All glaciers in Glacier National Park will be gone in about 25 years if emissions continue increasing. The biggest flaw that climate change deniers could find in the IPCC report was a statement that all Himalayan glaciers may disappear by 2035, when actually, some will last a bit longer due to thier high altitude and size. The only ones capitalizing are fossil fuel interests!

Many of you are confusing weather with climate. They are not the same thing. Weather is short term, day to day environmental conditions, e.g. "it's raining/snowing/sunny today." Climate is a long term average, over at least 30 years. And it's that long term average that is changing. A single weather event is not evidence for anything long term. Climate change is also leading to increased frequency of erratic weather events - that's why scientists no longer use the term "global warming."

Just to fill everyone in...global warming means that AVERAGE temperatures are higher. Not that it doesn't get cold. Climate change brought on by quickly increasing avg. temperatures also brings with it extreme weather. Four inches of snow at the end of April in Ohio. Frost in August. Stronger hurricanes. Droughts, snow storms, the risk for severity is much higher...as I'm sure everyone has noticed in the past couple years.

global warming is not a scam, it's a fact of life. the misconception is that the planet is only warming, which is true b/c the average annual temperature of Earth is continually increasing b/c of our pollution, however a side effect of this are larger temperature extremes (higher highs and lower lows). which is why we still see snow in spring. this also creates more severe storms, like hurricanes and tornados.
Actualy, there is such a thing as global cooling, because all the CO2 is absorbing the sun light thus making it cooler, but still the rate at which ALL THE COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD are pouring out trillions of CO2 every second, thus making global warming more noticable and effective.

There's this vid by this dude RichardTrekkerTheII who is a Belgian research scientist who got banned from the scientific community for speaking his mind on this stuff and it really made me think different and get off my ass and do something. I highly recommend it.

On my site, I've tried to do something a bit different, with a music video that tells a serious story whose impact might resonate even with those who have not yet thought much about environmental destruction. This is pretty random, but did anybody else know that Raffi has a song in Fern Gully? I just realized that about a year ago, and it made me so freaking happy. Many of you are confusing weather with climate. They are not the same thing. Weather is short term, day to day environmental conditions, e.g. "it's raining/snowing/sunny today." Climate is a long term average, over at least 30 years. And it's that long term average that is changing. A single weather event is not evidence for anything long term. Climate change is also leading to increased frequency of erratic weather events - that's why scientists no longer use the term "global warming."

The Atlantic ocean seeps 40 million gallons of oil a year, without a drill touching the floor. Bacteria in the ocean LIVE off of it. That would be called winter. On the flipside, whilst the globe has been "cooling" since 1998, that year was a peak year in the trend, and if one was to expand the data set further back in time, you would see that the long-term trend over the past couple of hundred years has been increasing rapidly.

Just to fill everyone in...global warming means that AVERAGE temperatures are higher. Not that it doesn't get cold. Climate change brought on by quickly increasing avg. temperatures also brings with it extreme weather. Four inches of snow at the end of April in Ohio. Frost in August. Stronger hurricanes. Droughts, snow storms, the risk for severity is much higher...as I'm sure everyone has noticed in the past couple years.

I also wathced an interesting documentary on the Discovery channel where the scientists talked about how we are still at the tail end of the last ice age and that is why we still have the polar ice caps. global warming is not a scam, it's a fact of life. the misconception is that the planet is only warming, which is true b/c the average annual temperature of Earth is continually increasing b/c of our pollution, however a side effect of this are larger temperature extremes (higher highs and lower lows). which is why we still see snow in spring. this also creates more severe storms, like hurricanes and tornados.

Coolannie29, I've been studying environmental issues, mainly global warming, for 3 years now, so don't try to deny global warming, because I KNOW that you're wrong. If you have seen any documentaries about this issue, you would know that it IS in fact natural for the planet to warm up every certain amount of years, but it is definitely UNNATURAL for the planet to warm up THIS much.

If you, or your teacher, have seen any charts (that are backed up by real science), you would know that there is obviously something wrong. But, you ARE right when you say that it has started before the industrial revolution, but BECAUSE of the industrial revolution, it has gotten much worse. However, people today are adding to the problem even more by continuing to pollute.

no offense, and i don't deny that you've spent a lot of time studying the issues of global warming, but has it occured to you that perhaps the things that you're learning in school are incorrect? there is only speculation that it is unnatural for the planet to warm, and there is no concrete proof that humans are at fault. i mean, think about it- the green movement is highly en vogue right now, and schools might just be spreading propaganda to appear politically correct.

Wilca6974, that implies you feel Raffi should be smarter and more objective than the thousands of IPCC scientists who believe the same thing as Raffi. That insight would be very impressive for an entertainer! On the other hand, the simpler theory is that scientists whose whole life is making sense out of information and our world, may be right about human-induced global warming. Maybe we should look closely at the information? Maybe it is too unsettling....

This is pretty random, but did anybody else know that Raffi has a song in Fern Gully? I just realized that about a year ago, and it made me so freaking happy. And yea, Raffi's amazing, and I think it's amazing that he's sending such good messages in kid friendly ways, to stop the problem before it starts in the future generations.

I loved listening to Raffi when I was young and I knew that he made an ecology album, but this is ecology to the maximum. I'm 19 years old and I may have outgrown songs about beluga whales, but I still like to listen to what he's got now.
