I am 38 yrs old and I KNOW that The Guess Who did this song in the early 70's. If people had a clue of what they were talking about they just might be dangerous. This song is by a Canadian band about American Women going to Canada to run away. Listen to the lyrics. Randy Bachman wrote this. I was privileged enough to see his solo project in 1994 in Virginia Beach and it was AWESOME.

In a warmup before a show Bachman started playing this riff and then the band joined in and Cummings started singing these words. It is not about women at all, American Woman is the United States.
