@Bossk333 One more thing i'de like to clear up. Im 17, male and im as straight as hugh heffner. However, ignorance and predjudice is in my eyes the most destructive force available to man and should be destroyed.
@Bossk333 Well aren't you a closed minded ignorant idiot. Its important in terms of teaching acceptence and compassion. It is important to teach a child that being discriminating towards anyone different to themselves whether it be Religious, race, sexuality or mental and physical differences is absolutly NOT ok. On that note, Sex ed is important for straight and gay education. Not teaching kids about protection in a gay relationship is dangerous and quite frankly needs to be taught
We had this law in the UK know as "section 28" (google it!) which banned the "promotion of homosexualtiy in schools". Fortunately, common sense prevailed and the last government repealed it.
1 Corinthians 6, verse 9 says: or do you not know that the unrighteous will NOT inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, not idolaters, nor adulterers, not effeminate, nor HOMOSEXUALS (cont. into verse 10) nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. That is really hard to misinterpret as homosexuality, or any of the above, is not a sin. You sir, are the ignorant one.
I honestly say even though I am a strong opponant of gay marriage I have to agree with you. I think kids do need someone to explain things to them if they are having the issue. I think the problem is schools are trying to limit things too much though I think this is more of a general issue and is not limited to homosexuality. teachers should be able to address students on any issue. religion, sex, or drugs if the student askes they deserve to know its what school is about after all learning.
hehe :3 i like ur voice :) if i wasnt actually looking at the video and heard ur voice id imagine a really smart educated doctor x) in a random room in a hospital talking about this.. and off the topic im bisexual ;D
Im not gay. I wish i was. There is no reason to be ashamed of anything you are a human being and God loves everyone. Gay straight lesbian it doesnt matter. Idk what the big deal is about
Bills like this could indirectly lead to teen suicide. I do my part by saying, when some kid inevitably asks, "Are you married?" "No, I have a partner, his name is Aaron." At that point, any questioning or gay kids in earshot (or rumorshot) automatically feel less alienated. And besides, it's just a natural response to the question. Not being able to do even that is damaging. And, for the record, I knew when I was five that I was different, which is common for boys. (lesbians tend to know later)
For all the heavily religious people who dislike homosexuals. Guess what, your going against your OWN RELIGION! Bible says very specifically, love the sinner not the sin. Now while I am not a religious type of person, this whole thing is a bunch of crap. People are so afraid of mentioning any part of sex, they figure that if they dont mention it, kids wont do it. Maybe they figure if they dont say anything about homosexuals, they wont exist?
@Bossk333 please know what the word fetish and bigot mean before using them inappropriately. We're outwardly against most major religions because they are the root of the ideas that straight people hold towards gays. And that in itself is a huge generalization; there are plenty of religions that are quite accepting of gays as well as plenty of gay people who are still religious. I am not bigoted towards major religions, but I certainly dont support them, there is a big difference.
@Bossk333 Also, and I'm sorry if I'm overdoing my replies here, but you said "Your teacher isn't your fucking personal shrink." No, they aren't. But you're GUIDANCE COUNSELOR is close. This bill would prevent a gay teen from going to them as well.
@Bossk333 A bigot is defined, according to the American Heritage Dictionary, as "one who does not tolerate or respect the beliefs, opinions, usages, manners, different from one's own." If we describe homosexuality as a manor, then your spoken disdain, if I may call it that, can be defined as bigotry. (Continued in next post.)
@Name2BDecidededLater (Continued from last post) Also, gays are not outwardly against religion. One poll has found that while 72% of straight adults describe their faith as very important, so do 60% of gays and lesbians, while 56% have said that they've dedicated their life to Jesus Christ. If you wish, I can PM you the link.
@Bossk333 First of all, California has very convoluted gay rights and, as gay marriage isn't legal there, I wouldn't call it the forefront of equality. Your insults don't even make sense, sir, as the "man butt fetish" you describe is not necessarily the way gay men interact sexually with one another. Plenty of gays rarely or never perform anal sex with their partner. You seem to imply that only LGB people live in states where equality is accepted, which is untrue. Please be bigoted elsewhere
Leviticus only says it's an abomination it does not say your going to hell. Also god says to love ones neighbor and everyone ignores that rule because of an abomination. So in conclusion everybody but gays are going to hell :)
@cisforcookiee I can see why you say that, but think about it. People are censored all the time. In schools, can you curse at anyone? No. Most schools prohibit it. At least, that's the argument with this bill, as I understand.
The bible states that homosexuals will be sent to hell, but it also says that only male prostitutes will go to hell. This just proves that the bible is out of date. It was written years and years and years ago. Only some things apply. But gays should have the right to say what they are even if they can't get marries
"Misinterpreted the Bible," eh? Being gay "isn't a sin," eh? Well I guess this verse:
"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination.(Leviticus 18:22 KJV)" [referring directly to a man having sex with another man as an abomination]
from the BIble means nothing to oh so enlightened individuals like you, Dan.
@EXEveryNote And yet there are very holy people in the bible who have anal sex with their prisoners to demean them. What about them? Or, perhaps, was the true meaning of the passage lost in translation and the passage actually forbids having that demeaning intercourse with prisoners? I wouldn't be too literal with a book that was probably translated from three or four times from its original. We can only know the true meaning when the original Bible is found. That wording is key.
@EXEveryNote First of all, being an idiot, being mad and just being mistaken are all completely different things. You'll notice I never once insulted you, but you're insulting me. Since I, at the moment, can't find the sections I recall, I point out Ham as an act of sodomy, though he doens't fit my POW or very holy descriptive. I will ask that you give me a day to find the passages. If I can't, I'll admit I was wrong. Fair?
The ad next to this video while I was watching says that being gay is not a lifestyle which is correct its a sexual orientation but instead of saying that it says gays are a race and a gender which is complete bullshit and now there is an ad about a book called demonic stating that gays are evil wtf is with that I am not gay but I have no problem with gays and such that bothers me.
I don't agree with all the things you said. Some kids have no other support and they need someone to talk to them and help them. And a lot of gay people know they are gay way before middle school. If the teachers can't teach the kids about homosexuality and acceptance, then they might not have any other form of support. Kids need this education in school so that they know it's okay to be themselves and that they have people who will accept them for who they are.
I don't' agree with how he said that typically these things are taught at home. That is not true, nor do I think it should be true. I learned far more about these things and many things at school than at home. That is the same case with many people.
Basically, it seems like he does not feel that people should talk about homosexuality in school. Even when he said good things about it, he seemed very hesitant, like he didn't mean it.
So it's only okay to say things about heterosexuality at young ages? How about those awkward moments at school where something might be mentioned about a father/daughter dance or making sure you remember to have mom sign your report card, and a little first or second grader raises their hand and says that they don't have a dad, or they don't have a mom? A little kid wouldn't know any better, and other kids would be confused. So what would the teacher do then? Just tell the kid to shut up?
Yes I agree. And at school dances when kids get older, they don't understand why they may not be allowed to take a person of the same gender. sad;y, that was an issue for people at my schools. :(
Oh! I'm sorry. I didn't realize I couldn't use the vernacular of my surroundings. You can't fault people for saying it. It's engrained in their minds. Since these public service annoucements have been released, I find myself using the phrase more often. We all need to realize that gays are our brothers and sisters too. They shouldn't be treated any differently. If you're going as far as restricting speech? Let's just restrict ANYTHING negative instead. If that was the case, I'd be behind it.
I think this is the worst bill even worse than banning gay marriage yes banning gay marriage is bad and gives u less right but for me middle school was one of the most important years of my life in 6th grade is when i came to realize i was gay and i did not really have a though time because i have great friends but in 7th grade one of my teachers found out and he let me know it was okay and made me feel more confident about my self if it was not for that i would not have a adult to talk to now.
Im in middle school in tenesee(and am not gay BTW)and i think they should remove this bill from existance it is offending alot of people and showing america as a sexist place and that is the opposite of what we want to be shown as.We as americans want to be shown as the free who do not judge anyone,we want to be shown as a great country who are free of offending anyone of any race, sexuality,or religion and we are losing that because of politicians who are not leting kids explore sexuality
@hubstacker If you want to discuss gay rights as part of an intelligent discussion, you will find that Intelligent Discussion is part of, generally, all intelligent discussions, whereas Gay Rights is a sub-topic, or sub-meme.
Whether or not spelling should be taken into account depends on:
-whether the spelling is literally impeding coherence
-whether it's annoying (to the point of being nearly incoherent)
If it's simply a small mistake here and there, it's quite forgivable.
I agree with the OP. Good job on the video by the way. To comment on a few of the comments below I just want to say as I'm in school now to be a teacher. I have a friend who is a teacher and she was asked by a student who the woman in the picture on her desk was and she said her "wife". This caused a small little uproar. My friend sat in the principals office and noticed that he had a picture of his wife on his desk and pointed it out and he said "it's not the same".
@blacknite231 But Eve wasn't Adam's first wife. Nor did Cain and Abel commit incest. They married the "women of the west" or in some texts, they married Djinns. Google it.
@hubstacker This is a space for intelligent discussion. Bad spelling and grammar makes people take you less seriously. English class is where you learn how to communicate in English. If you only do that IN class, you might as well stop going.
It's the same for me Dan. My parents preferred to inform us first about sex before they began teaching about it at school. I think it's best to do it that way, and it's such a shame that many parents rely on schools to do the parenting for them.
Dan, I love you and you're vids but your pissin me off.. All you said was that anyone who doesn't agree with your views on homosexuality is wrong and that if you are gay you need to find someone who is just going to tell you everthing in the world is perfect to talk to... I thought you were a more open person.
@yoyog8r People have different opinions. The number of people who think homosexuality is okay increases every year. I don't think it's wrong. And those who think it's wrong shouldn't go around trying to change people who have nothing to do with them, who are just living their lives not bugging anyone. I do know that some homosexuals can be very in-your-face about their sexuality, but then again, many people are in-your-face about lots of stuff. Both gays and anti-gays should back off each other.
@TheSalmonShoes thats exactly my point. your an idiot. now i spelt it wrong on purpose. are you like a spelling bee nerd? one of those perfectionists. and by the way do you text? because im sure you dont spell everything write when you text.
@ooPETERo no not really, and yes I do but I still spell stuff correctly I don't see the point in spelling something wrong when you could just spell it right.
I can't help seeing the relationship between Glenn Beck's recent movement to expose the "indoctrination" of our children and bills such as these. What I don't understand is why conservatives throw around "brainwashing" conspiracy theories when the next generation completely disagrees with you. I'm gay.... and did I need some teacher "showing me the ropes?" No, but I don't think they go through all the details with straight kids either. But acting like I don't exist... what are you so afraid of?
i think sexual orientation doesnt need to be brought into the curiculem(sorry for spelling) but if a teen asks a teacher or states they think they might be gay that the teacher shouldnt have their hands tied I felt like an alien at school because I liked other girls and if i trusted a teach and went to tell them and they said im sorry i cant discuss this its like a feeling of being alone and confused. They wouldnt have to go into detail but to explain they arent alone
I think it's sick. The 8th grade, to me, is around the time when we truly discover our sexually and if we realize we are attracted to the same sex and no one informs us about it we'll just feel insecure and not "normal". And another thing is that kids are very dramatic and we all know that feelings of insecurity and low self esteem can escalate to things much worse in terms of stress relief. If we want teenagers smoking and self harming and what ever else, then sure lets not say gay :/
also, the majority of Christians do not follow the old testament, the Phelps are bigots hiding behind religious texts. the old testament is part of the torah, the Jewish religious text. the old testament is a historical document to the christian religion, nothing more. but Christians and Jews, and every other religion have the right to say homosexuality is wrong. they have their rights, and so do homosexuals. someone's beliefs do not hinder someone's sexual orientation (Phelps aside)
if parents in Tennessee say the subject of homosexuality is either best left to the parents, or not talked about at all, they have the right to say so. they have the right to tell the schools not to tell their kids about gay people. just like they have the right to say they don't want them teaching their kids about sex. their not making being gay illegal, their just saying, we don't want you teaching our kids about that
@gigabit86 Why should parents be allowed to censor schools like that? Their kids are there to learn about the real world. So, naturally, homosexuals will eventually come up. Because they exist in the real world. And there's plenty of stuff about them in history books.
@Nannirk the school is there to teach what the parents want their kids to be taught, if the majority says the subject is off limits then what gives the school the right to teach it anyways, thats like if i were to try and tell your kid something you didnt want them to hear, or know, but i did it anyways. those kids will know about gays, its gonna happen, but the school has no right to teach kids something their parents says is off limits
@gigabit86 ok so some parents may be outstanding citizens with unquestionably noble wisdom. But say there was a parent who strongly believed that african american people with dark skins are subhuman and doesn't deserve equal rights and wants the school their kids go to, to not teach them differently.
Schools is supposed to provide kids with a different view of the world from the one that they were born into so that they learn to make educated opinions for themselves.
@yenn3001 thats completely diffrent, i'm saying the fact that some people are homosexuals doesn't matter, i'm straight, no one cares, my friend is gay, no one cares, i have white skin, another friend of mine is hispanic, no one cares. we all need to just ignore it, these diffrences don't matter. we're all human. homosexuality is something that should be taught in sexual education, which parents can opt their kids out of. outside of that it doesn't matter
@gigabit86 my point is schools are supposed to be a place that teaches kids everything from letters to maths to virtues.before school kids are only ever exposed to the world from their parents point of view which may not be a bad thing but isn't always a good thing.school is a stepping stone from the little world of their families to the rest of the world.if parents can ban their school from teaching kids a different view point to their own then kids will never be able to make their own opinions
@yenn3001 alright what if i put it this way,if one school was teaching kids that being gay is a sin,and a choice, and parents stood up and said they don't want the school teaching their kids that, everyone would agree and the school would change.so why is it different if a school is teaching elementary students about homosexuality, and the parents say that's not appropriate.
@gigabit86 Calling it a sin is the difference. You're basically saying there's no difference between talking about homosexuals, and calling them sinful. Is calling someone a "nigger" or a "kike" the same as mentioning Africans or Jews in history class? No.
@Nannirk your pushing two of my points together. calling being gay a sin and parents saying its wrong and the school changing was my first point, and my second point was that whether someone is straight or gay doesn't matter. "so and so did this and he was gay". "so and so did this and he was black". really it should only have to be "so and so did this." then sexual education is where people should get into the difference between being gay and being straight
@gigabit86 america is a democracy not a dictatorship, the state doesn't decide what values your kids will learn, the parents do, the democratic majority within a school district decides if something is inappropriate for their children.
No one should be allowed to limit what is taught in school, as long as it's true. If you don't like homosexuals, don't send your kid out. It's really that simple. If you don't like your kid learning about homosexuality, pull them out of school. Don't punish all the other kids. I'm fairly confident that this isn't something all the parents have voted on. This is not based on the majority of voices.
@yenn3001 schools are supposed to teach kids about the basics.in history you learn about things people did it shouldn't matter if they are gay or straight or black or white. parents have the right to choose how their kids are raised, and in a democracy, majority rules. if the majority says teaching elementary school students about homosexuality is inappropriate, then the school should accept that. if one or two parents stood up and said that and the majority said it was fine. well majority rules
@gigabit86 if we had always kept true to the "majority rules" mentality then chances are women wouldn't have the right to vote today and 'blacks' would still be in chains.schools are supposed to cater for the needs of minorities as well.as for schools were teaching that being gay is a sin/a choice- that's wrong because it's forcing an agenda, and in the same way, teaching kids that homosexuality is the only normal way to be would also be wrong.schools should teach kids in an unbiased manner
@gigabit86 plus kids will always have full access to the internet and media so sooner or later they are going to find out about homosexuality (and sex) whether their parents want them to or not.it is much better if they learn it in an environment that's promotes equality and acceptance than some of the horrors that can be easily found elsewhere.there are some things kids need to know whether or not their parents want them to know about it- things like sex, STDs, condoms and sexuality
@Nannirk your completely missing the point, if a black gay man in america invents something that changes the world tomorow, it doesn't matter that he's gay, or black, the fact that he's american is more information that should be included but not necisseery, when talking about the USSR, of course russia should be a focal point, it all depends, but we shouldn't care about someone's sexual orientation or skin color. because we're all equal
@gigabit86 The school is there to teach. That's all.
Leaving out important parts of society when educating someone about the world, is tantamount to lying.
If you don't want your children to know about homosexuals, don't let them leave your house or enjoy any reading, music, tv, movies, radio or internet access.
Denying your kid the chance to learn the truth is the same as lying to them. How will they be prepared for the real world when it's being censored?
I don't see many positive sides to a lot of people becoming gay or leaving the closet. But I don't see any negative sides. It kind of makes me feel a bit odd when watching two men doing stuff that a male and female would do, but I guess it's because I get bullied all the time about my brothers homosexuality.
A positive I see is that, it could lower birth rates considerably. People would adopt more kids. I think that's good.
because I sure as hell didn't choose to be gay. I didn't choose to be criticized, bullied, and frowned upon. I would gladly be heterosexual if I had the choice, but I didn't choose. We're humans too, please treat us as such. We need proof that it gets better.
@steviesanity i simply cannot believe how people can judge others based on who they find attractive.
and heterosexuals come on, i'm pretty sure a homosexual (a regular one, not a psycho) would not try to rape you so stop being homophobic !! seriously what are you afraid of?? just because they are attracted to the same sex doesn't necessarily mean they're attracted to you, or even if they are it wouldn't mean they'd necessarily rape you!! i mean c'mon !! do you rape every hot girl you see?
@olemiss5678 Wow...this may be an assumption, but did you just unsubscribe from pogobat because of the whole topic of homosexuality and you got butthurt because he called you ignorant? Because you just proved a point there...
I don't know about Tennessee, but in some states teachers aren't allowed to speak about religion in schools.
If that's the case, and the question of if homosexuality is offensive due to religious issues (which it normally is), then either make them both okay to speak about or both banned. They go hand in hand.
"If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death" (Lev. 20:13).
...it seems that contemporary christians are actually pretty moderate compared to their books primitive demands.
i am 10 and my school has a know your body class and the teacher is like "so you wonder what sex is right? well, the simplest way to say it is penis through vagina, if the penis reaches a certain point the girl might get pregnat. after about nine month a baby is born"
@Zoriel03 No, MANY Muslims don't. So do many Christians. And many Jews. And some Pagans. And some Hindus. Please stop making generalizations because they spread ignorance.
Teaching that matrimony is a sacrament gives to a religious clergy the power to judge the lawfulness of marriages and ecclesiastical censure for divorce.
The government of men's external actions by religion, pretending the change of nature in their consecrations cannot be esteemed a work extraordinary, it is no other than a conjuration or incantation, whereby they would have men to believe an alteration of nature that is contrary to the testimony of sight and of all the rest of the senses.
For all heterosexuals - how old were you when you realized you liked the opposite sex? For me it was the fifth grade. It's the same for homosexuals. Not saying gay is not going to stop people from being gay.
this is a dumb topic.... ITS 8TH GRADE, they're too young to to decide if they're gay or not. and you dont just go "hmm, i think i just turned gay" i dont think it matters, honestly i dont think that people up to age of 18 can really even say that they're gay because their hormones are acting up and getting them confused. and if they're told its okay to be gay (which it is) at a young age they'll always be gay.... you let them decide themselves without encouraging them either way. my opinion
@shadowsangheili Honestly, I don't think you can say that unless you've had feelings yourself. You don't just turn gay. Do you know when I knew I was a lesbian? 5th grade. I wasn't going through puberty then, and I still knew.
@Name2BDecidededLater yeah but there's no proof that you weren't just confused and stuck with that idea. little kids are very resilient unless an adult tells them different. in 5th grade ive heard of girls killing themselves because someone someone called them ugly. I don't think it's a choice, but i dont think its gene, that BS. ive felt sexual feelings for other guys, but that was like when i was 12. a year later, it stopped. idk im still debating with myself
@shadowsangheili And that's perfectly fine. I was merely pointing out that there are plenty of LGBT people who know about their orientation or gender identity before age 18.
Ignorant, really, did you just call St. Paul, Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit ignorant. Nice job, tick off the world and the heavens Dan. Good thing we all forgive you, but think about other people's religions, alot of religions, before you think of the minority of homosexuals.
@00duke1 So we should think of the oppressors instead of the people being oppressed? Should we have thought of the slave masters before the slaves? Made sure Hitler was happy before we thought of the jews? No. So, I will give more thought and attention to the homosexuals that are being held down to try and help them instead of helping the oppressive religions keeping them down.
@seankenny08 Slaves out-numbered slave masters, Jews out-number Hitler. If you haven't relized, Democracy is based on majority. Religions that specify homosexuality is a sin, out-number homosexuals. I'd like to point out that I don't hate people because of their beliefs, I don't hate people period. I was only offended when Dan called me, my religion and whom I believe is the creator, "Ignorant". I believe being homosexual is a sin and is a influence of Satan, but I don't shun homosexuals.
@00duke1 Homosexuals are substantial, physical and you can touch them. Can you touch religion? Does religion feel sad if you talk negatively about it?
Does religion commit suicide because of bullying?
No. If Jesus and God are so good, righteous, all-knowing, forgiving and loving, they wouldn't care about being "offended". You shouldn't care, because you aren't the one being labelled a freak. If God forgives all sinners, then who are you to judge them? Follow your own religion. Love thy neighbor.
@Nannirk You're absolutely right. I agree completely, we shouldn't be offended, because God's on our side, and nothing really matters aside from that, except one thing: follow in Jesus's footsteps. It is our obligation as Christian to spread the word. I don't, and I wan't to make this explicitally clear, I do NOT hate homosexuals. If I knew a homosexual, I wouldn't call him a freak, I wouldn't harass him or ignore him. I would try to have him recognize the truth: God loves him, sinner and all.
@00duke1 I liked your comment, right up until that last sentence.
No one can claim to know the true will of God, so no one can judge anyone based on that will. Therefore, calling someone a sinner is ridiculous, and pointless. Do not presume to speak for an all powerful, all knowing being. That is just stupid. We all know God didn't write the Bible. It's made up of several different texts, relating to man's interpretations of God's will.
Stop judging your fellow man as inferior. You're no better.

We had this law in the UK know as "section 28" (google it!) which banned the "promotion of homosexualtiy in schools". Fortunately, common sense prevailed and the last government repealed it.

Name2BDecidededLater 7 months ago
@Bossk333 A bigot is defined, according to the American Heritage Dictionary, as "one who does not tolerate or respect the beliefs, opinions, usages, manners, different from one's own." If we describe homosexuality as a manor, then your spoken disdain, if I may call it that, can be defined as bigotry. (Continued in next post.)
Name2BDecidededLater 7 months ago
@Name2BDecidededLater (Continued from last post) Also, gays are not outwardly against religion. One poll has found that while 72% of straight adults describe their faith as very important, so do 60% of gays and lesbians, while 56% have said that they've dedicated their life to Jesus Christ. If you wish, I can PM you the link.
Name2BDecidededLater 7 months ago
@H2drO34 What do you mean?
Name2BDecidededLater 7 months ago
@Bossk333 First of all, California has very convoluted gay rights and, as gay marriage isn't legal there, I wouldn't call it the forefront of equality. Your insults don't even make sense, sir, as the "man butt fetish" you describe is not necessarily the way gay men interact sexually with one another. Plenty of gays rarely or never perform anal sex with their partner. You seem to imply that only LGB people live in states where equality is accepted, which is untrue. Please be bigoted elsewhere
Name2BDecidededLater 7 months ago
Leviticus only says it's an abomination it does not say your going to hell. Also god says to love ones neighbor and everyone ignores that rule because of an abomination. So in conclusion everybody but gays are going to hell :)

The bible states that homosexuals will be sent to hell, but it also says that only male prostitutes will go to hell. This just proves that the bible is out of date.

That wording is key.

doggod106 8 months ago 18
I don't agree with all the things you said. Some kids have no other support and they need someone to talk to them and help them. And a lot of gay people know they are gay way before middle school. If the teachers can't teach the kids about homosexuality and acceptance, then they might not have any other form of support. Kids need this education in school so that they know it's okay to be themselves and that they have people who will accept them for who they are.

@TheFemaleIcelander

BizarreAndrogynous 8 months ago
So it's only okay to say things about heterosexuality at young ages? How about those awkward moments at school where something might be mentioned about a father/daughter dance or making sure you remember to have mom sign your report card, and a little first or second grader raises their hand and says that they don't have a dad, or they don't have a mom? A little kid wouldn't know any better, and other kids would be confused. So what would the teacher do then? Just tell the kid to shut up?
eclipsedreamer 8 months ago
@eclipsedreamer
Yes I agree. And at school dances when kids get older, they don't understand why they may not be allowed to take a person of the same gender. sad;y, that was an issue for people at my schools. :(

I can't help seeing the relationship between Glenn Beck's recent movement to expose the "indoctrination" of our children and bills such as these. What I don't understand is why conservatives throw around "brainwashing" conspiracy theories when the next generation completely disagrees with you.

They wouldnt have to go into detail but to explain they arent alone
rachelchurchill 9 months ago 2
I think it's sick. The 8th grade, to me, is around the time when we truly discover our sexually and if we realize we are attracted to the same sex and no one informs us about it we'll just feel insecure and not "normal". And another thing is that kids are very dramatic and we all know that feelings of insecurity and low self esteem can escalate to things much worse in terms of stress relief. If we want teenagers smoking and self harming and what ever else, then sure lets not say gay :/
IlluminatingParadox 9 months ago 8
also, the majority of Christians do not follow the old testament, the Phelps are bigots hiding behind religious texts. the old testament is part of the torah, the Jewish religious text. the old testament is a historical document to the christian religion, nothing more. but Christians and Jews, and every other religion have the right to say homosexuality is wrong. they have their rights, and so do homosexuals. someone's beliefs do not hinder someone's sexual orientation (Phelps aside)
gigabit86 9 months ago
if parents in Tennessee say the subject of homosexuality is either best left to the parents, or not talked about at all, they have the right to say so. they have the right to tell the schools not to tell their kids about gay people. just like they have the right to say they don't want them teaching their kids about sex. their not making being gay illegal, their just saying, we don't want you teaching our kids about that
gigabit86 9 months ago
@gigabit86 Why should parents be allowed to censor schools like that? Their kids are there to learn about the real world. So, naturally, homosexuals will eventually come up. Because they exist in the real world. And there's plenty of stuff about them in history books.
Nannirk 9 months ago
@Nannirk the school is there to teach what the parents want their kids to be taught, if the majority says the subject is off limits then what gives the school the right to teach it anyways, thats like if i were to try and tell your kid something you didnt want them to hear, or know, but i did it anyways. those kids will know about gays, its gonna happen, but the school has no right to teach kids something their parents says is off limits
gigabit86 9 months ago
@gigabit86 ok so some parents may be outstanding citizens with unquestionably noble wisdom. But say there was a parent who strongly believed that african american people with dark skins are subhuman and doesn't deserve equal rights and wants the school their kids go to, to not teach them differently.
Schools is supposed to provide kids with a different view of the world from the one that they were born into so that they learn to make educated opinions for themselves.
yenn3001 9 months ago
@yenn3001 thats completely diffrent, i'm saying the fact that some people are homosexuals doesn't matter, i'm straight, no one cares, my friend is gay, no one cares, i have white skin, another friend of mine is hispanic, no one cares. we all need to just ignore it, these diffrences don't matter. we're all human. homosexuality is something that should be taught in sexual education, which parents can opt their kids out of. outside of that it doesn't matter
gigabit86 9 months ago
@gigabit86 my point is schools are supposed to be a place that teaches kids everything from letters to maths to virtues.before school kids are only ever exposed to the world from their parents point of view which may not be a bad thing but isn't always a good thing.school is a stepping stone from the little world of their families to the rest of the world.if parents can ban their school from teaching kids a different view point to their own then kids will never be able to make their own opinions
yenn3001 9 months ago
@yenn3001 alright what if i put it this way,if one school was teaching kids that being gay is a sin,and a choice, and parents stood up and said they don't want the school teaching their kids that, everyone would agree and the school would change.so why is it different if a school is teaching elementary students about homosexuality, and the parents say that's not appropriate.
gigabit86 9 months ago
@gigabit86 Calling it a sin is the difference. You're basically saying there's no difference between talking about homosexuals, and calling them sinful. Is calling someone a "nigger" or a "kike" the same as mentioning Africans or Jews in history class? No.
Nannirk 9 months ago
@Nannirk your pushing two of my points together. calling being gay a sin and parents saying its wrong and the school changing was my first point, and my second point was that whether someone is straight or gay doesn't matter. "so and so did this and he was gay". "so and so did this and he was black". really it should only have to be "so and so did this." then sexual education is where people should get into the difference between being gay and being straight
gigabit86 9 months ago
@gigabit86 america is a democracy not a dictatorship, the state doesn't decide what values your kids will learn, the parents do, the democratic majority within a school district decides if something is inappropriate for their children.
gigabit86 9 months ago
@gigabit86 That, to me, is ridiculous.
Nannirk 9 months ago
@yenn3001 schools are supposed to teach kids about the basics.in history you learn about things people did it shouldn't matter if they are gay or straight or black or white. parents have the right to choose how their kids are raised, and in a democracy, majority rules. if the majority says teaching elementary school students about homosexuality is inappropriate, then the school should accept that. if one or two parents stood up and said that and the majority said it was fine. well majority rules
gigabit86 9 months ago
@gigabit86 if we had always kept true to the "majority rules" mentality then chances are women wouldn't have the right to vote today and 'blacks' would still be in chains.schools are supposed to cater for the needs of minorities as well.as for schools were teaching that being gay is a sin/a choice- that's wrong because it's forcing an agenda, and in the same way, teaching kids that homosexuality is the only normal way to be would also be wrong.schools should teach kids in an unbiased manner
yenn3001 9 months ago
@gigabit86 plus kids will always have full access to the internet and media so sooner or later they are going to find out about homosexuality (and sex) whether their parents want them to or not.it is much better if they learn it in an environment that's promotes equality and acceptance than some of the horrors that can be easily found elsewhere.there are some things kids need to know whether or not their parents want them to know about it- things like sex, STDs, condoms and sexuality
yenn3001 9 months ago
@gigabit86 Are you saying that when learning about the Rwandan genocide, it's irrelevant that the millions of people who died were Tutsi?
That Africans & their descendants are an irrelevant element in the emancipation proclamation?
Are Jews irrelevant when your kids learn about the Holocaust?
That religion is irrelevant when learning about the current political situation in Israel/Palestine?
Are the details of your national holiday irrelevant because your king was British?
Of course it matters..
Nannirk 9 months ago
@Nannirk your completely missing the point, if a black gay man in america invents something that changes the world tomorow, it doesn't matter that he's gay, or black, the fact that he's american is more information that should be included but not necisseery, when talking about the USSR, of course russia should be a focal point, it all depends, but we shouldn't care about someone's sexual orientation or skin color. because we're all equal
gigabit86 9 months ago

We need proof that it gets better.

and heterosexuals come on, i'm pretty sure a homosexual (a regular one, not a psycho) would not try to rape you so stop being homophobic !! seriously what are you afraid of?? just because they are attracted to the same sex doesn't necessarily mean they're attracted to you, or even if they are it wouldn't mean they'd necessarily rape you!! i mean c'mon !! do you rape every hot girl you see?

I don't know about Tennessee, but in some states teachers aren't allowed to speak about religion in schools.
If that's the case, and the question of if homosexuality is offensive due to religious issues (which it normally is), then either make them both okay to speak about or both banned. They go hand in hand.
