and norepinephrine. Norepinephrine is a neurotransmitter and hormone, dopamine is a neurotransmitter. Both drugs mess with the pineal, therefor mess with your meletonin. Meletonin is a hormone that regulates all the hormones. Lack of meletonin = lack of sleep = insanity

First of all, adderal works. It makes you better able to acquire and store information and better able to recall it later even when not using the medicine. A great doctor or engineer is largely so because of their ability to do these things. And as good as may be, they would be better if they had studied while on adderal.
I don't look at it like steroids, I look at it like shoes. We can walk just fine without them but what would a baseball game look like. Or a marathon.

that's how it works if the dose is too high for you. you experience side-effects (like rebound AD(H)D) over benefits. that's how it was for me the first year, then i started taking half my prescribed dose. then everything was fine
I soon realized that doctors prescribe high doses compared to what most people actually need to help them

@guitarobsessed85 - i've tried yoga and types of deep meditation. they help me with stress but i'm still left tired and scattered, since focusing itself makes me tired - e.g. after reading a few pages of a book, i don't remember anything i read & i feel tired.. always been that way. i have a processing problem (dyslexia) too
i won't judge anyone else, but i tend to believe the reports that claim AD(H)D is often mis/over-diagnosed.. because few are properly tested for it

Other people doing adderall shouldn't make you feel like you have to take it. I went through my undergrad and masters programs for Biochemistry without ever needing anything except black and green tea. I graduated with a 4.0 both times and I spent only about 2 hours a day studying. 4-6 hours of class a day 4 hours of labs every other day and about 3 hours of study sat and sun mornings. I still had time to practice piano, play guitar, and paint. I tried adderall in high school with no effect

If adderall is bad because its like an unfair advantage, then so are kids with high I.Q.s. We're humans, and are smart enough to self medicate according to our needs. I've noticed that adderall helps with math and logic, but actually makes reading and things involving short term memory harder. Its not like its a magical intellegence pill, because it does have its downsides in its effects on mental capability.

Sure, it has potential for abuse, but for those who need it (including me) it can be a life saver. Before I was diagnosed I literally had no drive to do anything, even though my potential was obviously displayed via my old test scores, and even current ones. I was labeled "lazy; a lesion on society." Little be known I had ADHD-PI. It had such a profound effect on me, I could literally sleep 14-16 hours per day, for weeks. Adderall brought me out of the constant slump, to normal function.
