Would be great if we could pull out of the Middle east and end the wars, but getting rid of income tax? Income tax pays for schools, colleges, recreational areas, road maintenance, etc...Note voting for Ron Paul because of this
We can start with cutting military spending by 90% by taking away all bases on foreign lands and ending these senseless wars.. but that will not happen America is doomed
...The savings and tax revenues of migrant workers should be dispensed fairly to southwest border communities who feel taxed and besieged by Latino immigrants. It certainly isn't fair that they should have to deal with the burdens of immigrant unemployment and crime all by themselves. This is a fundamentally non-Libertarian and anti-Statist view, but I think it is more fair. "Racism" is just an obvious deduction one can walk away with from such a platform with such narrow focus.
I've stopped trying. I've written pages upon pages of why this man is a lunatic populist built for people who are scared, ignorant, angry and gullible. It always ends up getting the same response, "But my Ron Paul shirt says Ron Paul on it, and so Ron Paul Ron Paul I hate mexicans... Ron Paul."
I'm Mexican and love Ron Paul. If "my" people want to come over here, let them do it legally, as required by my country. I know, it's pretty "out there."
Do you realize that the people you are pissing all over (and believe me, most people that love Ron Paul do not love you back) pay taxes? They are also bringing millions of Mexicans out of poverty? You need to stop listening to AM radio and hating yourself.
You need to stop convincing yourself. You don't know me. In the primaries I was at every single meet up group in my area. Nothing but love on my end. I had a blast and it reinstated my fire in politics.
Do you know what the Federal Income tax pays for? Do you know how it was conceived? Do you know what fiscal conservatism is?
Ron Paul says, "When government spends money, it spends money in a non-productive manner."
What the fuck is wrong with that? That is right. That is what is happening.
Simplified solutions for simpletons. Ron Paul is a populist xenophobe, and he appeals to angry ignorance. Returning to the gold standard is the laughing stock of contemporary economics, only dingbats and easily manipulated "libertarians" think that it is a viable solution to any of our problems. Meanwhile, we'll actually solve all the problems. You can continue whining about them at your meet up groups. Good luck paying for that enormous wall across Mexico!
The gold standard gave rise to ROME, BRITAIN, and AMERICA. Only have you saw a switch to an unbacked fiat currency did you see those empires fall. It's simple and that is why it works. That's why you see state initiatives in Colorado, New Hampshire, trying to bring back a hard standard currency.
Isn't it sad that we'd actually start to put up a wall because Mexican citizens aren't responsible enough to entire a country legally? I know when I go to Mexico I don't sneak in.
As to the gold standard, I don't see it as a particularly libertarian strength to compare our nation on two failed Imperialist states. Part of the failure of the gold standard is rooted in the international economy. What Paul and Schiff are not telling you is that throughout America's history with the gold standard, unemployment was past 10%. 10-15% was the norm in fact. Currency rushes are a common occurrence under the GS, and those tend to be disastrous for everybody.
We're not talking about a gold standard anymore and either are these men. They are free-market capitalists, which I don't necessarily agree with or totally disagree with, but the new "hard standard" could be paralleled and driven by our GDP. Nobody is acting like there is enough gold in the world, especially in the United States to return our systems to a precious metal driven market. If we become a producing nation again and balance our money out with that of which we produce: Stability.
"...we become a producing nation again and balance our money--with that of which we produce: Stability." Nobody disagrees with that. Part of the reason why the Paul team and factions in the Cato and American Enterprise tanks are pushing for GS is that it keeps money indoors. Fiat encourages massive amounts of int'l investment. This has been a contributor to our way of life on levels Paul does not address. What is Obama doing? Trying to turn us into a nation of producers again. It's hard.
I also believe you've taken this crusade against Ron Paul out of ignorance. The reason Ron Paul is a staunch supporter of legal immigration is because it is law. When is it wrong to abide by law and that of another country's? How the fuck is that some sort of xenophobic thought? When I travel, I recognize and obey laws of the country I enter. It's what you should do as a human being. There is much to be desired in immigration reform, but that doesn't mean we are racists or hate mongers.
Of course it is necessary to abide by the law, but surely you must know that the sentiment that Paul and the majority of his supporters are expressing is not a weighed and calm showing of jurisprudence. The gist of it Paul's position is that the those South of the border who come here "illegally" (never mind immigrants from other countries, this is a Latino issue) cause crime, take more than they give (not true), take jobs, and overwhelm small communities (the language is usually not so fair).
The problem arises when people are "slightly legal." Most of these people are working the jobs that American citizens do not want. They pay taxes and support the creation of products that all of us take for granted. For instance, California's 28 billion dollar agricultural empire would not exist, and none of us would eat so cheaply, if it were not for a large migrant force of workers.... The issue is complicated, and is part of living in a competitive, free market.
I believe to some extent you're automatically branding all Ron Paul supporters and even Ron Paul himself as some sort of subtle racist. That's unjust. He's an old stubborn fiscal conservative that wants everybody, American and not, to abide by the constitution that was set forth by our founding fathers. As a constitutionalist, immigration would be evaluated at a state by state level and decided as such. Your crusade is skewed.
I know the origins of anti-federalism and I know the thinkers whom Paul adheres to. This does not change that I think he is a) a fraudulent libertarian who does not understand the roots of libertarianism\socialism (yes, they used to be on the same team) and b) a populist demagogue in the same vein as Ralph Nader who is more interested in his own arena of ideas than in pragmatics. Of course, if you shoot blindly you'll hit some targets, and there are many things on which I agree with him.
What is blind about sound money policy? Right now, we are in economic free fall by spending more money, borrowing more money, and regulating interest rates on a fiat currency. Let's take the right sized steps in the right direction before we deal with your brand of idealistic socialism. You're putting the cart before the horse, but I 100% hear your concerns, as they are mine too. You're raging against someone who's beliefs may differ in theory but will be great if practiced long term; I.E. FED.
We are in total disagreement over what sound money policy actually is. The reason for the stimulus, and the majority of economists, even fiscal conservative ones, are accepting that this is a terrible pill to swallow, is that inflation and debt are bad but they are nowhere near as bad as deflation and depression. What we don't want is a decade of 10% and higher unemployment rates, as this costs even MORE. We are choosing the lesser of two evils.
And as to whether Ron Paul is a racist: No, I don't think he's a racist, but he does represent mainly border mentalities, and his views on immigration are slanted toward an anti-Latino immigration bent. The border wall he endorses is most certainly racist, as it is not only a deeply embarrassing symbol of American xenophobia, it would be an excessively costly and wholly ineffectual blight on the landscape. ..
90% of everything ron paul said went over his head. Clearly hes not listening, like most of the media. Ron paul is a true expert, people need to really listen to him.
