his craftsmanship is brilliantly matched to the musics form. that is GENIUS in itself. if one doesnt like the confines of earlier century music, then find a choreographer who can craft a late 20th or early 21st music score. marks dances transcend the sublime. for a dancer who cannot dance or critique others work smacks of jealousy and cynicism. theres enough jaded nay-sayers of this art form. if you dont like his work, as i do not like martha grahams but still appreciate it, then dont watch it.

Not condescending - just the truth. There is a real difference between lovely and brilliant. To call Mark Morris brilliant is to be foolish and ridiculous.  Don't let the rave reviews from the mass media fool you. Stop, look and really listen, and see if if he invites you into another aspect of the music or the space. Most likely not. He merely steps on the beat of the drum - in the most lovely way - but little more. He iIS however clever enough to hire some very brilliant dancers.

@mjahoda1 Just curious who you would consider brilliant. I've heard this critique of Morris's work before, and I think works such as Gloria and his solo Jealousy (to Handel's piece of the same name) are brilliant. His use of structure & the timing chosen in much of Gloria add to rather than mimic the music, though it's been a few years since I've seen it live. Taylor's Esplanade has its' Mickey Mouse moments but certainly transcends ...

Mark Morris a master? Brilliant? Really? Once again he shows nothing more than jumping up and down "on the beat" and pure childishness. If you think this is brilliant - get out of your cave and start looking at other work.
