This is the definitive interpretation of this work! Never heard such perfection. It is usually butchered in every way imaginable, and I have listened to many variants, But here everything fall into place. I personally believe that the finale of the 5th symphony is better than the 6th (many experts will disagree). A perfect interpretation like this one do however prove that I'm right.
You make such musical sense out of this very complex structure....! I've heard many recordings of the greats playing this... and with only a few exceptions... this by far is my favorite!!!
Magnificent ending! I have to ask: with everything coupled to the great, is the action heavy? I've played on older, two-manual trackers that left my arm muscles in pain after a toccata, but having four manuals coupled looks very difficult.
@Audinos Actually it is all coupled to the Grand Choeur (man 1) but this is why Cavaille-Coll had the brilliance to have the barker machine to ease the action.
Spectacle extraordinaire, interprétation et musique à couper le souffle;St Sulpice fantastique
