What I don't get is if the theory of Natural Selection is true then how can both ape and man survive ? Surley the point of evolution was a mutation which gave, what came to be, homosapiens a selective advantage over Homoerectus ?. There hasen't been any speciation for both speicies to be seperate either so i don't understand at all :o Basically contradicts itself.

@Dirtybeest The answer is different adaptations in different environments. That makes different population of the same species evolve in different directions. As the changes slowly accumulate the two populations becomes more and more different and will slowly have less chance of successfully interbreeding. When the two populations no longer can produce fertile offspring we call them different species. This process has been observed both in labs and in nature.

Gorillas have involved, they are as a specie much more recent as our last common ancestor, some 8-10 milion years ago. ALL current species are relatively (including "living fossiles", which is an approximative word) recent because the environment changes constanly, even bacterias, ever heard of resistance to antibiotics?! Transitional fossile don't prove definitely the evolution, but they exactly match what this theory predicted. But all current branches of biology converge in this direction. Anyway, evolution is not a theory any longer, it is a hard fact observed in living species which environment changes (bacterias, plants, insects, even lizards). For human beings, it will take of course more time to observe: 1 generation lasts 25 years and natural selection is now limited because of medicine.

True, there is no agreement to whether or not Homo Sapien Sapiens and Homo Sapien Neanderthanelsis are closely related, but they are still classified as "sapien" by some scholars. So he was not really incorrect in calling them "sapiens." They did have a larger brain then us though, go figure.

It's called natural selection. Basically, over years it was less and less needed that us need hair to completely cover our bodies. But we really do have hair everywhere just not as thick. Its a scientific theory which means it is a framework that is based on millions of facts...in science "theory" is a stronger word than "fact". It takes a ton of testing and evidence to climb to the rank of "theory". Saying evolution is just a theory is like saying evolution is just the best collection of facts we have.
