It probably wasn't even Beyonce that was inspired by this dance... it was probably the director. Unless Beyonce directs all of her own videos (which i'm sure is highly unlikely).

@wimbletone I believe it is an expression of feminist themes and feminine sexuality. She is definitely making a statement here. Keep in mind the area of the world it is coming from too and take cultural differences into account as well.
@wimbletone For me it's about not only feminist themes, as @Lissagirl99 put it, but also themes from the feminine world in general. The repetition in the choreography makes it look like that even though women are different, they all deal with the same issues inside, things that come with being a woman. When they adjust their clothes repeatedly, for exemple, it shows the insecurity about looks that most women have, etc.
This is way better than Beyonce's this was done in a simply beautiful artistic form. Now lets see how many of Beyonce's fans get angry when Beyonce won't give them 2 seconds of her personal time xD
is Beyonce supposed to walk around with an "inspired by" t-shirt? get a f*ck*ng clue. gosh.. does she walk around claiming to be a choreographer? she's an entertainer. sit yall miserable *sses down & adore the performance.
Personally I think this dance is about female adolescence and growing up, to me the actions show rebellion and exposure of youths to the adult world. It is although they are showing off their bodies as you do through your teenage years, falling over and catching themselves as they stumble through growing up and turning into woman. Personal opinion but yeah I think this dance is beautiful.
I'm confused....Beyonce's video looked just like this and she or her pr is saying she was inspired by Audrey...Why? Because of the way her hair was and she was wearing tights? I mean she obviously took her whole video from Anne - this isn't being inspired it's called plagiarism
i don't get it? what makes this so special? I'm a guy and I can tell you that it doesn't make my dick hard. so it's not ''sexy''. this is just a bunch of random moves being performed in synchrony. it also looks like they're trying way to hard. it doesn't look elegant at all. but i geuss this is ''art'' so people like it.
The thing is, if you're going to "copy" someone's style, SAY SO. It would have been fine if Beyonce came out before the video and did a campaign about her influence for the song and video came from. At that point she would be humbling herself to the greats before her, she would be drawing inspiration from others (which is something every artist does) and she would exposingart to the masses! Anne T.D. Keersmaeker should be known, and it's Beyonce's civic and artistic duty to expose great art.
Wow millions of people now know of Ann. Now millions of little boys and girls know that there is a bigger pallet for inspiration. Also this looks a lil like Jerome Robbins

@LalaliciousX She didn't do it better, neither of them "do it better"... They are both just done in different styles; This is contemporary, modern (for its time), and beautiful. Beyonce made it sexy, cool, and fun. BOTH are good !
Its funny everyones saying beyonce was better and if it wasnt 4 her no one would know Ann but guess what? Ann was big and good enough to inspire beyonce so hahaha!!!!!!
@DaFinestDyme You are right. Ann is one of the top in her field and people need to keep in mind that these are dances from 20 + years ago and a German choreographer so it is no surprise that the ignorant American public didn't know who she was.
Poor misguided commenters below. Artists like this work behind the scenes, pushing boundaries of our culture. @davidvirgodc Whatttt. She was obviously recognized before Beyonce just not by you. SHE COPIED HER. she didn't just get "Inspiration" from this but she literally copied the outfits, the moves, the settings, etc. I love Beyonce but uhhhh... she can make up her own music video & not take someone elses
Are you serious. Beyonce did this chick a damn favor. LOL. Nobody in the world would have watched this otherwise. Those chicks in Beyonces video are fresh and hot. Thise chick look like Once Flew Over the Coo Coo's Nest.
@akrinea I agree. The first function of the art was give pleasure, entertrain. But now a day, people just forget it and retrict the art more than it is. People just see the art for the wisers and into academics discutions. Art was made for everybody, not to be a retriction that few choose people can enjoy it.
@ValyHxM Why don't you try to explain what art is?! Maybe Kery Hilson also made a copy of Beyoncé, Diana Ross, TLC and etc in her videoclip Pretty Rock. Y'all really don't know what is plagiarism. Obvious the Anne's choreo is better. It's her choreo. Beyoncé just used pieces of it in a diferent way.
But try to think with me: Why a choreographer of a superstar would put in risk the all carrer it her because of a plagiarism.
This is not plagiarism at all and the proof is that nothing happend.
This looks like the dancers are synchronizing with the dancing.... And yes this is probably not as great as Beyonce's video.... But taking ones work and making it yours is not the answer. If Beyonce really was inspire she would at like acknowledge Ms. Keersmaeker, but she didn't. She took the woman's choregraphy and made it her own hoping that no one notice that it belong to someone else..bottom line.
I don't know wether to like or dislike this video.. It's like I understand it but then I don't want to its weird... Looks like there possessed and shame about it also they keep fixing shirts n touching hair and looking behind them ...I don't know I kinda get it and kinda don't it is creative but it looks like there trapped inside there own selves. Wierd something like a form of possessed ..
and they sued beyonce? man if not countdown video you're "stupidly ala mystic video for prisoner woman with dirty hair" would never see the light! seriously I'd never heard of anne whoever and I don't like this weirdest video and "music" actually not music, sounds. So beyonce brought me here!
did anyone notice how the views for this video went up sharply after beyonce's video came out,, seriously this chick needs to be thanking beyonce and God that anyone was actually "inspired" by this because she just seemed conflicted to me...
@CCuteTeddyBear I know but it's about something different than any Beyonce fans are used to. She's a lover and about her man. But I think this is about a different type of love or feeling.
This is what beyonce' stole? Wow. I mean it is different and cool, but really beyonce, you couldn't hire someone to think of something Similar to this?
well I am actually glad Beyonce used this cause this was have just remained in the archives catching dust ... yes Bey should have "citied?" but i dont know how one suppose to go about citing the source of inspiration on a music video :S ..doubt it would be like a term paper ..anyways this was weird and now a very weird 30 years old movement has become iconic through someone else which I think is the reason why everyone is so upset cause god knows i can only watch this for 1 min or so
@anike118 Please tell these people! Beyonce's peeps are always looking for the best in choreography, and if they can be inspired by someone (in another country) who is doing something TOTALLY DIFFERENT than anyone else in the US, then so be it! Her choreographers are introducing other forms of movement to the masses through Beyonce...because she IS "pop culture". If they didn't, America wouldn't even be exposed to this type of dance unless they are dancers themselves.
@parrisab1 funny that 'pop culture' is almost thirty years behind. if the people in the dance world had not pointed it out, most of bey's fan would still think that it is a pop video with 'cool' images and ideas that bey came up with. i dont think most would have mind if bey at least acknowledge or better yet hire ATDK. shakira also used modern dance in her vid 'did it again', however unlike bey, she hired the actual choreographer.
this is abstract minimalism, so the significance is also minimal as well. there is less emphasis on interpretation as there is on physical patterns and their relationship to the music and beat. i have to admit i can only watch about a minute of it before i get bored because everything looks the same to me. you can even skip 10 minutes ahead and the dancers are doing the practically the same movements.
@MizzAlli1 I think these girls are horny, but afraid to let anyone see, so they just keep going with their mundane lives. Soon, the urge to be sexy and then restrict themselves becomes a part of their mundane habitual lives.
@spaniardmale77 Really? Why do we have to hate on some really great artists like Lady Gaga and Beyoncé? Just because they may have used someone else's idea doesn't mean she has no talent and is "Desperate to be a true artists". Why can't we just love all of the artists and move on with our lives?
To: Beyonce, stop "drawing inspiration" from other peoples work and be original...you've been accused on several occasions of stealing or taking credit for others work...why don't you avoid the negativity and try another approach...walkin around with a prosthetic belly...why people ask...to boost album sales of a was flopping album, increase attention, and not ruin that dancers body, an obsession my late hubby MJ had...so there...delusional fans get a life...and a brain
this comment will be we last were we use Beyonce name. Thank you who forget Beyonce and just enjoy this wonderful film. Forgot Beyonce. She try to remake this, but she was too weak for this. So leave Beyonce Fans this film. Thank you v.much.
Beyonce didn't "steal" anything or try to pass it as her own. Before the video even dropped the director released a statement citing the references they used. No one paid that any attention. But as soon as one person screams "thief" that's when every wants to act concerned. Stop being mindless sheep and learn how to do some damn research before pointing the accusing finger.
@ChrisBee0290 Why don't they call people they want to be inspired of before? because im 'bout to tell you one thing it's Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker herself who screamed "THIEF" first! so... hope you understand what i mean...
@mychoo12 It was actually bloggers who did it. Her statement came a day or two later. True, contacting her would've saved a lot of drama. But honestly, that probably didn't go through their heads. They more than likely thought that if they cited their references, that'd be more than enough. An honest mistake, in my opinion. I understand your point though.
@ChrisBee0290 sorry but they are in this industry since years and years... i think they don't want to pay anything to people they steal ideas!! thats why they call it "inspiration"!! i dnt find another explanation!!! weird weird weird she is or they are...
Anne Teresa should continue until they go to trial if that can make them stop!!!
@BiancaJ808 Thats your fault for being ignorant thinking modern pop stars are Artist when their crap won't last. Anne Teresa is highly respected in the Art world. Beyonce is highly respected in...clubs . All Beyonce had to do was aks permission, or acknowledge the artist. But she did not. She stole it & tried to pass it of as her own for $ & to be seen as talented to her ignorant fans. Only now is she saying, was "inspiration". She has been caught & settled before- THIEF.
@BiancaJ808 u have got to be joking or a idiot she thief the girl video n the girl must thank she just cause it aint get play in the use don't mean it didn't elsewhere.....
@BiancaJ808 YOU haven't heard of her but Anne teresa is a very well-known and respected artist in her field. Her choreographies are pieces of art and a lot of work goes into them. What Beyoncé did is plagiarism and in other words that is pure THEFT! So no, Anne Teresa should NOT thank her thief. Would you thank the mugger who stole your wallet?
@BiancaJ808 I don't think Anne cares about the fame. Can you imagine someone saying displaying a piece of art at their exhibit that they didn't paint? They didn't say they painted it...but they didn't say they didn't. And now someone thinks this artist is so brilliant...from someone else's work. It's just not cool. Like that person in high school who copied your work and got an A but you got an F for cheating. Not fair.
@BiancaJ808 ...uhm this is super famous -especially in europe. I saw it when I was like 9 years old. And I think Anne Teresa should thank Beyonce when Beyonce writes her that check.......don't worry, I'll wait. LoL
@BiancaJ808 Anne didn't bring this up, she didn't even know about it at first, and when asked about it she even said she wasn't mad. But we shouldn't thank Beyonce for showing us Keersmaeker, because she didn't, we should be thanking all of those who claimed that Beyonce copied her. If it wasn't for these videos would you have ever known where Beyonce's "inspiration" came from? No, so quit acting like she's giving her recognition.
thank you! lol im glad someone else sees it the way i do. someone else is tryna trap me in discussion about it too LMAO. im like damn, shut up, it aain't like she copied YOUR choreography so just chill and enjoy the music video. if u don't like it, stop watchin it. duh! lol folks be trippin about the littlest things. how about finding out how u can contribute your time and effort to charities around the world? lol
@sssamborambo your a liar. She said she wasnt mad but she also said that it was blatantly plagerized that that she is currently taking legal action. stop reading what you wanna read and seeing what you wanna see. and stop assuming that people didn tknow about Keersmaeker beforehand, if we didnt... we wouldnt know beyonce is a continued thief. it isnt the first time. nore the last.
@EmpressEricka I don't really remember everything I said, but I'm going to assume you're responding to the highest rated comment, in which I never said she wasn't taking legal action. However, I can't find one source that says she is, only that it's a possibility. And I didn't assume that no one knows who she is, I was arguing that no one was introduced to her through Beyonce but through people posting videos like these.
@BiancaJ808 Well she already is an acclaimed choreographer, she didn't really need the exposure. But the Beyonce thing got her some more less dance oriented and younger fans I suppose.
It does not matter to me that Beyonce stole it from her. Her other videos are all of herself, and everyone can see that she have talent. I find it strange that some say she has no talent because she has imitated the dance. I love beyonce! Sorry for my english, I'm Dutch.
@xllotte Try coming up with something original on your own. Something that u loved, struggled with, and then was inspired into creating. Then see how u feel somebody comes along and steals it to be seen as artistic & to get money from dumb fans. Then see how u would feel about somebody not even asking ur permission. And sorry to tell u...Beyonce has been caught stealing routines & even songs before. She has been sued & settled before.
Umm every1 who is sayin she STOLE is an idiot...she clearly was paying homage 2 this beautiful dance....whit is wat she did the WHOLE vid...pay homage 2 different times..and Artist..smh...some ppl r jus plain idiotic...she clearly knw wat she was doing..close minded ppl
Wow, everybody that has commented are so clueless!!!! Do your rsearch, Anne Teresas's niece Elena is a choreographer whom, while trying to make a name for herself, refused to work with Beyonce after being approached by her to work on her B'day tour. Going as far as tweeting beyonces talentless money-driven motives and resending this tweet 48 times!!!!! So Mrs B simply took her aunts bland critically acclaimed rosas danst rosas and making it a true "talentless" piece that officianados love, shhh!
Yeah... By reading the comments, when that's Beyonce copying it, it's awesome, but when that's other people doing it, that sucks. You people are idiots.
Beyonce has NO talent. She can sing, but that's just all she can do. And There's much better singers than her anyway. Beyonce is popular because of her former band and because she shows her ass and boobs in her videos. "Nasty put some clothes on" she once sang, do you remember?
She's a hypocrite money hungry bitch, nothing more.
@ValyHxM Wow you obviously know nothing about Beyonce. She has a true passion for her art and she works harder than any mainstream artist out there. Yeah what she did sucks but the fact that she actually dug this deep to find "Inspiration" says a lot about her appreciation for music and dance. And how can you say she has no talent and then say she can sing? And she is a great dancer and writer.
This version is better. It's better danced, more natural, has more personality and not Beyoncé's "OMG look at me I'm so beautiful and sexy I can melt an iceberg!"
Come on people, I love Beyoncé too, she's very talented and whatever... But you can not deny that this dance is just incredibly beautiful. If you can't see that, you must not have very much art in your life.
Obviously Beyoncé herself saw how beautiful this is... So don't think you're being a fan by coming to this video and saying "Beyoncé did it better!!"...
@Meryem4i3 maybe it is , too bad she would have NEVER come up with it on her own bc she is mostly a manufactured hacked....and been caught multiple times before stealing and sued and settled. Same like Lady Gaga that steals everything but the kitchen sink from other true artist and then calls herself a "genius" to her retarded monster fans that are too stupid to know the original music most of her act comes from.
I believe this choreography is definitely what Beyonce copied however to say that she isn't talented because of that is just stupid She's a great singer and you have to look at it as she has other people telling her it's ok For all we know she was told that by her management team that they had permission to do this and is just now finding out that she was lied to As for Lady Gaga she is a talented singer however yes her clothes and dances are copies but not all of us can be original all the time
@seawater86 Lady Gaga does not just steal personality. She practically steals songs and video ideas from Madonna, Ace of Base, Abba. She has practically ripped off Madonna songs and videos. Even her name is ripped of- "Lady gaga" she got from a Queen song. Only modern dumbasses that dont know about music think she is original/talented. True artist are original most of the time. She steals most of the time. And Beyonce has been caught stealing before & sued & settled multiple times.
@spaniardmale77 i can't give you a thumbs ups because i feel like artist like beyonce, gaga and shows like glee expose are youth to true art. If it wasn't for artist like them they would think dances like the cat daddy are true choreography but its not. And that is inspiring alone.
@EccentricSoulfly1 They are not exposed to true art. Lady Gaga steals everything but the kitchen sink from true artist. She steals videos, songs, even album art from Madonna, Abba, Ace of Base & others. Even her name is not original & got from queen song "radio Gaga". These thieves then represent themselves as "artistic geniuses" & unique to their ignorant fans(who dont know any music older than 5 years) &have been dumb down by media into thinking the garbage they like is good or original.
@EccentricSoulfly1 As for Beyonce, she has been caught stealing routines & even songs before. Taken to court & settled. Most modern pop stars are desperate to be seen as artistic, when they are just crap compared to true talented artist. Thats why Beyonce stole this routine without asking..bc she can't come up with shit on her own. As for Glee, if peeps are too stupid to know great past music & need a dumb show like Glee to show it to them, thats not something to be proud of.
For all of those who are here merely outta curiosity for Beyonce's so called plagiarism.....what your looking for starts at 3:51 lol....just to save you time. Personally, I think it's amazing she looked to this classic for inspiration. She probably should've looked into the copyrights stuff tho....cuz that scene was DEF duplicated.
@Raenicz2012 She is only saying inspiration now. She obviously stole it thinking she was so famous & big nobody would care about a choreographer from another country. BUT people do care, and now its biting her on the ass & of course she is now saying how much she admired & was inspired by it. She has done it before. She is like Lady Gaga desperate to be consider a True artist they have to steal from others that are truly unique.
Beyonde, LadyGaga = Desperate Thieves, not true artist.
this is so gorgeous! the variance in repetition is beautiful. the way the dancers control the switch between an impacted strength quality into something soft and gestural is so delightful. the color scheme and the way the frames are shot. this is a great piece of modern dance. <3
this gets alittle boring after awhile...LOL

People just see the art for the wisers and into academics discutions. Art was made for everybody, not to be a retriction that few choose people can enjoy it.
rodrigotragedie 3 months ago

She took the woman's choregraphy and made it her own hoping that no one notice that it belong to someone else..bottom line.

well I am actually glad Beyonce used this cause this was have just remained in the archives catching dust ... yes Bey should have "citied?" but i dont know how one suppose to go about citing the source of inspiration on a music video :S ..doubt it would be like a term paper ..anyways this was weird and now a very weird 30 years old movement has become iconic through someone else which I think is the reason why everyone is so upset cause god knows i can only watch this for 1 min or so
anike118 4 months ago
@anike118 Please tell these people! Beyonce's peeps are always looking for the best in choreography, and if they can be inspired by someone (in another country) who is doing something TOTALLY DIFFERENT than anyone else in the US, then so be it! Her choreographers are introducing other forms of movement to the masses through Beyonce...because she IS "pop culture". If they didn't, America wouldn't even be exposed to this type of dance unless they are dancers themselves.
parrisab1 4 months ago

ChrisBee0290 4 months ago
@ChrisBee0290 Why don't they call people they want to be inspired of before? because im 'bout to tell you one thing it's Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker herself who screamed "THIEF" first! so... hope you understand what i mean...
mychoo12 4 months ago
@mychoo12 It was actually bloggers who did it. Her statement came a day or two later. True, contacting her would've saved a lot of drama. But honestly, that probably didn't go through their heads. They more than likely thought that if they cited their references, that'd be more than enough. An honest mistake, in my opinion. I understand your point though.
ChrisBee0290 4 months ago
@ChrisBee0290 sorry but they are in this industry since years and years... i think they don't want to pay anything to people they steal ideas!! thats why they call it "inspiration"!! i dnt find another explanation!!! weird weird weird she is or they are...
Anne Teresa should continue until they go to trial if that can make them stop!!!

If it wasnt for Beyonce, I would neve see this video or never heard of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. So all Anne should do was to thank Beyonce
BiancaJ808 4 months ago 16
@BiancaJ808 Thats your fault for being ignorant thinking modern pop stars are Artist when their crap won't last. Anne Teresa is highly respected in the Art world. Beyonce is highly respected in...clubs . All Beyonce had to do was aks permission, or acknowledge the artist. But she did not. She stole it & tried to pass it of as her own for $ & to be seen as talented to her ignorant fans. Only now is she saying, was "inspiration". She has been caught & settled before- THIEF.
spaniardmale77 4 months ago

IamJRandB 4 months ago
@BiancaJ808 YOU haven't heard of her but Anne teresa is a very well-known and respected artist in her field. Her choreographies are pieces of art and a lot of work goes into them. What Beyoncé did is plagiarism and in other words that is pure THEFT! So no, Anne Teresa should NOT thank her thief. Would you thank the mugger who stole your wallet?
Magss115 4 months ago
@BiancaJ808 i understand that beyonce gets inspiriation elsewhere. but be honest, as much i like beyonce, she coppied the dance from her.
ShakeItAndTakeIt 4 months ago
@BiancaJ808 I don't think Anne cares about the fame. Can you imagine someone saying displaying a piece of art at their exhibit that they didn't paint? They didn't say they painted it...but they didn't say they didn't. And now someone thinks this artist is so brilliant...from someone else's work. It's just not cool. Like that person in high school who copied your work and got an A but you got an F for cheating. Not fair.
princesstootsweet3 4 months ago
@BiancaJ808 ...uhm this is super famous -especially in europe. I saw it when I was like 9 years old. And I think Anne Teresa should thank Beyonce when Beyonce writes her that check.......don't worry, I'll wait. LoL
LjubaTv 4 months ago
@BiancaJ808 Anne didn't bring this up, she didn't even know about it at first, and when asked about it she even said she wasn't mad. But we shouldn't thank Beyonce for showing us Keersmaeker, because she didn't, we should be thanking all of those who claimed that Beyonce copied her. If it wasn't for these videos would you have ever known where Beyonce's "inspiration" came from? No, so quit acting like she's giving her recognition.

@sssamborambo your a liar. @EmpressEricka I don't really remember everything I said, but I'm going to assume you're responding to the highest rated comment, in which I never said she wasn't taking legal action. However, I can't find one source that says she is, only that it's a possibility. And I didn't assume that no one knows who she is, I was arguing that no one was introduced to her through Beyonce but through people posting videos like these.
sssamborambo 3 months ago
@BiancaJ808 Well she already is an acclaimed choreographer, she didn't really need the exposure. But the Beyonce thing got her some more less dance oriented and younger fans I suppose.

@xllotte Try coming up with something original on your own. Something that u loved, struggled with, and then was inspired into creating.
ValyHxM 4 months ago
@ValyHxM Wow you obviously know nothing about Beyonce. She has a true passion for her art and she works harder than any mainstream artist out there. Yeah what she did sucks but the fact that she actually dug this deep to find "Inspiration" says a lot about her appreciation for music and dance. And how can you say she has no talent and then say she can sing? And she is a great dancer and writer.

But it's a shame that she didn't bought the rights for this video because she made a very great job with "countdown"...
Blyss974 4 months ago
I believe this choreography is definitely what Beyonce copied however to say that she isn't talented because of that is just stupid She's a great singer and you have to look at it as she has other people telling her it's ok For all we know she was told that by her management team that they had permission to do this and is just now finding out that she was lied to As for Lady Gaga she is a talented singer however yes her clothes and dances are copies but not all of us can be original all the time
seawater86 4 months ago
@seawater86 Lady Gaga does not just steal personality. She practically steals songs and video ideas from Madonna, Ace of Base, Abba. She has practically ripped off Madonna songs and videos. Even her name is ripped of- "Lady gaga" she got from a Queen song. Only modern dumbasses that dont know about music think she is original/talented. True artist are original most of the time. She steals most of the time. And Beyonce has been caught stealing before & sued & settled multiple times.
spaniardmale77 4 months ago
Thumbs up if Beyonce got caught stealing again and now saying "inspiration".
Just like Lady Gaga and all her "inspirations"
Fucking no talent thieves desperate to be true artist.
spaniardmale77 4 months ago 31
@spaniardmale77 i can't give you a thumbs ups because i feel like artist like beyonce, gaga and shows like glee expose are youth to true art. If it wasn't for artist like them they would think dances like the cat daddy are true choreography but its not. And that is inspiring alone.
EccentricSoulfly1 4 months ago
@EccentricSoulfly1 They are not exposed to true art. Lady Gaga steals everything but the kitchen sink from true artist. She steals videos, songs, even album art from Madonna, Abba, Ace of Base & others. Even her name is not original & got from queen song "radio Gaga". These thieves then represent themselves as "artistic geniuses" & unique to their ignorant fans(who dont know any music older than 5 years) &have been dumb down by media into thinking the garbage they like is good or original.
spaniardmale77 4 months ago
@EccentricSoulfly1 As for Beyonce, she has been caught stealing routines & even songs before. Taken to court & settled. Most modern pop stars are desperate to be seen as artistic, when they are just crap compared to true talented artist. Thats why Beyonce stole this routine without asking..bc she can't come up with shit on her own. As for Glee, if peeps are too stupid to know great past music & need a dumb show like Glee to show it to them, thats not something to be proud of.

Personally, I think it's amazing she looked to this classic for inspiration. She probably should've looked into the copyrights stuff tho....cuz that scene was DEF duplicated.
Raenicz2012 4 months ago
