  • did she/does she have trouble controlling her bladder?

  • @howardkevinm yes she does...four months after the accident she became incontinent. since this video was made, she has lost most of the muscle from her ribs on back...no control at all.

  • That is wonderful to see her doing so well. I am looking to buy a wheelchair for my elderly yellow lab, Heidi. She has arthritis in her hips, and is approaching her 20th birthday and can no longer stand up on her own, but can walk a bit before tiring out. I'm glad to see the chairs work so well. I can't wait to get one for my girl! :)

  • @LadyVirbra Thank you so much for you kind thoughts. Well, I haven't updated this in a while, but Lita is still doing well, though now she really can't use her back legs anymore , so I have to use the foot holders on the back of the chair to keep her feet off the ground. It actually works better that way instead of the shoes. Also, she has lost most of the mass from her middle on back and that has weakened her up considerably. Still, she really is hanging in there...

  • @LadyVirbra That's quite a story of your dog Heidi! Go for it I say..if the dog is still capable of moving around, the chair could still keep the dog going for a while longer hopefully! Please do keep me apprised...I'm glad my video found you and Heidi! Best of luck to you both! ~Walter

  • @SuperBerserkers : ) Thank you very much. She is a one of a kind dog, and it really is the least I can do for what she has given me. Lida's doing very well this week, and lately she's been picking up a little speed on the flat areas from time to time...which is fine with me! : ) Thank you again.

  • The love that you showed your dog is so heartwarming that it cheers me and brightens my spirit. As we age sorrow accumulates in our bodies and chips away at our overall sense of happiness; but just watching you video and seeing the complete change in Lida into a happy, waggy-tailed dog in her wheel chair is so "purely delightful" that the delight jumps off the screen and stirs my heartstrings and I feel the same joy Lida feels. She is blessed to have such a "wonderful man" who cares for her.

  • @sandrakarwel That was so very kind of you to say, and it honestly gives me a resounding sense of accomplishment that this has worked out so well for Lida. She has adapted quite well since I got the chair in early February...it has indeed been a learning experience...one of obligation and of patience. Animals do have that effect on me..the true innocents...she does depend on me, but I guess I'm a bit of a baby because I do depend on her...it's just a part of human nature I guess. : )

  • So sweet, it is so wonderful someone cares so much about their dog. I just love this video, Lida looks so......... happy with her wheel chair.

  • @sandrakarwel Thank you...I really appreciate that. Lately, I've been putting her feet in the stirups, and she's really been picking up the speed! She's learning. : )

  • UPDATED: My vet has informed me that the dog does not have Degenerative Mylopathy but that she has IDD Intervertebral Disk Disease.

Since this video, she is now placing her back feet a little better without dragging them. She is now on Glucosamine Chondroitin. too.

  • ahh poor dog, ohh well its life cant help it =p

  • I have a pyrenees in a wheelchair for a different diagnosis and she does well in it outside. I found that it was critical to carpet as much of the wood floors inside as possible to help her get traction.

  • @handyssc2 I generally try to keep her out of the kitchen these days, but she has that knuckling problem when she goes out in the backyard...even on the carpet, too. I just try and leave those shoes on as long as I can...they seem to help a bit. Thanks.

  • She looks much happier in the chair.

  • @myangel833 Thank you..yes she is happy, and I strongly feel that Walkin Wheels will keep fit enough to reach her maximum age. It looks promising.
