this album has a whole of oversaturated timbres... so interesting this 'composing a room for this or that song' which tom waits has a unique sounding despite from the composition indeed... sorry the english...
Woke with this song in my head and couldn't find my cd. Thank you! "Jesus of Nazareth told Mike of the Weeds "I was born at this time for a reason you see? When I'm dead I'll be dead a long time . . ."
@movieonyoureyelids@thereegar It's sad if you don't listen to any other great musicians who haven't sold out, cause they're plentiful. You just dont hear them since they're not on lowest common denominator radio or that industry cash cow spotify
I'm gonna take the sins of my father, take the sins of my mother, take the sins of my brother down to the pond... does the light of god blind you or lead the way home for you?
I dont know if its on this album, but the "whats he building in there" song, or ramble i should say, is that on this album? its been so long since ive owned it.
@Varderion I was responding to someone who asked asked what album 'whats he building in there' is on, however, when YouTube decided to change it's comment system, it gave up on all hopes of maintaining a chronology to comment replies... :)
It was directed at the guy who said he'd never heard of Tom Waits before, but thought this was cool. For some reason the Reply button didn't make my comment a reply.
@bihlbo Amen to that only just started listening to him what a beautiful sound. close your eyes and watse a few hours of your day relaxing to this thats the life.
i met him in a bar in regina saskachewan canada he was drinkin schotch on rocks and i was drinkin a glas of vodka he tought me so much jsut sitting and listening it was amazing
sigh....(shakes head sadly)....is that the best reference you can come up with? what a shallow small minded uncultured shame our children have become....
I can not believe we do not have music like that these days anymore, the man is a poet, ono who can shape feelings with words and draw tears even from those who believes there is none to shed. Maybe because he knows what pain is? I do not know, but the weight of his words carry the truth of what we carry in the soul.
I got this album from my brother for christmas.. It is truly a masterpiece.. I like the allover sound of the album.. Nice sound.. You wouldnt think it was from 2004 when you listen to it.. Les Claypool and Brain from primus play on a few of the songs and thats pretty cool too..
The instruments sound as soft as silk moving in a slight breeze.Tom Waits' voice has a monk-chanting-cowboy-crooning-sexy-bad-boy-watching-the-girls-go-by sound.
you're never alone with a bottle of bourbon and a tom waits album. the man talks to me on a level unequaled by any other!

Tom Waits is a lyrical genius -
someone who can create soundscapes
not only in his music,
but also in his lyrics.
He's got SOUL!
And the music of a man
struggling with his soul
can't help but be beautiful.
At least not to me ~
