  • basically use the whole neck ...loli will in a min,, Wait and see , will post my take in a bit,,, ha,, this is got to be sick... cool track.. be right back..

  • Great track but isn't it A Blues?

  • I would rename this in G Phrygian, it just makes life easier when it comes to finding the tonal centre when improvising. Still, fucking awesome backing tracks.

  • rock?metal? this is only epicness.

  • Unreal Track!, will video respond if I get around it. :)

  • shut up everybody about scales ....just use your imagination

  • you guys are all wrong that say this is prog rock or prog metal anyone that plays music know that this is cumbia/reggeton...you guys are all dumb...

  • It's just a vamp, not much prog going on here.

  • "Hey guys, this isn't rock." Here how you sound?

  • FUUUCK THIS ISNT PROG ROCK, ITS PROG METAL.

  • Hey this aint progressive rock, this is more metal, like progressive metal

  • actually this is G phrygian, minor obviously.. but the tonal center is G so u can't say it's in C minor.. u can USE the scale of C minor, which actually is the same of G phrygian... nice track

  • @rcbpgpg This helped a lot, thanks!

  • This sounds like in the vain of Joe Satriani

  • It's impossible to improvise with a track that has Petrucci in it.

  • @luizjanela Don't worry he can't improvise either.

  • @Sunderlanding

    Troll harder.

  • @ChainsawVsGod Suck harder. You're dad will never get hard with that wimpy suck.

  • whats progressive rock about this?

  • Guys I really like the sound of this backing track, what sorta bands is this is the vein of ?

  • no but seriously fuck this who wants to play to this shit i keep clicking on it by accident and every time it reminds me of a back sound track to a nintendo game

  • Maybe you could come up with a better one.. oh wait a minute you cant make anything just shit on things that others create....what a uninventive pussy.

  • Why is "progressive" now defined as shredding? Howe, Lifeson, Hackett, et al never "shredded."

  • This for some reason sounds good w a G minor scale.? I played it In that scale and sounded good,

  • i love it

  • D Phyrigian Dominant sounds. amazing.

    just sayin

  • Hi dudes, try to play diferent minor modes like; natural minor (VI), frigian (III) dorian (II) locrian(VIIb5) or minor pentatonic all with the C on root. Do not centrate in C like a natural minor, thake it better like an only C - . Try too with harmonic or melodic minor....

  • @THEsyntheticFresh The tonal centres would be different if you used modes over it.

  • My fingers hurt.

  • @vampslayerace well your back is gonna hurt cuz you just pulled landscaping duty.

  • Try playing over this in G Kumoi Scale :)

  • dammit...it's not so progressive.. stop you cunts... jeroenguitar is correct, this is just in Cminor/Eb major......

  • OK... enough is enough... there are 4 bars of C Dorian (G Minor)... then it modulates to C minor for another 4 bars, and then it repeats... that's all there is to it.

  • Phrygian dominant ^^

  • idk, but I would improvise on a Gmin pentatonic over that backing...

    why does it say cmin?

  • @SIGroxxx Nope you would solo in CMinor Pentatonic in this piece. G is in this key where phrigian mode is located

  • most awesome backing track i have ever heard.

  • u guys spend to much time talkin bout shit, i make it up as i go, ,,,,,

  • You can use,

    Cminor

    DLocrian

    Eb Ionian (Eb major)

    F Dorian

    G Frygian

    Ab Lydian

    Bb Mixolydian

They all have the same notes so it all sounds great:)

  • @jeroenguitar

In the beginning riff you want to use C harmonic minor or G phygirian dominant. It changes depending on where the song goes, but as it goes back around into the intro riff, one would use those scales best.

  • @jeroenguitar people who leave comments like this make me mad. i mean really really mad.

  • @gibbie31 Why?

  • @gibbie31 Right. Nobody knows how to analyze music the right way anymore.

  • @gibbie31

You need to calm the fuck down then.

  • @ChainsawVsGod 'haha!

  • @jeroenguitar Thanks for your help! I tried some Minors Harmonics as DLocrien#13 with yours and it's sounds very great too.

  • @Ichigi000 I'm glad i could help you;)

  • @jeroenguitar Nice spelling for Phrygian :p

  • Comment removed

  • @jeroenguitar I disagree. The tonal centres would be different and would lead to a lot of clashy chords.

  • @jeroenguitar Duh?

  • G phrygian and C minor have the same notes

  • sounds complicated. but interesting.

  • I think this is in G Phygian. That's what I used..

  • This sounds like it's in the key of Fminor.

  • @ShareefAddo its becase In C minor/Eb major F is the Dorian mode, which both pentatonic and dorian scale both have similar 'Shape' as i would call it. You would play pentatonic in 8th position. 'C'

  • @Nickdiaublow Oh ok i see. I should know this by now

  • @ShareefAddo No problem music theory isnt really what im best at anyways

  • @Nickdiaublow

no, you've got it all wrong. this is in the key of W and a half flat sharp and 3 quarters divided by -6.374523.45.2

  • @Fluffypopcicle Sir! Did you study at Berkley this is amazing I never thought of this in the key of W, it works! This is a breakthrough in music theory!

  • @Nickdiaublow

i was raised as a zen buddhist and we believe that reality might just be an illusion created by our brains so i figured there might be a key of W!!! bath/and logic ftw!!!

  • @Nickdiaublow

btw that last comment was a joke. i feel the need to say that for some reason.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Haha your comment is on top which is a comment of my comment :)

  • @Fluffypopcicle I tried playing in V and Q over this. I had issues with getting the sharp flat to sound right at times.

  • @KatsuGuitar

it takes practice, but once you get it it sounds awesome!

  • @Fluffypopcicle someone doesn't know how to read music haha, jk

  • @Fluffypopcicle hahaha love it. I agree, the key of X min is a tricky bastard. You need to play with only your thumbs and anus. But once you get the hang of it... G Phyrgian baby.

  • @Fluffypopcicle and that's only the first verse O.o

  • mix it up c minor and c oriental scale... sounds preaty weird but intresting

  • or you could completely rape this track and play in g phyrygian :D

  • guys. try out g harmonic minor or g minor. sounds best to me.

  • @Dreadlocker3 That sounds right because G is the Phrygian mode in the key of D# major and the relative minor of that is C Minor. The reason it sounds right is because The Phrygian Scale and Harmonic Minor sale share a lot of notes.

  • @Dreadlocker3 The Reason G harmonic minor sounds like it works in this song is because this song is in D# Major, and G is the Phrygian mode of that key. And Phrygian mode and Harmonic Minor share a lot of notes together.

  • I dont think of this is in C minor. These scales follow the progression: G phrigian, Ab lydian, Bb Mixolydian. All these are modes of C aeolian or C minor. But you really have to think of how the harmony works for each chord to make it sound good

  • can you post a link to download this track?

  • yeah this is pretty good

  • I really liked that track.

  • The key progression I use is G Minor, D# Major, then A# Major

  • Comment removed

  • i wish i made this backing track. this is the sickest riff to solo over

  • This is so awesome to shred your nuts over

  • I LOVE PROG ROCK!!! this backing track is the best!!!!!!!

  • theory question

F# minor is the relative for A major

now how can this be used or what significance does it make when playing

thanks for any help on this

  • It means that the F# minor scale has the same notes as the A major scale

  • thanks

yeah I knew that but I was trying to think does it mean anything more

the closet I can think of is that it is the Aeolin mode and when used you would center the tonality off the F# instead of the "A"

  • Sorry not sure what you mean, but if you play a scale relative to another one, and you play that scale itll sound different ofcourse :) Im not sure if theres anything more to it, but im not a theory buff either :P

  • c-minor melodic is bueno too

  • c-minor melodic is bueno too

  • this is my new favorite thing

  • YEAH! I asked my guitar instructor about Phrygian and all the other modes and stuff tonight, and now it makes a LOT more sense. This mini argument sparked my interests, thanks guys!

  • I love the theorynerd speak in the comments section. Way-to-go all you cats who know your theory and use it well.

  • Love this backing track! ;) ^^

  • Comment removed

  • its using all the same notes as "c-minor" but you are starting it off with the 5th interval in the c-minor scale, making it either "g-lydian" or "g-phrygian" (i think it's phrygian) read more theory on modes, and that should explain it.... also this scales shares all of the same notes as "d#major" the only thing that makes these scales different is your starting note... this just changes the "mode" not the "key signature"..

  • @xxxguitargodxxx1989 I didn't know that. :/

But Im just saying most people find it easier to just go off the Major/Minor key than one of the modes. But thanks for letting me know that.

  • actually it's e flat major. the parallel major. d# major would have b# minor as parallel, which would make it 9 sharps in the key signature. think.

  • Fifth mode of a major scale is Mixolydian.

  • prepare for the first video response. =D

  • this is fucking awesome!

  • c minor sounds great guys.

  • Key?

    Chords?

  • man this is a rare opportunity for prog rock improvisations!

  • Oh dude. This is sick!

  • G phrygian also gives it a nice proggy feel

  • 5*****

  • Best so far! *grabs guitar

  • Bb Major/G minor is the key.

  • Bb-Major

At least D-Phrygian sounds nice. Try it...

  • KEY KEY KEY?

  • I wanted to subscribe just from hearing this, but I already subscribed!

    Good work.
