God put man in control of the earth (Genesis 1:26, 1:28, Psalm 8:6). Man must have a free will, otherwise man would not have been created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26).
So man is controlling the tectonic plates, the seas, and the wind? Do we also keep the electron orbiting the atom? No? Then apparently we don't rule this earth to the degree which you might imagine.
Man was created in the image of God - but we are in no way equal to Him. Try to create something out of nothing, and you'll get the idea as to the limits of your will.
In Peter we are told that it is God's will that none would perish; ie, it is God's will that all will be saved. But CLEARLY that doesn't happen. So God's will is His desire, but, like us, not all of His desires are fufilled. Most parents are very familiar with this tension of reality. That's part of why Jesus always called God Father, and why the Father called Jesus the Son in whom He is well pleased. God's will can only be fufilled in a 100% submitted person.
So, the Creator of all things is not in control of everything that happens? Does this guy READ THE BIBLE??? God is so in control that all His plans are done on perfect timing. Dude can't even BREATHE by himself, talking about God isn't in control? God can't HEAL ppl? So doctors can fix certain things but the God who's created your body and the very doctors you pay to heal you, can't?? Get out of here. This is blasphemy, and he clearly needs salvation!!
The first 40 seconds of this video are amazing but after that he just drops into straight heresy unfortunately :( Any truth within Christianity can be referenced back to scriptures and he doesn't even make an effort for that here just says that I think this or that ect.
@akinohibi Cont. We don't pray to other people to "work" things for good. We pray to God alone. And, if you would look at verse 8;27, you will read that the Holy Spirit "maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God." Clearly, God is the one working things, not man. However, I do agree with you that we do have our parts to play, but it's a movement that FOLLOWS God's movements, not the other way round, and certianly not on equal footing. God Bless you.
Bart Campolo is merely stating his opinion based on his own line of reasoning but this is not the God as Scripture defines Him. God does not need to be "let off the hook" for the bad things that happen. And He is in control of everything--absolutely everything. He "works all things according to the counsel of his own will." Eph. 1:11 He says of Himself, "I form the light and create darkness, I make peac and create calamity; I, the Lord do all these things." Isa. 45:7
2 extremes. 1. God is in cotrole of everthing. Everything that happens is as the result of His will (a discusting thought). 2. God is not in controle. There is nothing that He can do when people want to do there own will and thwart His (an equally repulsive thought). Truth? God can do what ever He wants when ever He want's to. He can even chose NOT to do something which seems to be His choice at times. He can but often chooses not to.
@patriotsfan1379 If you read my entire statement I mention that view as being an extreme (and one that I don't agree with). By no means do I believe that God just sits and does nothing. For a more complete picture of what I would say on this view watch?v=j9zZgbPaNR8
It's humanist thinking like this that actually draws people away from the One True God of the Bible. Romans 8:28 is clear - "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." If you believe what this man in the video is saying, then you are denying the God of the Bible, who is love, but not as defined in HUMAN philosphy. God is in total control, and we only love Him at all because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19
@1aliveinchrist No your understanding of scripture is flawed. Please look how the original verse is actually translated and you'll find that that verse does not mean the universe works to fulfill God's will, but that in all situation, God works WITH US to bring out good. I say WITH US because the verb used in that verse suggests God working with another party, which would be us.
@akinohibi The verse taken alone, without a fuller understanding of Scripture, might render your reading, but in truth, God is the one who works all things, including how people are used to bring about His purposes. I am sure you did not mean to imply that God lets man be on equal footing with HIm so to speak so that He must wait for what we do in order to make His purposes come to pass. No. God is the one working all things, and this is why we pray to GOD to move and change people's hearts.
Knowing what happens and being in control of it are two different things. God knows everything that will ever ever happen, the good and the bad, but he can't do anything about it. If he did, that would be breaching the agreement he made with Noah. Bert is so right. All God can do is love as and be there for us, and give us the chose to love him. If its not a choice, its not love.
Bart Campolo is very egotistical - to the point that he feels that his views supercede what the Bible teaches us about God. I agree that not everything that happens in this world is God's desire - that is called sin. But the fact is that God COULD correct anything or do anything. He could take control in a milisecdond. Instead He has given us the opportunity to right those wrongs in His name and with His help. I don't think that Bart Campolo's god is able to do any of those things.
ALL NATURAL MEN SAY NO TO GOD'S LOVE. THIS IS HERESY!
Isaiah 64:7 There is none that calleth upon Thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of Thee: for Thou hast hid Thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.
The "god" that this man is speaking about is NOT the Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient, Immutable God of the Holy Scriptures! this man's "god" is a fraud.
@ProclaimHisWord You're interpretation of his teachings are flawed my friend. He's simply saying that God's doing all he can, and he always has, which I'm sure you agree with. But until people change and accept god there will be problems and terrible anti-christian things going on. He's not saying that God is weak, but there's no denying that there's disease, starvation, and pain in this world. Do you thing this is god's doing?
Hello friend, just remember all you had to do is reach out your hands and receive the free gift of salvation that is found only in Christ Jesus. The trade off is He forgives all your sins and He imputes His righteousness to your account, hence trading eternal hell for eternal life. The "good news" can't get much better than that. But men are so wicked that they will still reject the free gift hence hell is the just punishment. God is correct to call unbelievers fools.
You should know, for you support Pelagian Pastor Timothy Conway.
Timothy Conway teaches that God's command to repent logically implies that one has the ability to repent. See my video "Honestly: Tim Conway Is A Pelagian," listen to and read Conway's own words, compare them with the words of Pelagius, then deal with it.
Is there really a need to be so cruel to one another brother? The issue between tim, october, and yourself is nothing near what this man in the video is espousing.
Wow this man makes God sound so limited and incapable. How could we trust a God that is not in control? This is out right heresy.

The God of the Bible is in control. This man's god is a false god. He has created a god to suit himself.
The God of the Bible is not just a God of love, he is also a God of wrath. Read the Bible. Repent and trust the Savior, Jesus.
