Running around a field is not reason to use a taser. Only when they are dangerous and are armed when taser should be used. When people or the officer can't control a perp. Say what you want, the safety of others is always an issue whenever an arrest is to be made. @sportietom First off its called a tazer, which is vastly different from a stun gun. Secondly they are in no way torture, here is a quick lesson on how a tazer works. It uses electric currents to convulse the muscles. There is minimum pain involved in contrast to something like say, pepper spray, which works off the concept of blinding and inablitating pain.

They're there to protect the $100,000,000+ investment teams have in players and coaches - a few years ago a TEENAGE kid and his dad attacked the first base coach for K.C. during a game. Glad you're a mind reader but police aren't. When they ask someone to stop and they don't, this is what happens.

Running around a field is not reason to use a taser. Only when they are dangerous and are armed when taser should be used. Why do you think every person who ran on the field before was being chased for hours? That's what is appriate in this situation. Police are just out shape and lazy to catch him!

@wiseguyknowsit You would pull out your taser if someone in front of you was armed?? I'd use my gun in that situation. This is the EXACT purpose that tasers were designed for. When people or the officer can't control a perp. Say what you want, the safety of others is always an issue whenever an arrest is to be made. He would be more likely to be injured by being tackled than tasered. Using a taser, it is unlikely that those making the arrest will be injured too. This worked out great for all.

@Agentom339 Your fucking dumb, tazors are not for disarming purposes, they are used to stop all muscle movemnt when a cop has suspect that's fleeing or not listening to the orders given. When a suspect is armed the cops generally use guns to take them down, don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

The fact that this was a baseball game is inconsequential. He was trespassing on private property and didn't yield to authority.

Change "17 year old" with "Suspected Bank Robber" and put them on a city street and you'd say it was fine to taze him if he didn't stop when asked to. As for tackling him consider that from 2001 to 2008 334 people were killed worldwide in incidents involving stun guns (used by police and private citizens). In the year 2006 13,300 people in the U.S. died from falling.
Statistically, it's safer to tazer someone than tackle them with a person being 278 times more likely to die from falling than being tazed.

According to local newspaper reports he isn't a complete dumbass. His dad is a engineer for Lockheed Martin, he apparently gets good grades, and is accepted to Penn State-Berks for next school year. He also was not using drugs or alcohol when he decided to run out onto the field. In addition, his mother has made him write the Phillies an apology.

Excuse me, but the stun gun is forbidden in most democratic countries AND it's not harmless at all. There are plenty of examples of people killed by a stun gun.
To me this is plain torture.
And to some "what if" people here. Do you see a weapon? His shirt? Of course that guard/cop can see this guy isn't armed. I'm shocked (funny isn't it?) there are "civilized" people in favor of the use of stun guns.

@sportietom First off its called a tazer, which is vastly different from a stun gun. Secondly they are in no way torture, here is a quick lesson on how a tazer works. It uses electric currents to convulse the muscles. There is minimum pain involved in contrast to something like say, pepper spray, which works off the concept of blinding and inablitating pain.
