I think you should keep thoughts of Barenboim's personal life out of this because it doesn't do justice to the piece. Barenboim's attitude is exemplary because he's giving other great cellists the chance to tackle this masterpiece.

The 'wrong note' you might have heard at 0'32" is a result of the shift to the next note and she either accidently didn't put the right finger onto the string in time or it's her interpretation to emphasise the climax and shape of the piece.

Regarding the note at 00:32, if I recall correctly from about 7 years ago when I attempted this song myself, there is a grace note there. And so I guess she just emphasized it. Then again, what I'm thinking of might have been elsewhere in the song, I forget :P. But I do recall seeing something in the music that De Pre didn't so much emphasize, and I was therefore surprised to see. But again, I could be totally wrong :).

@xbriannaxbananax At 00:32 what you hear is not a written note,  but just a guide note to find the position for the next note. It doesn't stand out too much to my ears, doesn't bother me in the least! She plays so beautifully! What spectacular control, intensity, musicianship! Thank god there are still performers such as this willing to dedicate their lives in such a way. Brava!

Alisa Weilerstein is a such a beautiful musician. So expressive - gushing with intensity, yet incredibly sensitive. Had the pleasure of meeting her on a number of occasions. Lovely girl with a wonderful sense of humour!

I love her playing AND this concerto! Would love to see the whole performance if possible, for a gentle comparison with Jacqueline du Pre. Thank you for posting this!
