Muslim Honor Killings? What is really going on?

You say that Islam has advocated for women's rights in saying that "they should be treated the best". You seem to assume that "the best" measures up to secular standards of equal rights. However, it seems to me that this "best" can be easily interpreted to mean "best for my family" and "best for my honor"--where is it explicitly said that "best" means "non-violence"?

Muslim treat women very well, in every religion, from the genesis women are said to be not as strong and superior as men. That is misunderstood heavily. The only thing it means is that the man has all the responsibility. First of all, in all cultures whether they be Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu and even pagan have had serious issues with treating women as a human being. Not too long ago, as in early 1920's, women actually had to fight in the United States for the right to be considered a human being and have a vote equal to the vote of a man.

@blackplight4u In our country our legal system and social structures don't punish women for shopping or leaving the home without a male guardian. There are always going to be wife-beaters and low-class trash; however, they get jail time here whereas they get a free pass in the shittier countries. Society is at its best when it's governed by rational-legal authority and secular values. In the civilized world, religion has a shrinking role outside the private home.

Henry the VIII beheaded a number of his wives for little or no reason. The culture is so deep within western value system that they reflect there inner pain on us? You're right, in fact I studied Henry VIII for a long time, he was a very insecure person who basically would kill people for disagreeing with him just a little in theology or politics, he felt his "honor" offended and so he cooked up all sorts of false adultery charges against Anne Boleyn to justify killing her. He also killed many ministers and advisors and even COMMONERS because they also didn't blindly follow his beliefs.

He even invented his own church to justify this!

However one big disaster of the modern world is that many colonized Muslim nations essentially adopted the ways of the Europeans - with all their arrogant prudishness and obsession over duels, blood feuds, and "honor". It was THEM who made a huge deal out of sex/pedigrees and gossiped over it so much.

This is completely ludicrous. Henry VIII killed his wives because he wanted to marry again. The Roman Catholic Church told him he could not - so he killed his wives on charges of adultery. An honor killing is much more loose than this. I don't disagree with the fact that in the past women had violent pasts in Western societies. But in today's society - the Western world offers more rights for women. One of my friends was killed in an "honor killing". Her dad killed her.bf.
