i agree coldplays earlier album was much better than the tripe that was found in x and y! but i still like coldplay! amsterdam's piano music i love! and speaking of piano music if anybody has any info of piano music could you please contact me? please! this is an awesome track!
Okay I agree- opposites are easy to do an I do like Coldplay's first album when they still had some humility and invention. I think I can make my case with the following excerpt from the multi-platinum album X & Y:
And the hardest part
Was letting go, not taking part
You really broke my heart
And I tried to sing
But I couldn't think of anything
And that was the hardest part
No shit you tried to sing and couldn't think of anything! I mean how does he get away with it?!!!
That's one of the best audio live recordings I have heard off this song, that was such a pleasure to watch! Oh and it's perfectly cool to dig Coldplay and Ed Harcourt in my books. They both have merit, but I have buckets of tlc for the utterly awesome Mr Harcourt ; ) x
Of course people CAN love them both. They just shouldn't. Chris Martin's lyrics are pretty laughable, Coldplay's arrangements are dull and Ed Harcourt has such a beautiful voice by comparison! Anyway...I should just sit back and enjoy this great video instead of getting bothered!
Chris Martin would never write lyrics as good as: "I'm the Christian who cannot forgive, I'm the dreamer who jumps off the bridge" because he'd be two busy thinking of ridiculous names to call he children...
Please look up for example Things I Don't Understand, Politik, Spies, See You Soon, Kingdom Come, Everything's Not Lost.. Mind the lyrics and don't look out for just bashing them.
By the way, if you think opposites is clever writing. Mind you, it's one of the easiest things to write and make people who hasn't read/heard anything better go "oooh". I like it thought, but it's not original nor clever to the point of excitement.
God I want to transcribe this for guitar... but I'd never do it justice

also fascinated how this clip triggered a debate about the merits of coldplay, a band I do not care for.

That was an amazing performance. It gives me goosebumbs every time I hear it and I'm certainly proud to say I did the sound at that gig.
I will never forget it. If you were there, you know what I mean.

Greetings from Singapore : )
This is my fav song from"Beautiful Lie".
I really love Ed's vocals, its so rich with emotions. He is simply the best singer-songwriter I had come across.
I hope he will come to my country for a gig one day.

Ed Harcourt is a genius. Chris Martin with his primary school lyrics and whiny voice isn't.

Ed rules. If the world was just he would outselling Coldplay.

Can't one love them both? :).. if the world was truly just Coldplay and Ed would each outsell Britney or 50 Cent.

Btw, I saw Ed last weekend in Stockholm. He was great =).. but not better than neither Kent nor Muse.
