Tubas are cooler and can go way lower than that, but I have to admit that is a kick ass clarinet!!!

@octopussperm Some Tubas go lower, but not many. Even a regular piano has trouble with this low. Also, the contrabass is one of the only woodwind instruments to go this low. Only the contrabass bassoon can. So i'd say that contrabass clarinet is cooler than a tuba. Not that I don't love tubas, they're still awesome.

@ThePlatinumPenguin yes but no the range is in the bass clef like a regular bass but it is written in the treble clef for easy switch from Bb clarinet to bass and contrabass and all others

So i switched over to bass clarinet after Bb clarinet and i thot the bass was low but damnnn after listenin to the Contrabass clarinet it kinda makes the bass look high lool. :D btw same fingerings rite?

@VipShawolELFJay Haha yeah the Contrabass has the tendency to make you feel bad about playing just Bb Bass =D and yes, same fingerings, ACCEPT for those four keys on the right side that you almost never use. On Contra, they just have one I think. I can't remember, I haven't played that bad boy for quite a while!

@VipShawolELFJay You sure can, of course it doesn't go THAT high using basic technique, but it can generally get about as high as mid-range bass clarinet. =]

@theylovemyhair889 Yup! You can relax, you don't need to learn bass clef lol =] The music is written the same, but it's just an octave down sound-wise. You might run into higher-written music, but nothing too terrible.

@catkids34 bass clarinets go for 3-10 thousands dollers depending on quality and contra bass clarinets go from 10-20+ thousand dollers....thats not cheap....my school has 3 bass clarinets and 2 contraltos...not trying to sound like an ass but i'm just saying there very expensive

@MallRatMeg No, bass clarinets use reeds comparable to tenor sax reeds, while contrabass uses reeds comparable to bari sax reeds. So it's a bit of an adjustment, but nothing too serious in my opinion.

Well a regular straight one like this usually costs around $6,000 i think. But paperclips cost about $11,000.
