My Dachshund Baron has had seizures in the past. We figured out it was salt that was causing them. I used to let him have a potato chip or two and then the next day he would have a seizure. Since that time I will not let him have anything with salt on it like potato chips, fries things like that and he has not had one for a very long time. I did find out that Dachshunds are more prone to seizures than other dogs and also thru my reading saw that salt is a big contributor. Just wanted to share

I understand dog's minds are different than humans, so maybe you can help me out. The video says to not comfort the dog and I get that. But I have neighbors who had a retriever, and when he had seizures they'd always comfort him. After it was over he'd always give them a "doggy hug". Is it just the individual dog that determines if they'd be a little defensive or what? I do know he was pretty old, maybe the retriever was used to them and wasn't afraid anymore?
Although this video was hard to watch, I'm glad I stuck through it. My dachshund Meeko (2yrs old) just had a seizure for the first time and I was beside myself. I freaked and didn't know what to do. He's ok now. He's sleeping and appears to be perfectly fine. Thank you for having this information available tonight..
@cynthialynn18 Mine just had an episode yesterday, after a good year without having any. I'm not sure what triggers it, but it seems to be temperature-related. He was sleeping under the covers with me, then I guess he got too hot and moved out. About a minute after he was laying by himself, he started to shake and drool. Vet says as long as he doesn't hurt himself while seizing (falling off bed), he's in no harm.
Fabulous. Factually correct and sensitively delivered. Canine seizures are no joke for all involved, and this video gives all the essential information for anyone desperate to find out what is happening with their much-loved companion, and how to deal with it.
You have done a great service posting this. Thank you.
Thanks. I was talking about the seizure with a friend of mine a few months back, and mentioned how there is no information on the net that's redily accessible. He recommended putting up a video with some facts for pet owners, and since YouTube is probably more commonly used than google, it would reach a broader audience.
Thank you so much for posting this. My mini dachshund has had 2 seizures in the past and had one today that lasted over 5 minutes and I was terrified cause my vet is closed and when I saw this video it looks just like what my dog goes thru. Thank you so much.
i had a rescue dog that had seizures (she has gone to doggy heaven now at the age of 11). it was so painful to watch when she had an episode. you just want to help but feel so hopeless cause there isnt anything you can do. i hope more research goes into this so that maybe some day there will be a cure or a way to help ease their pain>

No, no! This isn't a joke! It's so sad! My puppy does this, and there's nothing I can do about it!

If uploading this video made a difference, even if it was only for one person, then my work is complete =D
